Ralph E. Messick

Ralph E. Messick of Federal Way died Oct. 31, 2001, at Auburn Regional Medical Center. He was 68.

Born May 20, 1933, in Vinson, Okla., Mr. Messick moved to the South County area 30 years ago.

He worked as a tow truck driver for Gene's Towing.

Mr. Messick was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth ``Betty'' Messick, on Jan. 22, 2000. He is survived by his sons, Ralph E. Messick Jr. of Dumas, Texas, Dave Messick and Terry Wolfe, both of Auburn, Ray Wolfe and Ted Sumners, both of Austin, Texas, and Chris Sumners of Mesa, Ariz.; daughters Barbara Woodall of Federal Way, Mary Helen Pettigrew of Brownfield, Texas, and Sue Carr of Missouri; brothers, Guy Messick of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and T. J. Messick; sisters Wanda Chameless of Oklahoma, Betty Jourgian of Duncan, Okla., Rose Perkins of Vernon, Texas, Cloe Phillips of Hanford, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn.

Delores H. Williams

Delores Helen Williams of Auburn died Nov. 1, 2001, in Auburn. She was 77.

Born Jan. 22, 1924, in Hayfield, Minn., she lived in Auburn for 23 years.

She was a self-employed seamstress and enjoyed reading.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Victor J. Dahle; and sister, Marie Wellman. She is survived by her son, Michael Ray Williams of Auburn; daughters Linda Westendorf of Auburn and Sue Williams of Kent; brother Curt Dahle of Kent; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Monday at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Auburn, followed by burial at Hillcrest cemetery in Kent.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mary B. Delaurenti

Former longtime Renton resident Mary Beth Delaurenti of Ellensburg died Oct. 28, 2001, at Royal Vista Care Center in Ellensburg. She was 82.

Born Feb. 8, 1919, in Yakima, she married Pete B. Delaurenti on Sept. 25, 1937, and lived in Renton for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Delaurenti worked as a nurse's aid at Renton Convalescent Center for many years. She enjoyed traveling, horseback riding and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband. Mrs. Delaurenti is survived by her sons, Mike Delaurenti of Issaquah and Peter Delaurenti of Seattle; daughter Ginger Jensen of Ellensburg; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held.

Arrangements are under the direction of Affordable Funeral Care of Ellensburg.

Jesse L. `Bus' Fitts

Jesse L. ``Bus'' Fitts of Kent died Oct. 31, 2001, at Valley Medical Center in Renton. He was 94.

Born April 29, 1907, in Ridgefield, Mr. Fitts lived in the South County area for 54 years, 40 of those at Lake Meridian.

He spent his early years working in the woods and on the water around Grays Harbor and later was a welder at the Bremerton shipyards during the war. He was a 50-year member of the Lake Meridian Shore Club and enjoyed dancing, bowling and the Mariners.

Mr. Fitts was preceded in death by his wife, Ebba Fitts, in 1992, and a grandson in 1970. He is survived by his daughter, Elaine Johnson of Kent; brother Emmett Fitts of Newport, Ore.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

No service will be held.

Arrangements are by Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent.

Delores Helen Williams of Auburn died Nov. 1, 2001, in Auburn. She was 77.

Grace Margaret McTighe

Former Renton resident Grace Margaret McTighe of Issaquah died Nov. 3, 2001, in Bellevue. She was 90.

Born Sept. 19, 1911, in Aberdeen, S.D., she lived in Renton for 56 years.

A homemaker, she enjoyed embroidery, cooking and music.

Mrs. McTighe was preceded in death by her husband, Michael McTighe in 1989; and daughter Patricia Kravljanac in 1993. She is survived by her sons, Darwin McTighe of San Mateo, Calif., James McTighe of Fall City and John McTighe of Ravensdale; daughters Virginia McElroy of Renton and Janice Berry of Ravensdale; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton.

June B. Hottenstein

June B. Hottenstein of Maple Valley died of pneumonia Nov. 1, 2001, at Auburn Regional Medical Center. She was 80.

