Tom Hawthorne
Tom Hawthorne of Enumclaw died Jan. 30, 2002, in Enumclaw. He was 67.
Born June 16, 1934, in Seattle, Mr. Hawthorne graduated from Enumclaw High School and served in the Army during the 1950s. He was a lifetime resident of the South County area.
Mr. Hawthorne worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Black Diamond Historical Society and the International Union of Operating Engineers 302. He enjoyed boating, waterskiing, and reading about history.
He was preceded in death by his companion of many years, Ellen Brevik. He is survived by his son, Gary Hawthorne of Sumner, daughter, Cindy Stone, stepsons, Don Brevik and Ron Brevik; stepdaughters, Dolores Hobart, Doris Wallin, and Tammi Halman; brother, Bill Hawthorne of Black Diamond; sister, JoAnn Livengood of Renton; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Burial was held Feb. 2 at Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturdayat Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home.

Clarence W. Inlow
Clarence Wright Inlow of Auburn died Feb. 9, 2002, in Tacoma. He was 80.
Born Sept. 16, 1921, in Vandalia, Mo., Mr. Inlow lived in Auburn for two years.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years, then worked at ADESA Transportation Division in Auburn. He was a lifetime member of the National Letter Carriers Association and was a member of Oceanside Elks Lodge 1561. Mr. Inlow enjoyed bowling and traveling, especially in his motor home.
Mr. Inlow is survived by his wife, Betty Inlow of Auburn; sister, Jennie S. Roland of Rockport, Texas; six stepchildren; and 11 step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.
Lula M. Samuelson
Lula Mae Samuelson of Kent died of cancer Feb. 11, 2002, at Valley Medical Center in Renton. She was 77.
Born Aug. 16, 1924, in Turlock, Calif., she moved from San Francisco to Kent in 1991. She worked as an insurance auditor, retiring in 1991.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Harry McAllister. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Ankney of Temecula, Calif.; sisters, Thelma Spohn of Camarillo, Calif. and Ruby J. Hazelton of Tollhouse, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Monday at Fresno Memorial Park in Fresno.

Alvin W. Amos
Alvin Wesley Amos of Federal Way died Feb. 11, 2002, in Federal Way.
Born Jan. 1, 1926, in Taft, Calif., Mr. Amos lived in Federal Way for 10 years.
He owned and operated Amos Construction in Bakersfield, Calif. He enjoyed horticulture, hiking, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Amos is survived by his sons, Stephen Amos of Federal Way and Gary Amos of Sedona, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.
Private family services were held.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Sharon Rae Phillips
Former Auburn resident Sharon Rae Phillips of Tacoma died Feb. 9, 2002, in Lakewood. She was 55.
Born Sept. 9, 1946, in Renton, she spent her life in Auburn except for one month in Tacoma.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed bingo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Forest Tollesson. She is survived by her sons, Tony Tollesson of Tacoma and Dirk Tollesson of Nevada; daughters Kim Howes of Tacoma, Stacey Ross of Auburn and Lorena Williams of Missouri; brothers Larry Phillips of Index, John Phillips of Gig Harbor and Duane Phillips of Kent; and ten grandchildren.
Private services will be held. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery in Renton.
Arrangements are by Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup.
Theresa J. Silvestri
Theresa J. Silvestri of Enumclaw died Feb. 9, 2002, in Enumclaw. She was 88.
Born March 26, 1913, in Renton, Mrs. Silvestri graduated from Renton High School and lived in Enumclaw since 1933. She lived in South County for 88 years.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts and watching wrestling. She was also a Girl Scout leader for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Silvestri and sister Katie Kladnick. She is survived by her daughters, Julia Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., Betty Lou Walters of Auburn, and Carla VanderWaal and Rose Kravagna, both of Enumclaw; brother Joe Diambri of Renton; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw.

Edward R. Murphy
Edward R. Murphy of Auburn died Aug. 4, 2002. He was 88.
Born March 21, 1914, in Denver, he was a tool liaison with the Douglas Aircraft Co. in California.
He retired in 1973 after 30 years of service.
He enjoyed the outdoors, working in his yard and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Miriam L. Murphy of Auburn; daughters Marsha E. Murphy of Auburn and Carol A. Murphy Merrill of Oregon; and brother Floyd E. Murphy of California.
Private family services will be held.
Remembrances may be made to the Auburn Fire Department.
Alberta Maxwell
Alberta ``Bert'' Maxwell, a 17-year resident of the Renton area, died Aug. 1, 2002, in Renton. She was 78.
Born Jan. 11, 1924, in Branson, Mo., the daughter of Clyde and Grace Towler, she grew up in Texas and Wyoming during the Depression.
After surviving scarlet fever as a child, she became an outstanding athlete during high school in Texas, playing basketball, volleyball and softball.
She completed business school and moved to Washington, D.C., to work as an administrative assistant for the federal government. She also was a model. She worked as an administrative assistant for Pacific Power and Light, retiring in 1978. She was also a member of Fairwood Golf and Country Club.
In 1947, she was married
to Richard Maxwell. He died in May 2001.
She enjoyed reading, golfing, investing, watching sports and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Mark Maxwell of Olympia and Stuart C. Maxwell of Federal Way; four daughters Terry L. Martin of Snohomish, Kelly J. Stone of Seattle, Karen M. Ende of Los Angeles, and Glenda G. Surdam of Eugene; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial service will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living, 5801 Sandpoint Way, in Seattle. There was a private cremation.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of King County. Arrangements are under the direction of Faull-Stokes Mortuary in Renton.
Kea-Shawnna Marie Willingham-Thomas
Kea-Shawnna Marie Willingham-Thomas of Covington died Aug. 1, 2002. She was 11 months old.
She was born Aug. 19, 2001.
She is survived by her parents, Stephen and Christy Willingham-Thomas; grandparents Betty Kohler, Tonya and Johnnie Toler and Stephen Elliott.
Remembrances may be made to the SIDS Foundation in Seattle.
Gladys R. Kline
Gladys R. Kline of Des Moines died Aug. 4, 2002. She was 100.
Born April 1, 1902 in Warrensburg, N.Y., she was a homemaker and member of Kent Alliance Church.
She grew up in Warrensburg and attended Nyack Bible College in Nyack, N.Y. for two years. She was married
to Martin Kline in 1922; he preceded her in death in 1987. The couple pastored in New York state and the Northwest.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sylvia Hammersmark, in 1989.
She is survived by her sons, Maurice Kline of Shoreline and Doyle Kline of Gulfport, Miss.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Delbert G. Boltz
Renton resident Delbert G. Boltz died July 31, 2002, in Lincoln, Neb., after suffering a heart attack while traveling to a family reunion. He was 80.
Mr. Boltz was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Wood River, Neb. He was married
to Maxine Boltz in Lennox, Calif., on Dec. 9, 1945.
Mr. Boltz served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and received a marksmanship award. He saw service in the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean.
Before retiring in 1981, Mr. Boltz had been a sheet metal worker at PACCAR for 18 years. A resident of the South County area for 39 years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and yard work.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Boltz, and sisters Jean Hanson, Ila Tesmer and Helen Henry.
He is survived by his wife Maxine Boltz and a son, Richard Boltz, both of Renton; brothers Elmer Boltz of Grand Island, Neb., and Duane Boltz of Yelm; a sister, Audrey Campbell of Hemet, Calif.; and one grandson.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Park Funeral Home in Renton.
