William James ROLLER
Born November 28th 1935 in Seattle, Washington. He is the son of William Alexander and Ellen Mae Roller. He is survived by his beloved wife Loretta and his three sons; Steve, Scott and Bryan, their wives, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved sister Joan Mehr. He graduated in 1959 from the University of Washington with degrees in Mining Engineering and Industrial Engineering. While attending the University of Washington Jim was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity and served as President his senior year. He also holds a Masters degree in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. Later in his career he earned an Advanced Management degree from Harvard University. He retired his employment with BECU as Sr. Vice President and as President/CEO of BECU Financial Services on December 1, 2000. Jim also taught courses on Ethics and Morality for his company and credit union's industry. He loved Puget Sound, choosing to live on Bainbridge Island and mooring his powerboat, the Spirit, on Liberty Bay in Poulsbo. Jim often spent his free time writing and sharing his poetry with friends and family. Ruth Elizabeth RONNING
Ruth Elizabeth Ronning, age 83, of Everett, died peacefully at home on December 12, with her daughter and son at her bedside. Two days prior, Ruth had just celebrated an early family Christmas with her children, grandchildren, and newly born great-grandchild. Ruth was born January 27, 1917 in Everett, to William and Rose Hickey, owners of Hickey Trucking Company for many years. A graduate of Everett High, she married
Frank Ronning of Everett. Life-long residents of Everett, they eventually managed Hickey Trucking, and raised a family of three children, including son William, deceased. Ruth is survived by son, Robert Ronning of Bothell; daughter, Jan Ronning Smith and husband Jerry of Everett; and daughter-in-law, Mary Ronning of Edmonds. She leaves four grandchildren, Lisa Nelson and husband Mike of Mukilteo, Laurie Mitteer and husband Bruce of Lake Stevens, and Eric and Scotty Ronning Smith of Everett; and a great-grandchild, Joshua Williams Nelson. Ruth had a rich and varied life as a homemaker, trucking company administrator, teacher's aide, and caregiver for 15 years to husband Frank, now deceased. Caring mother, nurturing grandmother, she was a compassionate soul to family, friends, and wide acquaintances. Among her special interests, Ruth was a miniature hobbyist, an activity she shared enthusiastically with daughter Jan and daughter-in-law Mary. Independent, involved, and active throughout her life, including her year-long treatment for breast cancer, she spent her last six weeks at home, mostly in loving care of her daughter Jan. She passes on in peace and dignity just short of her 84th birthday. Memorial Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 16, at Evergreen Funeral Home and cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA. Born in Butte, Montana October 26, 1936. passed away in his home December 5, 2000 in Kent. He was employed at Southend Auto Wrecking as a mechanic for 20 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Rose of Kent; sons, Steven and Mark Rose, both of Kent; daughters, Vyonda and Kimberly Rose, both of Kent; stepsons Dennis Donyes of Kent and Kelly Donyes of Kirkland; stepdaughters Naomi Fackrell of Kent and Phoebe Fowler of Seattle; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jennifer Danner ROSE
Age 30, died unexpectedly December 6, 2000. She is missed by family and the community she served. She gave freely of her time and energy supporting others in crisis, assisting families needing services and loving and caring for children. Jennifer was a resident of the Seattle area for the past 13 years. Her family requests remembrance be made in her name to any agency serving the developmentally disabled which Jennifer served with special talent and love, or the Eastside Friends Meeting (4160 - 158th S.E.; Issaquah, WA. 98027) where she found acceptance, peace and friends. Dashiell Margaret SCHERMERHORN, 44, Born on May 5, 1956 in Olympia, WA. She resided in Puyallup for 13 years, retiring in July and moving with her family to Arizona. She passed away in the comfort of her home in Mesa, AZ., on November 16, 2000. She is survived by husband Douglas; daughters Sarah and Victoria Reed, of the home, Deanna Marie Walton, of Alaska; son Craig Schermerhorn and wife Jennifer of Tacoma; parents Mr. & Mrs. Frank Walton of Seattle; sister Colleen Zwaller of Everett; and many other dear friends and relatives. She was a beautiful person and a true friend to the end. Mabel A. SCHULTZ
