Dolores Irene Vaughn
Dolores Irene Vaughn of Renton died Oct. 27, 2001, one day before her 83rd birthday.
Born Oct. 28, 1918, in Portland, Ore., she lived in Renton since 1946. Mrs. Vaughn graduated from Bothell High School in 1946.
She was a retail grocery clerk for 20 years, and worked at a few different stores. She retired in 1988 from Dan's Quick Stop in Renton.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing and crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Vaughn's husband, William T. Vaughn, died in 1967. She is survived by her son, Robert B. Vaughn of Renton; her daughter, Jeri A. Vaughn of Los Angeles, Calif.; her brother, Earl Radtke of Anchorage, Alaska; her sisters, Margaret Thompson of Everett and Helen McDougal of Hoquiam; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.
Arrangements are by Greenwood Funeral Home.
Frank N. Bill
Frank N. Bill of Tukwila died in his home Oct. 25, 2001. He was 81.
Born April 14, 1920, in Seattle, Mr. Bill lived his entire life in the South County area.
He was a contractor for Underground Utilities. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Denise Bill, and his daughter, Linda Bill. He is survived by his sons, James Bill of Kent and Steven Bill of Renton; his brother, George Bill of Tukwila; and six grandchildren.
At Mr. Bill's request, there will be no public services.

Paul C. Carey
Longtime Renton resident Paul C. Carey of Portland, Ore., died of Parkinson's disease and pneumonia on Oct. 24, 2001, in Portland. He was 83.
Born Jan. 15, 1918, in Maple Valley, Mr. Carey attended St. Anthony School in Renton. He married
Kathryn Terry on Nov. 11, 1945.
He served in the Army during World War II and after 32 years of service, he retired as a major in the Army Reserve.
He was stationed at Fort Lewis. Mr. Carey lived most of his life in Renton, until moving away in 1965.
Mr. Carey was co-owner of Market Basket Inc., a grocery store chain that had stores in Renton, Seattle, Bellevue, and Yakima.
He also worked as a real estate broker. He was a member of St. John Fischer Catholic Church in Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Carey in 1997. Mr. Carey is survived by his son, Patrick Carey of Spokane; daughters Nikki Carey-Erickson of Laguna Woods, Calif., and Portland, Ore., and Sharon Klontz of Federal Way; brothers William Carey of Kent and Leo Carey of Georgia; and sister Cecelia Major of Renton.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Fischer Catholic Church in Portland, Ore.
A military interment will be held at noon Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Park cemetery in Renton.

Rex R. Gilman
Rex Richard Gilman of Auburn died Oct. 28, 2001, in Auburn. He was 73.
Born June 19, 1928, in Fairmont, Minn., Mr. Gilman served 12 years in the Army and Navy. He lived in Auburn for 24 years.
Mr. Gilman was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and was a volunteer and fund-raiser for Law Enforcement Youth Corp.
He worked for the railroad police at Burlington Northern Railroad.
He enjoyed trains, drawing, painting, stamp collecting and walking his dog.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Gilman of Auburn; son Gary Gilman of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter Donna Haynes of Tacoma; stepsons Gregory Graves of Seattle and Jack Graves of Auburn; stepdaughters Kathleen Shumaier, Michelle Pegram, Linda Graves and Lona Graves, all of Auburn; sister Florence Ramsey of Raymond; 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Price -Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.
Rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Price-Helton Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Auburn.
Robert J. Hain
Robert J. Hain of Auburn died Oct. 26, 2001, north of Wentworth, S.D., when the pickup he was driving collided with a semitrailer. He was 80.
Born Oct. 17, 1921, in Artesian, S.D., Mr. Hain served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and joined the Air Force, retiring in 1964. Mr. Hain married
Mary McCallum in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Oct. 12, 1982. He worked as a police officer at the Veterans Hospital in Washington.
Mr. Hain was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, Resurgan Masonic Lodge, No. 31 in Mitchell, S.D., Disabled American Veterans, and Order of Eagles Lodge, No. 2298 in Auburn.
Mr. Hain was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Carol McOnie-Dunbar in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hain of Auburn; son Stanley Hain of West Seattle; daughter Linda Borum of Tennessee; step-daughters Mary McOnie of Seattle and Elizabeth McOnie-Dempsey of Federal Way; sisters Iva Claire Shoemaker of Des Moines and Phyllis Kunist of Pico Revera, Calif.; and three grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount. Pleasant cemetery in Artesian, S.D. Arrangements are by Weiland Funeral Chapel in Madison, S.D.
Ralph S. Carter
Ralph Stanley Carter of Renton died Oct. 28, 2001 in Renton. He was 81.
Born Feb. 24, 1920, in Louisville, Ky., Mr. Carter married
Ann Usibelli on April 30, 1950, in Fairbanks, Alaska. He lived in Renton for 50 years.
Mr. Carter enjoyed cooking, fishing, traveling and going to horse races. He was a self -employed painter.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Carter of Renton; son Michael Maurer of Renton; daughter Michelle Ward of Juneau, Alaska; brother Wilton Whitehouse of Helendale, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.

