Maurice M. BYRD
Age 86, passed away on November 2, 2000.
Born in Laramie, Wyoming on August 8, 1914.
He was a graduate of Wichita State University and was an engineer for Boeing for 33 years.
He will be missed by Mary, his beloved wife of 61 years, his children, Susan Kelly, Nancy Rockwell, James B. Byrd, and John Michael Byrd, his brother James C. Byrd of Kansas, his eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, other family members, and many friends. He loved his family, books, astronomy, and science.
A private family Memorial was held Sunday, November 5th.

Grace Elizabeth CARLSON
Grace Elizabeth CARLSON 94. Born Jan. 31, 1906 in Rankin, Tenn.
passed away Oct. 26, 2000 in Federal Way.
"Nanna Grace" will be lovingly remembered by her family which includes her daughter Lois Ander son of Federal Way, three grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Also surviving, sister Helen Leggett of Silsbee, Texas; niece, Clara Geiger of Lynnwood; and nephew, Rev. John M. Leggett of Pardeville, Wisconsin.

C. William CATHEY
Printer and Boater One of Seattle's most friendly businessmen, pleasure boat enthusiast and avid sport fisherman passed away at home on October 31, 2000 at the age of 73.
Well known for his dry wit, wonderful sense of humor, kindness and generosity, "Bill" Cathey would always find time to talk with friends, neighbors, employees or total strangers.
The caring and concern he would show for others will always be greatly appreciated.
He was born in Seattle on August 22, 1927, the only child of Freda and Charles Cathey, Sr.
After being raised in North Seattle he graduated from Ballard High School, he also attended Seattle Pacific College. Prior to graduation, he interrupted his education in 1943 to enter military service during World War II.
Being too young to enter the Navy he fulfilled his obligation to his country by join ing the Merchant Marines.
His first assignment was aboard a munitions ship and then he spent the next four years sailing throughout the Aleutian Islands, Central America and the South Pacific.
He traveled through the Panama Canal five times and also made port calls in Manila, Hong Kong and Tahiti.
One of his favorite ports was the dock at Husky stadium where he would be at every game with his favorite "Dawg" hat on cheering the team.
His passion for fishing was never quite fulfilled as he was always on the lookout for the "Big One".
Following the war he started working for "Ma Bell" and also had careers at Associated Grocers and KOMO-TV and Radio.
During those years he married
Betty Jo Sleigh and had two children.
When the opportunity arrived to be come part owner in a printing company he jumped at the chance.
Following several years of being the top salesman and junior partner for the firm he was able to buy out his partner and become the full owner of Security Press.
He was a long time member of the Edmonds and Tyee Yacht Clubs, a director of the Recreation al Boating Association of Washington and active in the Pacific Printing Association.
After many successful years of running his company he finally decided in 1995 to "fire himself" so he could devote more of his well earned retirement to enjoy traveling, spending time with friends as well as working on his boat "The Chatty Cathey"
His survivors include his son, Chuck Cathey, daughter Cristy Cathey, his two aunts Jean Tomasovich, Nadine Hanson, many cousins, friend Bernadette Reed and loyal and devoted companion Christine Christoff.
A truly wonderful person, great father, and loyal friend who's one of a kind personality will be missed by all of those who were blessed to know him.
Memorial Services for family and close friends will be at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 18826 3rd N.W., Shoreline at 4:00 p.m. November 9, 2000.

Mary Bensusen CHAPMAN
After a lengthy illness, Mary Bensusen Chapman died peacefully on November 4, 2000 at the age of 77.
She was born in Seattle but lived on her beloved Whidbey Island for the past 31 years.
Mary will be remembered lovingly by family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents Jack & Calo Bensusen, her brother Al and sister Julie.
Mary is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Dianne & Richard Forth.
She also leaves her sisters Lucy and Virginia and brother Chuck, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Services were held on November 6 at the Sephardic Brotherhood cemetery.

