Arlena "Nannie" JONES
Arlena "Nannie" Jones was born on December 28, 1919, in Talbutton County, Talbutton, Georgia to the union of the late James and Anna Ingram. Nannie, as she was so dearly called, moved with her family to Atlanta, Georgia in 1925 and attended David T. Howard School. She met her husband Caselow "Oney" Jones, and they were united in marriage on April 19, 1941; Oney preceded her in death June 1979. In March 1945 they moved to Seattle. In January 1953, they were blessed with the birth of their only daughter Linda Kaye. In 1955 she was baptized at Peoples Institutional Church in Seattle, where in 1978 she moved her faith to New Hope Baptist Church where she was an active member until her illness. Nannie worked as a Switchboard Operator at Washington Natural Gas from October 1967 to June 1994. She was 74 at the time of her retirement. Nannie was called home to rest on December 10, 2000. Next to her family Nannie enjoyed traveling. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, a thoughtful friend and neighbor, and most of all for her love of crossword puzzles. She will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered by many lifelong friends who were truly a part of her extended family. She leaves behind her daughter, Linda Jones-Hawkins; son-in-law, Pedro Hawkins; granddaughter, Tracey Linnelle Lewis; grandson, Pedro Anthony Hawkins, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Amarrea Kaliyah Lewis; brother, George Ingram and his wife Delores of Seattle; nephew James Arthur Lunsford and his wife JoAnn; niece, Janelle Lunsford; nephew, Jimmy Lunsford all of Milledgeville, Georgia. Preceding her in death, brother, Ben Ingram and sister, Hennrettia Ingram-Lunsford, both of Milledgeville, Georgia. Nannie will be laid to rest next to Oney at Sunset Hill Memorial Park, Bellevue, WA. Visitation will be offered Thursday and Friday 12 to 8 p.m. at Bonney-Watson Capitol Hill. Roger JONES
Roger Jones, born September 12, 1930 in New York City. Died November 29, 2000. A beloved father and grandfather, Roger is survived by wife Dorothy Evelyn; son David, daughters Susan Broughton, Kathryn Calderwood, Laurie Green, and Leslie Daugherty; grandchildren Jason and Ryan Green, Brenna Daugherty, and Julia Jones; brother Allen, sister Marian Westrem; and aunt Althea Moberg. Graduated from Nooksak High School, attended the University of Washington. Served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, was employed as a drafts man and technical designer by The Boeing Company for 43 years and retired in 1998. A very well-read and knowledgeable man, Roger loved birding, fishing, building, and cherished being with his family. Private family service. Ursula JUDKINS
She died December 4th after a long battle with cancer at age 68. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex G. Judkins and survived by her son, Clark and her daughter-in-law, Dawn, her brothers, Tobi, Joerg, and Egbert, her sisters, Gisi and Mausi, mother-in-law Frances Judkins and numerous family members and friends. She was very appreciated for her successful efforts to improve her community. She was involved in many organizations, some of which include: member of the Discovery Park Advisory Council, Past President and Board member of the Magnolia Community Club, liaison to Friends of Discovery Park, member of Discovery Park Interagency Committee, Mounger Pool Committee, Rail Noise Mitigation Commit tee, Aircraft Overflight Committee, Magnolia/ Queen Anne District Council of the Department of Neighborhoods, Applied Wastewater Technology Advisory Committee, and Metro/West Point Shoreline Park Improvement Fund. Ursula will be sorely missed by family, friends and the community. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 11, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 3218 W. Barrett Street. Robert L. KAESTNER
Robert L. Kaestner, 72, died December 5, 2000 at his home of cancer. He was born January 19, 1928 in Manhaven, ND., the son of William and Elizabeth Kaestner. He has lived in the Seattle area off and on over the last 50 years. Robert spent a short time in the Navy, receiving a medical discharge. He was a truck driver for more than 30 years and enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his son and grandsons race motor cycles. Robert was preceded in death by his father, William, and brother Ernie. He is survived by sons, Cal (Pam) Kaestner of Stanwood and Mark (June) Kaestner of Cle Elum; daughter, Julie (Jerry) Barber of Auburn; mother, Elizabeth of Silver Lake; sister, Leona Elliott; brothers, Gene, Chuck, Ed, Don & Dean, all of the Seattle area; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and 24 nieces and nephews. Hiroaki KATSUNO
