Bernice E. Lowe

Bernice Edna Lowe of Auburn died Nov. 19, 2001, in Auburn. She was 82.

Born May 26, 1919, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, she moved with her family to Auburn in 1927. She married James Lowe in 1988.

Mrs. Lowe worked for the J.C. Penney Co. and The Boeing Co., retiring in 1984. She belonged to the White River Presbyterian Church in Auburn.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Liljestrom. She is survived by her husband, James Lowe of Auburn; son, Michael Liljestrom of Auburn; daughter, Patricia Pettygrove of Auburn; brother, Stanley Giffin of Marysville; sister, Gene Sahnow of Bellevue; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Friday at Price Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Memorials may be sent to Memorial Fund, White River Presbyterian Church, 526 12th St. S.E., Auburn, WA 98002.

Roy D. Monnie

Roy David Monnie died Nov. 16, 2001, at his home in Covington. He was 77.

Born March 13, 1924, in Kennydale, he graduated from Meridian High School and received a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina. He served in the Navy during World War II, receiving the Korean Service Medal, the China Service Medal, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He was a lifetime resident of the South County area.

Mr. Monnie was a self-employed printer. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and served as a cubmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a freelance writer and a sports fan and enjoyed playing golfing and dancing.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred G. Monnie of Tooele, Utah; sons, Michael D. Monnie and Bruce W. Monnie, both of Portland, Ore., Robert B. Monnie of McBee, S.C., and Richard W. Monnie of Gresham, Ore.; sister, Priscilla Witters of Renton; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Kent followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial with military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 2145 S.W. Naito Parkway, Portland, OR 97201.

Arrangements are by Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel in Kent.

Irene E. Myatt

Irene E. Myatt of Auburn died Nov. 14, 2001, in Auburn. She was 85.

Born Sept. 27, 1916, in Virginia, Minn., she lived in Auburn for 50 years and served as a captain in the Army Nurses Corps during World War II.

Mrs. Myatt worked as a nurse at Auburn General Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Myatt of Auburn.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Price Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Axel Lindgren

Axel Lindgren of Renton died Nov. 15, 2001, in Renton. He was 84.

Born Oct. 10, 1917, in Warba, Minn., he lived in South County for 33 years. He married Agnes Oliver in 1945.

He worked for Ben Franklin Store in Kent before owning and operating his own gift shop. He retired in 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes Lindgren of Renton; daughter, Judi Alldridge of Puyallup; brother, Oscar Lindgren of Keewatin, Minn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel in Kent.

Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Zella `Larrie' A. Alexander

Zella ``Larrie'' Alarie Alexander of Bryn Mawr died Nov. 12, 2001, in Bryn Mawr. She was 75.

Born Dec. 12, 1925, in Hutchinson, Kan., she lived in Kent and Bryn Mawr for 17 years. She married Paul Alexander in 1942 in Ogden, Utah.

She worked as a sales consultant in retail stores, belonged to Renton First United Methodist Church and the Renton Lady Lions Club and enjoyed flower gardening and camping.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Alexander of Bryn Mawr; daughters, Marsha Rodrigues and Vicki Ghan, both of Anchorage, Ala., and Deanna Kreeck of Kenmore; brothers, Albert Trent of Hutchinson, Kan., and Arvin Trent of Salina, Kan.; sisters, Annis Steward of Lawrence, Kan., and Alena Mettlen of Seattle; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Renton First United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Renton First United Methodist Church or the Northwest Kidney Center Foundation.

Arrangements are by Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.

Joseph P. Hynes

Joseph P. Hynes of Renton died Nov. 18, 2001, in Seattle. He was 71.

Born Oct. 22, 1930, in Davenport, Iowa, Mr. Hynes lived in Renton for 20 years. He served as a Marine in the Korean War.

He owned and operated a tile setter business.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Dickson. He is survived by his son, Greg Hynes of Renton; daughters, Michelle DeWitt of Newcastle, Jody Venable of Seattle, Bernadette Rice of Renton, and Debbie DeLeon of Bellevue; brother, John Hynes of Bettendorf, Iowa; sisters, Mary Beckmann of Grass Valley, Calif., and Margaret Koehler and Bette Stevenson, both of Bellevue.

No service will be held.

Memorials may be made to the Renton West Veterinary Clinic.

Arrangements are by Columbia Funeral Home in Seattle.

Barry D. Thompson

Barry D. Thompson died Nov. 14, 2001, at his home in Maple Valley. He was 65.

Born June 27, 1936, in Tacoma, Mr. Thompson served in the Air Force and lived in the South County area for 60 years.

He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and camping.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Joyce Thompson of Maple Valley; daughter, Tammy Williamson of Lakewood; stepdaughters, Renee Wright of Packwood, Sharleen Colby of Federal Way, Jeanene Armstrong of Marysville and Diane Williams of Seattle; brothers, Keith Thompson and Michael Thompson, both of Renton; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

No service will be held.

Arrangements are by Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent.

Ben A. Dacus

Ben A. Dacus died Nov. 17, 2001, at his home in Enumclaw. He was 68.

Born Sept. 14, 1933, in Van, Ark., Mr. Dacus lived in Enumclaw for 41 years.

He was a Marine and served in Korea and Japan from 1953 to 1961, earning two Purple Hearts.

Mr. Dacus taught history, earth science, social studies and driver's education at Enumclaw High School. He also coached football and track, retiring in 1990. He was the president and founder of the Fraternal Association of Retired Teachers, attended Calvary Presbyterian Church and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Dacus is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Dacus; sons Gaylon Dacus of Gig Harbor and Glenn Dacus of Renton; daughter Beth Onosko of Kent; mother Attie Dacus of Vancouver, Wash.; brother Gaylon Dacus of Vancouver, Wash.; sisters, June Abla and Jean Falls, both of Vancouver, Wash., and Janis Clark of Garden Grove, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. today at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Enumclaw.

Memorials may be sent to Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1725 Porter St., Enumclaw, WA 98022, to help establish a scholarship fund through the Enumclaw retired teachers association. Arrangements are by Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home.

Eunice A. Kelley

Eunice Amelia Kelley of Auburn died Nov. 16, 2001, in Auburn. She was 92.

Born Nov. 16, 1909, in Laurel, Mont., Mrs. Kelley lived in Algona and Auburn for 47 years.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed quiltmaking and gardening.

Mrs. Kelley was preceded in death by her husbands, Otis Hutchins and George Kelley; stepson Otis Hutchins; and stepdaughter Ellen Yetter.

She is survived by her sons Floyd Hutchins of Fountain, Colo., and Earl Hutchins of Omak; daughter Duska Cnossen of Auburn; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Price Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. Inurnment will be at Omak Memorial cemetery in Omak.

Myrtle L. Braaten

Myrtle L. Braaten of Renton died Nov. 17, 2001, in Renton. She was 83.

Born Jan. 2, 1918, in Minn, Minnesota, Mrs. Braaten lived in Renton for 57 years.

She worked as a cashier supervisor in The Boeing Co. cafeteria for 20 years, retiring in 1978.

Mrs. Braaten enjoyed card games, needlework, knitting and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Braaten.

She is survived by her sons, Dale Braaten and Ron Braaten, both of Renton, and Jerry Braaten of Gilbert, Ariz.; brother Melvin Olson of Home; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial in SeaTac.

Burial will be at Washington Memorial Park cemetery in SeaTac.