Ludwig Richter
Ludwig Richter of Kent died Oct. 26, 2001, in Kent. He was 73. Born Oct. 27, 1927, in Esmond, N.D., Mr. Richter married
Lorraine Wack on Oct. 3, 1949, in Selz, N.D. He lived in South County for 46 years.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Kent and the Kent Eagles. Richter was a carpenter and worked 18 years at The Boeing Co., retiring in 1972.
He played in the West Coasters Band and enjoyed playing guitar, hunting, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Richter is survived by his wife, Lorraine Richter of Kent; sons Kenneth Richter and Steve Richter, both of Kent, Clem Richter of Federal Way and Shane Richter of Buckley; daughter Elaine Lange of Kent; brothers Wendelin Richter of Renton, and Leo Richter and Ignatuis Richter, both of Shelton; sisters Katherine Weigel of Tacoma, Theresia Ludwig of Fargo, N.D., Marge Gagneir of Great Falls, Minn., Carol Faul of Chicago, Ill., Eva Hager of Federal Way and Cecilia Weinmann of Harvey, N.D.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at Price-Helton Funeral Chapel in Auburn.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Kent, followed by burial at Gethesame Catholic cemetery in Federal Way.

James K. Jobe
Longtime Kent resident James Kenneth Jobe of Issaquah died Oct. 29, 2001, in Lakewood. He was 79.
Born Aug. 8, 1922, in Boonshill, Tenn., Mr. Jobe lived in Kent for 20 years. He was a Naval officer, and served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring as a commander.
He taught at the Naval Academy in Annapolis and at Duke University. He also was a high school teacher. Mr. Jobe was an avid golfer, a Mariners fan and enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Jobe is survived by his wife, Marie Louise Jobe of Issaquah; son Christopher Jobe of Farmington, Minn.; daughters Glenda Reed of Maple Valley, Heather Jones of Kenmore and Danielle Robertson of Snohomish; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Norman B. Boyd
Norman Bruce Boyd of Kent died Oct. 25, 2001, in Renton. He was 58.
Born Feb. 12, 1943, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Mr. Boyd married
Judy Neupert on Oct. 15, 1966, in Seattle. He served in the Army and lived in Kent for 15 years.
Mr. Boyd was a dental lab technician at Harrison Dental Labs for 35 years. He enjoyed boating, fishing and being outdoors.
Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Gwladys Boyd. He is survived by his wife, Judy Boyd of Kent; daughters Kelly Portmann of Auburn and Erin Boyd of Seattle; brother Ken Boyd of Kirkland; and two grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 10 at Kent Covenant Church.
Memorials can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Children's Hospital in Seattle, or to the American Cancer Society.

Mildred Mable Hansen
Mildred Mable Hansen of Auburn died Oct. 27, 2001, in Auburn. She was 82.
Born May 11, 1919, in Milltown, Wisc., she married
Lawrence A. Hansen in 1939 in Luck, Wisc. She had lived in the South County area for 54 years.
Mrs. Hansen retired in 1982 as a data clerk at The Boeing Co. She was a member of the Auburn Eagles and enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and the Seattle Mariners.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hansen, in 1971. She is survived by her son, Chris Hansen of Auburn; daughters Betty Hansen of Sumner and Marilyn Russo of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; brothers Joe Hutton, in Wisconsin, and Laurence Hutton of Pacific; sisters Elsie Skow, Dorothy Lauritsen and Loretta Larsen, all of Wisconsin, Elizabeth Lawson of Idaho, Donna Mae Hutton of Auburn, and Louise Payne of Bonney Lake; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her companion, Andrew Oquist.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Messiah Lutheran Church in Auburn. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.
