Louis F. Wolfer
Louis F. Wolfer of Kent died April 17, 1998. Born Oct. 30, 1935, in Conception, Mo., he lived in Kent for seven years. He worked in maintenance planning for Alaska Airlines and was a member of Knights of Columbus in Kent and St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Black Diamond. He married
Evelyn Collfried in 1961.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Wolfer of Kent; three sons, Adam Wolfer of Corvallis, Ore., Edward Wolfer of Tacoma and Steve Wolfer of Eugene, Ore.; a daughter, Cindy Ann McEwen of Salem, Ore.; three sisters, Clara Davis of Torrington, Wyo., Barbara Reynolds of Plant City, Fla., and Betty Brown of Paxton, Neb.; two brothers, his twin, Leonard Wolfer of Tucson, Ariz., and Leo Wolfer of Kansas City, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
Rosary will be at 4 p.m. today at Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Barbara's Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Matilda A. Favro
Former Renton resident Matilda A. Favro of Seattle died April 17, 1998, in Seattle. She was 92.
Born June 6, 1905, in Mattie, Italy, to Maddalena and Remigio Favro, she lived in Renton from 1912 to 1927 until moving to Seattle. A member of the Renton Historical Society, she worked for Williams and McKnights in Renton and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking and baking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emilio Favro, and a brother, Mario Favro.
She is survived by two daughters, Matilda V. Jones of Seattle and Linda E. Loney of Walla Walla; two brothers, Aldo Favro of Renton and William R. Favro of Issaquah; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 7 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. A service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park.
Henry Oakland
Henry Oakland of Auburn died April 17, 1998, in Auburn. He was 89.
Born Nov. 10, 1908, in Norway, he had lived in South County for 43 years. He was a truck driver for Northern Pacific Railroad and retired in 1974. He enjoyed traveling and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Oakland of Auburn; a daughter, Judy Sican of Des Moines; two brothers, Erling Aarstad of Oslo, Norway, and E. Aarstad, also of Norway; two sisters, Agnes Aarstad of Norway and Rachel Thayer of Denver; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.
George Hannah
George Hannah of Renton died of cancer April 17, 1998, at Rodica's Adult Family Home in Renton. He was 90.
Born Jan. 12, 1908, in Seattle, Mr. Hannah was raised in the Rainier Valley. He married
Louise M. Poli. A resident of Renton for 50 years, he was a retired Teamster who had worked for a beverage distribution company.
Mr. Hannah was a life member of St. Andrews Lodge 35 of the Free Masons.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Hannah of Renton; four nieces; and a great-nephew.
There will be no service. A private cremation and burial will take place at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial in SeaTac.
Memorials may be made to Medic One, the Renton Historical Society or Children's Hospital.
Otto J. Wiese
Otto J. Wiese of Federal Way died April 16, 1998, in Federal Way. He was 95.
Born Oct. 19, 1902, in Elkton, S.D., Mr. Wiese married
Letha Bushnell April 2, 1925, and moved to Seattle in 1941. He worked for The Boeing Co., Harper McGee and the Automobile Club of America. He retired in 1971 and moved to Belmor Park in Federal Way in 1972.
Mr. Wiese was a member of the Queen Anne Baptist Church in Seattle and the Teamsters Union. A lifelong baseball fan, he enjoyed playing bridge and poker.
He is survived by his wife, Letha Wiese of Federal Way; four daughters, Fern Valentine and Alice Goshern, both of Auburn, Mary Lue Tupper of West Chester, Pa., and Phyllis Cass of Bellevue; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Queen Anne Baptist Church in Seattle. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Mountain View cemetery in Auburn. Arrangements are by Price-Helton Funeral Chapel of Auburn.
Memorials may be made to Queen Anne Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
Gladys H. Mulligan
Gladys Hazel Mulligan of Renton died Feb. 3, 1998, at Valley Medical Center in Renton. She was 81.
Born Aug. 4, 1916, in Cle Elum, she worked as a cook with her mother for a logging company where her father and 60 others worked. She was a resident of the South County area 41 years.
She married
Anthony Mulligan in 1953 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She worked at Salem Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse for four years and worked at The Boeing Co. as a grade A riveter for five years.
She was a member of St. Anthony in Renton, a life member of the American Legion, a member of the Aljo square dancers and the oldest member of the South End Dart League for seven years. She enjoyed playing cards and games, bowling, crocheting and sewing.
She was preceded in death by a son, Laurel Lamb; a daughter, Ellen Marshall; and an infant.
Mrs. Mulligan is survived by her husband, Anthony I. Mulligan of Renton; four sons, Henry Lamb of Lacey, Jack Lamb of Spokane, Jim Francisco of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Tony Mulligan III of Renton; five daughters, Emily Richmond of Tacoma, Leora Maxey of Bonney Lake, Donna Brantzeg of Columbia, S.C., and Annette Hayes and Gracie DeArman, both of Kent; two brothers, Edward Taylor and Richard Taylor, both of California; a sister, Arlene Hill of California; 36 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent, followed by a funeral at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.
Ruby C. May
Ruby Carolyn May died Feb. 3, 1998, in her Renton home. She was 87.
Born Sept. 30, 1910, in Blayden, Neb., to Ernest and Rose Clark, Mrs. May was a resident of the South County area 30 years. She married
DeForest Ishmael Grapes and lived near Torrington, Wyo.; he died in 1941. She married
Arnold DeBock in 1942, lived in Colorado, then moved to Moses Lake, where she attended Big Bend Community College and received her LPN license.
Mr. DeBock died in 1967. She married
Albert W. May in 1970 in Renton. She worked as a nurse for Valley Medical Center until her retirement in 1973.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Mattison.
Mrs. May is survived by her husband, Albert W. May of Renton; three sons, Dee Grapes and John Grapes, both of Ellensburg, and the Rev. Gilbert Grapes of Springfield, Mo.; a daughter, Carolyn Crawford of Oxbow, Ore.; four sisters, Pansi Knori, Gladys Giersdorf and Genevieve Glee, all of Colorado, and Inex Lubke of Wyoming; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 7 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park.
Louis R. Sanges
Louis R. Sanges of Renton died Feb. 5, 1998, in Renton. He was 81.
Born June 21, 1916, in Portland, Mr. Sanges moved to the South County area over 70 years ago. He graduated from Cleveland High School in the early 1930s and attended Gonzaga University for two years.
He worked as a carpenter, owned The Corner Tavern in Ballard and worked for the King County Tax Assessor Department for 20 years. He retired in the early 1970s.
Mr. Sanges was a lifetime member of the Renton and Burien Elks clubs and a former member of the Carpenters Union. He enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Joy Sanges of Jalisco, Mexico, and a brother, John R. Sanges of Halls Lake.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Faull-Stokes Mortuary in Renton. A potluck will follow the service at Renton Eagles. There will be a private cremation.
Memorials may be made to the Renton Eagles or 21 Club.
Minnie `Babe' Best
Former Kent resident Minnie `` Babe'' Best of Puyallup died Feb. 4, 1998, in Puyallup. She was 84.
Born Dec. 16, 1913, in Ackley, Minn., Mrs. Best had lived in Kent for 30 years. A homemaker, she enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping and travel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Best, in 1990.
Mrs. Best is survived by two sons, Phillip Best of Chehalis and Bob Andrews of Puyallup; three daughters, Arlene Fielder of Walnut Ridge, Ark., Ardene Lammon of California and Jan Best of Puyallup; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 9:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wildwood Ward, Puyallup. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, also at the church. There will be a private burial at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton. Arrangements are by Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.
