Michael R. Dietzen
Michael R. Dietzen of Auburn died Feb. 17, 2002. He was 51.
Born July 18, 1950, in Yakima, he moved to Auburn when he was an infant.
Mr. Dietzen worked in retail sales for Don Small Distribution in Auburn.
He is survived by his father, Robert Dietzen of Auburn; and his sisters, Shannon Brock and Teresa Dietzen, both of Auburn.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Price-Helton Funeral Chapel in Auburn.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Erma E. Guntle
Erma E. Guntle of Federal Way died Feb. 15, 2002. She was 89.
Born Feb. 14, 1913, in Advance, Ind., she lived in South County for 45 years.
She was a homemaker and a member of Star Lake Church of God in Federal Way.
Mrs. Guntle is survived by her sons, Robert Guntle of Chinook and Joseph W. Guntle of Olympia; daughters Patricia Swayzee of Indiana and Sandra Miller of Federal Way; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will follow at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.
Remembrances may be made to the Gideons Bible Society.
Hsien Li Po
Hsien Li Po of Kent died Feb. 11, 2002. He was 73.
Born Sept. 1, 1928, in China, he lived in South County for four years.
He was a cook in a restaurant and enjoyed cooking, traveling and photography.
He is survived by his wife, Tu-Mei Chang of Kent; sons Hsiao-Chi Po and Yan-Chi Po; daughter Cheng-Wen Po; and four grandchildren.
Florence Rose Ghiringhelli
Florence Rose Ghiringhelli of Monroe died Feb. 13, 2002. She was 96.
Born Oct. 10, 1905, in Auburn, N.Y., she lived in South County for 30 years before moving to Monroe three months ago.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Renton. She enjoyed taking care of her dogs, fishing, and flower gardening.
Mrs. Ghiringhelli's husband, Carlo Ghiringhelli, died in 1952. Her daughter, Marjorie Borowich, died in 2001.
She is survived by her son, Harry Munger of Monroe; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Faull-Stokes Mortuary. Inurnment will be at Gethsemane cemetery in Federal Way.
Richard A. Pesce
Richard A. Pesce of Federal Way died Jan. 29, 2002, in Federal Way. He was 74.
Born Aug. 30, 1927, in Clarksburg, W. Va., Mr. Pesce served in the Navy during World War II, and lived in Federal Way for 41 years.
He worked as a mechanical engineer at The Boeing Co.
Mr. Pesce is survived by his wife, Mary Pesce of Federal Way; son Drake Pesce of SeaTac; daughter Denise Briggs of Bonney Lake; brothers Joe Fisher, Frank Fisher and Sam Fisher, all of California; sisters Jean Fisher of California and Mary Zangage of Florida and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Leon `Lee' Smith
Leon ``Lee'' Micheal Smith of Auburn died Feb. 13, 2002, in Auburn. He was 63.
Born Dec. 21, 1938, in Churchs Ferry, N.D., Mr. Smith served as a Russian linguist in the Air Force in Japan and received the Good Conduct Medal. He married
Linda O. Dressen on Aug. 30, 1969, in Auburn and lived in Auburn for 32 years.
Mr. Smith worked as a machinist at The Boeing Co., then worked at Continental Can Co. and General Electric, before retiring. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and reading.
He is survived by his wife, Linda O. Smith of Auburn; son James Smith of Auburn; father Leon E. Smith of Federal Way; brothers Robert Smith of Auburn, John Smith of Tulsa, Okla., David Smith of Sedro Woolley and Ronald Smith of Auburn; sister Jo Ann Henke of Kent; and two grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. A second memorial service will be held Feb. 23 at Lebanon Lutheran Church in Leeds, N.D., with inurnment at Persilla Watts cemetery in Rugby, N.D.
Thomas S. DeWaele
Thomas Sylvester DeWaele of Auburn died Feb. 13, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way. He was 96.
Born March 1, 1905, in Gladstone, Mich., Mr. DeWaele lived in Seattle and Auburn for most of his life.
He was an animal technician at the University of Washington and was a member of Eagles Aerie 1 for 74 years.
Mr. DeWaele was preceded in death by his wife, Adelaine DeWaele, and son Louis DeWaele. He is survived by his son, John DeWaele of Auburn; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverton Crest cemetery in Tukwila.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Margaret `Peggy' Barkubein
Margaret ``Peggy'' Elizabeth Barkubein of Auburn died Feb. 11, 2002, at Auburn Regional Medical Center. She was 87.
Born May 16, 1914, in Sumner, she lived in Auburn for 50 years.
She enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and baking.
She is survived by her sister, Gini Beerman of Franklin, Tenn.
No public service will be held.

Erma Mae Hudspeth Lyons
Erma Mae Hudspeth Lyons of Auburn died Feb. 12, 2002, in Auburn. She was 83.
Born April 9, 1918, in Logan, Iowa, Mrs. Lyons lived in the South County area for 57 years.
She worked as a bench mechanic at the Boeing Co., retiring in 1982 after 33 years of service. She was a member of the Auburn Eagles Auxiliary and volunteered for 17 years at the Auburn Retirement Center.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Erville H. Hudspeth and Harold Lyons. She is survived by her sons, Donald L. Hudspeth of Anderson Island and Robert E. Hudspeth of Auburn; daughter, Tam Hudspeth-Loveland of Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. today at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

George E. Holloway
George Edward Holloway of Kent died Feb. 5, 2002, at Auburn Regional Medical Center. He was 90.
Born June 13, 1911, in Kent, Mr. Holloway graduated from Kent High School and earned a forestry degree from the University of Washington. He lived most of his life in Kent.
Mr. Holloway worked as an engineer at Pacific Car and Foundry in Renton, and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, the Kent Historical Society, and the University of Washington Forestry Alumni Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Holloway. Mr. Holloway is survived by his son, Charles E. Holloway of Burlington; daughters, Linda Holloway of Kent and Mary Whitley of Enumclaw; sister, Nellie Schlagel of Kent; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Friday at Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel in Kent. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church in Kent. Private burial will be at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.
Christine J. Alumbaugh
Christine J. Alumbaugh of Maple Valley died Feb. 13, 2002, in Auburn. She was 54.
Born April 5, 1947, in Seattle, Mrs. Alumbaugh lived in the South County area for 54 years.
She worked as a technical lead at The Boeing Co. for 29 years, and was a member of the AFL-CIO and Machinist Union 751F. She enjoyed interior decorating and shopping.
She is survived by her husband, Kyle F. Alumbaugh of Maple Valley; sons, John W. McGraw of Kent and Michael W. McGraw of Kent; stepsons, Randy D. Alumbaugh and Ron D. Alumbaugh of Stanwood; stepdaughter, Kim E. Stories of Sedro Woolley; sisters, Marianne Dorning of Kirkland and Marlene Toantas of Fall City; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.
Samuel `Pat' Jarvis
Samuel ``Pat'' Joseph Jarvis of Renton died Feb. 10, 2002, at Bethesda House of Kindness in Renton. He was 89.
Born Oct. 7, 1912, in Seattle, Mr. Jarvis graduated from Kent High School in 1929 and was a lifetime resident of the South County area.
Mr. Jarvis owned East Hill Hardware for 22 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Kent.
He is survived by his son, Tyler N. Jarvis of Renton; daughter, Joan E. Oordt of Kent; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at the St. Anthony Chapel of Holy Spirit Parish in Kent. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.
