Lorraine I. Plischke

Lorraine I. Plischke of Sumner died Nov. 26, 2001, in Auburn. She was 75.

Born Oct. 3, 1926, in Miller, Neb., Mrs. Plischke married Robert Plischke in 1945. She lived in South County for 35 years.

She owned her own day care center, working out of her home for more than 40 years. She also worked at Cools Restaurant, owned by her brother Jerry Cools. She belonged to First Christian Church in Sumner.

She is survived by her husband, Robert ``Bob'' Plischke; sons Bob Plischke Jr., and Randy Plischke; daughters Priscilla Matlack, Pam Gibson, Patti Tidball, Penny Lytle and Paula Susic; brother Jerald Cool; sisters Verda Giff and Roberta Tobias; and 21 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Christian Church in Sumner. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Arrangements are by Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup.

Merold J. Rees

Merold J. Rees of Renton died Nov. 28, 2001, in Renton. He was 81.

Born Feb. 17, 1920, in Willow Twist, Iowa, Mr. Rees lived in Renton since 1952.

He worked at the Boeing Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1983.

He is survived by his daughters, Dianna Huntington of Renton and Linda Sistrunk of Warner Robins, Ga.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held at Hillcrest cemetery in Kent.

Arrangements are by Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.

Douglas G. Adkins

Douglas G. Adkins of Auburn died Nov. 24, 2001, in Auburn. He was 83.

Born in Scott Mills, Ore., Mr. Adkins was a lieutenant in the Air Force and served in Europe during World War II as a bombardier. He was a prisoner of war in Germany from April 13, 1944, to May 13, 1945. He lived in Auburn for 38 years.

He worked for Seattle Door in Kirkland for 24 years, and enjoyed yard work and gold mining.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Adkins of Auburn; son Douglas G. Adkins, Jr., of McKinleyville, Calif.; daughter Sherryl R. Pfaff of Bonney Lake; son Michael D. Adkins of Auburn; daughter Kelly-Glenn Adkins of Auburn; brother Glen Adkins of Cashmere; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 8 at Cashmere cemetery in Cashmere.

Arrangements are by Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.

Harley V. Reed

Harley V. Reed of Des Moines died Nov. 28, 2001, in Auburn. He was 81.

Born Nov. 2, 1920, in Yakima, he served in the Navy for six years during World War II on the USS Lexington and USS Breton. He lived in the South County area for 65 years.

Mr. Reed was a mechanic and owner of Reed's ARCO on East Hill for 21 years, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Reed of Des Moines; sons Rick Reed of Chelan, John Reed of Kent, and David Reed of Olalla; brothers Glen Reed of Othello and Dan Reed of Buckley; and six grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent. Inurnment will follow at 12:30 p.m. today at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Rose Gauthier

Rose Gauthier of Maple Valley died Nov. 21, 2001, in Tacoma. She was 81.

Born Feb. 12, 1920, in Roundup, Mont., she moved to Hiawatha, near Selleck, in 1936 and lived in the South County area for 65 years.

A homemaker, Mrs. Gauthier also had worked at various hotels. She was a self-taught seamstress who enjoyed making clothes for her family. She also enjoyed writing short stories, gardening and canning.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Woodrow Gauthier, in March 2001; brothers Matt Kombol and Frank Kombol; and daughter Gayle M. Mummert. She is survived by her sons, Ken Gauthier and Pat Gauthier, both of Maple Valley; brothers Joe Kombol and Bill Kombol, both of Roundup, Mont.; sisters Mary Tilman of San Francisco and Margaretta Snoj of Seattle; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home.

Helen G. Passler

Helen Gretchen Passler of Maple Valley died Nov. 21, 2001, in Bellevue. She was 91.

Born July 6, 1910, in Spokane, she married Max Passler on May 25, 1933, in Spokane. She lived in Maple Valley for 42 years.

A homemaker, Mrs. Passler worked during World War II for the Boeing Co. and had worked at the Mode O'Day store in Renton. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, her pets and Mariners baseball.

Mrs. Passler was preceded in death by her husband, Max Passler; and son William Passler. She is survived by her sons, Fred Passler of Auburn and Reid Passler of Maple Valley; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Neighborhood Chapel Church of God in Auburn.

Memorials may be made to the National Cancer Foundation or Group Health Hospice at Kelsey Creek.

Arrangements are by Bleitz of Bellevue.

Walter H. Jacobsen

Walter Harry Jacobsen of Auburn died Nov. 28, 2001, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. He was 72.

Born Aug. 23, 1929, in Auburn, he graduated from Meridian High School in Kent and was a lifetime resident of the South County area.

Mr. Jacobsen retired in 1999 as the owner and operator of Mountain View Tree Forest. He worked as a carpenter for Canyon Homes in Kent from 1955 to 1966, and also had a gas station on East Hill. From 1970 to 1996, he was a carpentry instructor at Green River College. He was a member of the Puget Sound Christmas Tree Association, Zion Lutheran Church in Kent; Auburn Elks, Meridian Grange; and the Auburn Lodge of Sons of Norway.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Alfeld Berg, in August 2001. He is survived by his sons, Mike Jacobsen of Auburn, Jeff Jacobsen of Kent, and Dave Jacobsen of Beavercreek, Ore.; sister Alice Walvatne of Kent; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Kent.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or Zion Lutheran Church in Kent.

Arrangements are by Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel in Kent.

Jon S. Reynolds

Jon Stephen Reynolds of Kent died Nov. 27, 2001, in Seattle. He was 57.

Born Sept. 16, 1944, in Burien, he graduated from Highline High School in 1962 and served in the Navy and the Marines. He lived in the South County area for 20 years.

Mr. Reynolds retired in 1999, after 27 years of service as an electrician from the Boeing Co. He enjoyed reading and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Eileen Reynolds of Kent; daughter Leah Reynolds of Ashville, N.C.; stepdaughter Cathy Good of Seattle; and brothers Tom Reynolds of Washington, D.C., and Terry Reynolds of Seattle.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View cemetery

Memorials may be made to the University of Washington Medical Center.

Robert Leslie Smith Mills

Robert Leslie Smith Mills of Auburn died Nov. 21, 2001, in Federal Way. He was 74.

Born Oct. 1, 1927, in Astoria Long Island, N.Y., Mr. Mills lived in the South County area for 30 years.

He served in the Marines until retirement, and enjoyed golfing. He was past president of the Glen Acres Golf & Country Club and of the Auburn and Federal Way Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Masons.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore K. Mills of Auburn; daughter, Camille Parry of Provo, Utah; brother, Howard Mills of Las Vegas, Nev.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Memorials may be made to the Washington Education Association, Retired Memorial Scholarship Fund, 5220 Capitol Blvd., Olympia, WA 98051.

Rodger William Walker

Rodger William Walker of Kent died Dec. 9, 2001, in Kent. He was 76.

Born May 21, 1925, in Parkersburg, W. Va., Mr. Walker served in the Army during World War II. He lived in Kent for seven months.

After 40 years of service as an educator and administrator, he retired in 1990. Mr. Walker enjoyed reading and writing, and was a naturalist with Hamilton County Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Fay G. Walker of Kent; son James Walker of Kent and Rodger Walker of Richmond, Va.; and three grandchildren.

A committal will be held at 10 a.m. today at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Run First Baptist Church, 10461 Pippin Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio.