Ralph Gray CHARBONNEAU
On Tuesday, October 24th, following a long illness, Ralph passed through the doors to the next realm.
Born in Osborne, Kansas on January 4th, 1929, Ralph was the son of Drs. Alvarez and Jessie Charbonneau.
He was a graduate of Doane College, Nebraska, and attended the University of Michigan.
From 1950 to 1954, Ralph served as a Russian language specialist for the U.S. Air Force in Germany.
Returning to the States, he began a banking career in Kansas City, where he met and married
Marti.
Their children were born there, and the family moved to Seattle in 1963 when Ralph began work for Seattle First National Bank in the International Banking department.
In 1969, the family moved to Zurich, Switzerland, where Ralph opened the first foreign office for Seattle First National Bank.
He and the family lived in Europe until 1974 when they returned to Seattle, where Ralph was named Vice President of International Banking.
Ralph was a charter member (1963) of Seattle Congregational Church and became active at both the local and national levels, specializing in areas of church finance, investment, and budget.
He served on the Board of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife Marti, son Eric (Sharon), daughter Christine, and grandsons Marc, Luc, and Paul Charbonneau, and sister Edna Jones Charbonneau of Salem, South Carolina.
In his final days, Ralph gained great comfort from the care and concern provided by the people of Swedish Hospice and from the attention provided by his loving friends and neighbors and his four dogs.
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Ralph's Life will be held at Noon on Saturday, November 11th at Seattle Congregational Church, 15518 27th Ave. N.E., Seattle, WA 98155.

Kenneth R. CHRYST
Kenneth R. CHRYST A.K.A. GRUMPY, passed away Oct. 31, 2000.
Ken was born July 28, 1924 in Los Angeles, CA. where he was raised and educated.
After serv ing in the Navy for three years he moved to Seattle.
Ken worked for Boeing for 40 years, retiring in 1988.
Ken's home away from home was the Boeing Flying Club where he was an active member for 30 years.
He started as a student and went on to teaching both flight and ground instruction.
Ken and his wife Carol have been Seattle Mariner season ticket holders for the past four years, and enjoyed spending time together at the Spring training.
Ken is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol, six stepchildren, Debbie Dumont (Jim), Sandy Roe, Scott DeLappe (Teresa), Paul DeLappe (Melody), John DeLappe (Myla), Rich De Lappe (Teresa); and 12 loving grandchildren, Jennifer, Meagan, Kelsey, TJ, Robbie, Gretchen, Shawn, Shelby, Cameron, Shannon, Make na, and Grant.
He is also survived by his sister, Connie Mahan of Seattle.
We will all miss Ken's caring heart and playful manner.

Roy COLBERT
Roy was born near Tonasket, Washington, July 11, 1920 to Elmer Leroy Colbert, and Carlyn Umpsheid Colbert.
His early years were spent on the family cattle ranch.
He attended Tonasket High School, and maintained those friendships through the years.
Roy had a career with United Airlines that took him across the country.
In 1957 Roy retired from the airline industry and the family moved to Bothell, where he built several houses and started a janitorial company.
In 1962 the Seattle community asked Roy to serve as a team member in the preparation for the Seattle World's Fair.
His passion since retiring has been woodcarving.
His real talent was in helping others reach their potential, through coaching, teaching and advising.
He wanted each carver to do his best, and reveled in their success.
Roy will be greatly missed by his wife, Barie; son, Dale; granddaughter, Lisa Petro; great grandchildren, Traci, Tomas, Julie and Elizabeth Petro; sister, Dixie Tremain, brother, Mark Colbert; nephews, Duane and David Tremain, and Dan Colbert; as well as several grand nephews and nieces. Roy will rest in Tonasket cemetery.

Charles Bailey COLEMAN
Born January 14, 1913 in Seattle and passed away November 1, 2000.
A Navy veteran of WWII and a lifelong Seattle resident, "Chuck" resided for many years in the Alki Beach area of West Seattle.
Before retiring from Seattle City Light in 1975, he was a Painting Contractor and life member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades Local Union No. 300.
He had a full and active life enjoying his time salmon fishing in Elliott Bay, gardening and family gatherings at his cabin on Whidbey Island.
A man of integrity and generosity, he was always ready and willing to help others and all that knew him will miss his hearty greeting and free flowing laughter.
Another bright light of America's "Greatest Generation" has dimmed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Minerva, in June of this year.
He is survived by his son John (Sally), daughters Carol and Sharlene (Bill), brother Scott Coleman, grandchildren, Greg (Jeri), Jamie (Rob), Rachelle, Donella, Charisse, Charles Jr. and great grandchildren, Greta, Tavian, and Odin.
His Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2000 at EVERGREEN-WASHELLI FUNERAL HOME 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle, Wa. 98133