Hiroaki Katsuno, 67, of Everett died November 24, 2000. Born July 19, 1933 in Naga-No-Ken, Japan. Hiroaki Katsuno was a University of Washington graduate of Electrical Engineering. He worked at The Boeing Company for 30 years, retired July 1, 1995. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and loved to cook various dishes. Hiroaki is survived by his father, Yoshinori Katsuno; three sisters and one brother, Yasumi Hagegawa, Akiko Yamazaki, Chiharu Miyano and Yasuo Katsuno; niece Ayako Miyano; and various other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Ichie Katsuno. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 9 at Solie Funeral Home Chapel, Everett with a Reception to follow in the Fireside Room. Marvin F. KELLY
Born May 24, 1912 in Chelan WA.; passed away December 10, 2000 at age 88. After graduation from Washington State, Marvin served as Dean of Men at Montana State until joining the Navy in 1943, retiring as Navy Captain in 1972; and later retiring from Civil Service in Personnel. Member, Nile Shrine and Magnolia Presbyterian Church. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Muriel A. of Seattle; sons, M. Kenneth Dale KITCHEN, 65, died at his home in Port Orchard on December 9, 2000. He was born in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska on December 21, 1935 to Charles H., Sr. and Mabel Kitchen. He married
Evelyn M. Dschaak on July 7, 1961 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Mr. Kitchen worked for the Seattle City Water Department for 29 years, retiring in 1996. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 - 1955 as an Airman 1st Class receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion post in Lacey, WA. Surviving are his wife Evelyn; daughters Kimberly A. Haistings of Carnation, WA., Charleen M. Wade of Seattle, and Carol J. Kopta of Port Orchard; brothers Charles H. Kitchen, Jr. of Grapeview, WA., Theodore L. Kitchen of Mead, WA., Roy Kitchen of Murtaugh, ID.; sisters Hazel White of Mead, WA., Marie Adams of Mead, WA., and Judy Rosencrantz of Murtaugh, ID.; and seven grandchildren. Joyce Helen Kostanich
Born May 20, 1919 on Bainbridge Island, WA. Peacefully passed away at home on December 6, 2000 in the presence of her loving family. She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Anthony. A son Donald, daughters, Carole, Judy and Janet. Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Joyce was a wonderful homemaker. She loved baking, working in her garden, doing needle-work and sewing. She and Anthony had a love of ballroom dancing. She will be greatly missed by all. At her request there will be no services. Nancy KUNITSUGU
Nancy KUNITSUGU 46 of Seattle, passed away unexpectedly December 5, 2000. She is missed dearly by family and friends. Our beloved wife, lover, friend, mother, daughter, sister and teacher, Nancy was gentle, kind, caring, and possessed an irreverent sense of humor that was a blessing to us all. Nancy was passionate about music. She loved art that was direct and honestly expressed humanity. Photographing family friends, and especially cats, was a lifelong passion kindled by her father on her favorite Christmas ever. Recognizing the potential in everyone, Nancy's commitment to community and her love of bringing people together resulted in an ever-growing "family." She is survived by her husband John, daughters Jennifer and Alexa, parents Mel and Sonia Dennis, sisters Melinda Grout and Sandra, brothers Robert, Michael and William Dennis, and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and in-laws. With a smile for all, except the occasional carpool lane violator or tailgater, Nancy will always have a special place in our hearts. A gathering will be held Sunday, December 10th at 12:30 pm at the Arboretum Graham Center. In keeping with Nancy's commitment to all children's education and opportunities a fund has been established to purchase books for school libraries. Mary E. LACKIE-SROUFE
Mary E. LACKIE-SROUFE passed away on November 19, 2000, in Santa Cruz, CA. after a brief illness. She was 78. Mary was born on January 21, 1922, in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from Holy Angels High School and from Seattle University with a degree in nursing. Mary worked many years at Maynard Hospital and later as Director of Red Cross Blood Bank Centers in Seattle, Detroit, and Washington, D.C. Mary is survived by her husband, William Sroufe of Edmonds; her daughter, Aileen Cleary of Bellingham; sons, Terry Lackie of Spokane; Frank Lackie, of Pacifica, CA.; Peter Lackie of Seattle; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren whom she loved very much; and numerous nieces and nephews for whom she held a special fondness. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Frances Nielsen. Her husband from her first marriage, LLoyd Lackie, M.D. died in 1964. A Memorial Service celebrating Mary's life will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2000, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 19th Ave. E. & Aloha, Seattle. Age 90, born April 21, 1910 in Nashport, Ohio.
Horace was drafted into the Army in 1943 and discharged April 30, 1963.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mituko (Kimi) Lapp and many friends and neighbors.
