Ruth G. Kennedy

Ruth G. Kennedy of Renton died Nov. 5, 2001, at The Regency At Renton. She was 87.

Born Nov. 19, 1913, in Seattle, she lived in SeaTac for 31 years and Renton for the past few years.

Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by her husband, George Kennedy. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy N. Heistuman of Renton; sister Peggy Austin of Vancouver, British Columbia.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent.

Margaret Cooley

Margaret Cooley of Buckley died Nov. 5., 2001, in Enumclaw. She was 94.

Born Sept. 11, 1907, in Loma, N.D., she lived in the Federal Way area for 50 years.

Mrs. Cooley worked as a kindergarten teacher at a private preschool in the Federal Way area, and enjoyed playing cards, fishing and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Cooley. She is survived by her sons, Roy Garrett of Enumclaw and Charles Patterson of Mount Vernon, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

No formal service is being held. Arrangements are by Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn.

Burial will be at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.

Debby L. Shelley

Debby Lyn Shelley of Covington died of cancer Nov. 3, 2001, in Covington. She was 49.

Born Sept. 19, 1952, in Renton, Mrs. Shelley spent her life in South King County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Shelley. She is survived by her sons, Jason Webster of Covington, Jeremy Webster of Auburn, Jesse Shelley and Justin Shelley of Covington; daughter, Annette Van Horn of Rainier; brother Ron Anderson of Kent; sister Sandy Belcher of Kent; and six grandchildren.

No formal service is being held. Arrangements are by Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent.

Connie Sue Curtis

Former Renton resident Connie Sue Curtis of Mount Vernon died Nov. 3, 2001, in Renton. She was 58.

Born Dec. 24, 1942, in Hastings, Neb., she lived in Renton for 23 years before moving to Mount Vernon.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Renton Assembly of God Church and was a Boy Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed knitting, stock car races, driving diesel trucks and playing bingo.

She is survived by her sons, Alan Curtis of Denver, Vernon G. Curtis Jr. of Pueblo, Colo., and Benjamin Curtis of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters Michelle Curtis of Mount Vernon and Becky Carter of Kent; sisters Loette Fischer of Commerce, Ga., and Marilla Kissell of Tucson, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren.

At her request, no services will be held. Inurnment will be in Hastings, Neb.

Arrangements are by Faull-Stokes Mortuary in Renton.

Frances Woodson

Frances Woodson of Pacific died Nov. 2, 2001, in Auburn. She was 95.

She was born April 15, 1906, in St. Paul, Minn. A homemaker, she lived in the South County area for 30 years.

She is survived by her son, William Koenig of Pacific; brother Phil Sherting of Seattle; and sisters Sue Hansen of Tacoma and Edna Crawford of Seattle.

At her request, no services will be held.

Arrangements are by Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.

Evelyn Virginia O'Donin

Evelyn Virginia O'Donin of Renton died Nov. 4, 2001, in Renton. She was 79.

Born Dec. 31, 1921, in Seattle, she graduated from Foster High School in Tukwila in 1939 and had lived in the Renton area since 1942.

Mrs. O'Donin retired in 1984 after four years of production work at Frederick & Nelson stores and 20 years employment at Container Corporation of America. She enjoyed reading, traveling, flower gardening, baking and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney O'Donin, in June 1999. She is survived by her son, Michael O'Donin of Renton; daughters Maureen Napier and Elaine Ashurst, both of Renton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.

Memorials may be made to Children's Hospital and Medical Center.

Jesse Odneal Spencer

Jesse Odneal Spencer of Renton died Nov. 6, 2001, in Renton. He was 88.

Born Nov. 25, 1912, in Chetopa, Kan., he retired from the Army Reserves and moved to Renton in 1963 from Pomona, Calif.