Mrs. Hottenstein was born June 5, 1921, in Terry, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.T. Hottenstein in 1975. She is survived by her son, Dennis Hottenstein of Auburn; daughter Debbie Bir of Maple Valley; brothers Vernon Abrahamson of Bremerton, Bernard Abrahamson of Anaheim, Calif., and Earl Abrahamson of Springfield, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton. Burial will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.

Memorials may be made to M.S. Society, 192 Nickerson St., Seattle, WA 98109.

James R. Collins

James R. Collins of Kent died Nov. 3, 2001, at Valley Medical Center in Renton. He was 74.

Born May 1, 1927, in Bridgeport, Pa., he served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II and lived in the South County area for 22 years.

Mr. Collins retired in 1991, after working as an industrial electrician at Kaiser Steel for 13 years and at The Boeing Co. in Auburn for 11 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 235. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

Mr. Collins is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Collins of Kent; sons James Collins of Oceanside, Calif., Joseph Collins of Upland, Calif., John Collins of Mentone, Calif., William Collins of Kent and Gerald Collins of Ontario, Calif.; daughters Margaret Cobb of Redlands, Calif., and Patricia Ray of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; brother Francis Collins of King of Prussia, Pa.; and 11 grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in Renton. Burial will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

Arrangements are by Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent.

Ellen E. Hoyt

Ellen E. Hoyt of Auburn died Nov. 4, 2001, in Auburn. She was 79.

Born Feb. 2, 1922, in Yelm, she married Robert Hoyt Sr., Oct. 1, 1942, in Milton and lived in Auburn for 54 years.

A homemaker, she enjoyed knitting. Mrs. Hoyt was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Hoyt.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Hoyt Sr., of Auburn; sons Robert Hoyt Jr., of Lake Tapps and Dan Hoyt of Orting; daughter Cathy Custer of Edgewood; sisters Maxine Hipp of Renton, Zeta Longstreth and Lois Blauvelt, both of Tacoma; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 17 at Auburn Senior Center. Inurnment will be at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.

Lucille E. Cook

Former Kent resident Lucille E. Cook of Hibbing, Minn., died Nov. 5, 2001, in Hibbing, Minn. She was 75.

Born April 22, 1926, in Tenny, Minn., she married Chester A. Cook Oct. 8, 1944, in Rio Grande, Calif., and lived in Kent for nine years.

A homemaker, she was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, Minn., the Tourist Center Senior Citizens in Hibbing and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8510 Ladies Auxiliary in Hibbing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Cook in 1988; sons Sidney Cook in 1996 and Quentin Cook in 2001; and three grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Rodney Cook of Princeton, Minn., Vilroy Cook of Elk River, Minn., Mitchell Cook of Anoka, Minn., Douglas Cook of Milaca, Minn., Terry Cook of Monticello, Minn., and Timothy Cook of Kent; daughters Bonita Hills of Blaine, Minn., Beverly Cook of Hibbing, Minn., and Betty Pittman of Iron, Minn.; brother Orville Keller of Ham Lake, Minn.; sister Rose Braun of Breckenridge, Minn.; 26 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Range Funeral Home in Hibbing, Minn., and one hour before the service.

A funeral will be held at 11:30 p.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. Burial will following at Maple Hill cemetery in Hibbing.

Barbara Fay Grimes

Barbara Fay Grimes of Renton died Nov. 4, 2001, in Renton. She was 78.

Born Dec. 29, 1922, in Renton, she lived in Renton for 76 years.

Mrs. Grimes was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Renton. She was a volunteer with the Renton Historical Society and enjoyed traveling in the United States and Canada.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ora Grimes in 1991. She is survived by her sons, Bill Grimes of Kelso, Edgar Grimes of Renton and Joseph Grimes of North Bend; brothers Homer Venishnick of Renton and Joseph Venishnick of Post Falls, Idaho; sister Mae Kokko of Renton; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at Calvary Baptist Church in Renton.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are by American Memorial Funeral Directors in Renton.