Mr. Spencer was the owner and operator of a body and fender shop. He also worked for five years at The Boeing Co. and for a short time at Good Chevrolet. He enjoyed auto body and fender work since the age of 22 and also enjoyed fishing and boating.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Evelyn Spencer of Renton; son Kenneth Boles of Renton; daughters Brenda C. Spencer of Seattle and Sharon Spencer of Pomona, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton.

Barbara L. Garrott

Former Auburn resident Barbara L. Garrott of Sumner died Nov. 2, 2001, in Sumner. She was 60.

Born March 26, 1941, in Seattle, she married John Garrott Jan. 9, 1967, in Anchorage, Alaska, and lived in Auburn for 50 years.

A homemaker, Mrs. Garrott was a member of Take Off Pounds Sensibly, Inc., and a former leader of Keep Off Pounds Sensibly. She enjoyed taking road trips around the country, riding steam engines and spelunking.

She is survived by her husband, John Garrott Sr., of Sumner; sons John Garrott Jr., of Algona and James Garrott of Sumner; daughters Betsy Wellentin of Algona and Barbara Garrott of Lacey; mother Betsy Ratliff of Auburn, brother Russell Haag of Renton; sister Pat Hart of Buckley; and six grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley. A memorial gathering will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Pacific Community Center in Pacific.

Arrangements are by Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.

George Henry Strnad

George Henry Strnad of Kent died Nov. 1, 2001, at Auburn Regional Hospital. He was 84.

Born May 1, 1917, in Renton, he served in the Army Air Cops during World War II in Rhineland Central Europe and was a lifelong resident of the South County area.

Mr. Strnad retired in 1975, after 30 years as a truck driver, from The Boeing Co. and Black River Quarry. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and an Overseas Bar. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

He is survived by his son, Mark A. Sternard of Auburn; daughter Luann M. Fenton of Des Moines; sister Mary Strnad of Issaquah; and two grandchildren.

A graveside inurnment, with military honors, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Memorials may be made to Kent Church of Christ.

Arrangements are by Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel in Kent.

Edith E. Pringle

Edith E. Pringle of Renton died Nov. 5, 2001, in Renton. She was 81.

Born Nov. 24, 1919, in Renton, she graduated from Renton High School as an honor student and lived in the South County area for 76 years.

She retired in 1986, as a department manager, from the Seattle Times. She joined the FBI in 1941. She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Renton, served as a secretary of the Altar Society for four years and was a board member of the Associated Women of Washington Athletic Club.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Pringle in 1987. She is survived by her sister, Ethel Pringle of Renton.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Faull-Stokes Mortuary in Renton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Church in Renton. Burial will be at Holyrood cemetery in Shoreline.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Church or Human Life.

Marjorie Vivian Nelson Selley

Marjorie Vivian Nelson Selley died Nov. 6, 2001, at her home in Des Moines. She was 80.

Born March 12, 1921, in Auburn, she was a descendant of the Nelson family that settled in the Thomas area in the early 1900s. She was a lifetime resident of the South County area.

She is survived by her son, Richard J. Cosgrove of Des Moines; daughters Colleen Cosgrove of Salt Lake City and Marlene Westfall of Port Orchard; sisters Verone Heinson of Federal Way and Jane Chitwood of Kirkland; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel in Kent. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Memorials may be made to Hospice, 425 Pontius Ave. N. No. 300, Seattle, WA 98109.

Dora E. Park-Exley

Former Renton resident Dora E. Park-Exley of Loveland, Colo., died Nov. 3, 2001, in Loveland, Colo. She was 89.

Born Dec. 21, 1911, in Laurel, Mont., she was married to Arnold Park Dec. 21, 1930, in Butte, Mont., until his death in 1961. She married Reg Exley in 1979 in Colorado. She lived in the Renton Highlands for more than 20 years before moving back to Colorado.

She worked for Alaska Communication System in Seward, Alaska, during World War II. She enjoyed working with flowers and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reg Exley in 1980. She is survived by her son, Ray Park of Loveland, Colo.; daughter June Matthews of Warrenton, Ore.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton.