Age 67, was born March 1, 1933, to Andy and Mildred (Crandle) Campbell, in Anacortes, WA. She passed away December 12, 2000 in Edmonds, WA. Mabel graduated from Ballard High School in 1951, later that year she went to work for the Pacific Telephone Co. In 1959 she began working for the Boeing Co. in blueprints. She later went to work for American States Insurance Co. in 1970. Mabel volunteered for various organizations. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for 6 years, a member of World Concern, and she was a preschool helper at Edmonds United Methodist Church. She enjoyed painting ceramics, and won numerous blue ribbons for her art. Her other interests included Ladies league play at the Lynnwood Bowling Lanes, camping with her family at their favorite locations near the ocean and in the mountains near Deception Pass. Mabel is survived by her husband Glen L. Schultz of Edmonds, WA.; sons Jim L. Schultz of Mount Vernon, WA. and John M. Schultz of Camano Island, WA. She loved to go to the parks with her precious seven grandchildren: Carol, Jasmine, Alicia, Sara, Samantha, Christopher and Eric Schultz and four great-grandchildren: Amanda Schultz, Jameson Wright, Kyland Schultz and Mathew Brown. Also surviving are her four sisters: Jackie Sylvania, Diane (husband Lee) Moore, Carol (husband Mel) Vincent, and Marilyn (husband Rocky) Melle. Daniel William SLATER
Was born in Olympia, Washington on April 20, 1967 and died in Spokane Washington on December 9, 2000 as the result of an auto accident. He was a graduate of Port Townsend High School, Central Washington University and held a Masters degree in curriculum development from City University. Dan had worked as a floral designer at Port Townsend Floral Co. and Williams Florist in Ellensburg while attending college. Dan was the instructor of vocal music at Quincy High School. His first passion was music and he was known for his Sinatra collection and his love of 'Ol Blue Eyes'. Dan was an officer of the Washington Association of Music Educators and a member of the International Sinatra Society. Dan is survived by father L. Neil Slater and wife Maxima of Port Townsend; mother Nancy Slater and her finance Dave Odegard of Seattle; brothers L. Richard Slater of Aberdeen and Dean Alan Slater of Atlanta, Grandmother Jean Plamondon of Portland, Aunts Mary Huse of Portland, Penny Whitmire of Olympia, cousins Nicole Ross, Brian Huse, Kim Leon, Amy McAfferey, Heidi Whalen, nephew Cory Slater and nieces Amber and Allison Slater. He is also survived by friend and partner Monica Armstrong of Quincy, and countless students and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents Leslie G and Theresa Slater. A Celebration of Dan's life will be held at Benaroya Nordstrom Recital Hall, 3rd and Union, Seattle on Sunday, December 17 at 2 p.m. A Memorial Service will also be held at Quincy High School on Friday, December 15 at 3:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held later in Port Townsend. June M. SPALDING, 81, of Des Moines, WA. Died Friday December 8, 2000. She was born March 29, 1919 in Tacoma, WA.

Helene Rogers Waldbaum Sprincin
Since the death of her mother, Helene was the matriarch of one of Seattle's oldest and largest Jewish families. Born in Seattle on January 2, 1915, Helene died peacefully at Kline Galland Home on December 13, 2000 from Alzheimer's complications. A graduate of Broadway High and a journalism major at the University of Washington before marrying Alan Waldbaum, they raised three sons: Kenneth, Rodney and David Waldbaum. In 1950, Helene and Alan founded Direct Buying Service, Seattle's first complete discount house. Helene was the true leader of that business in which she was later joined by her eldest son Ken Waldbaum, and then her eldest grandson Ron Waldbaum. After Al's death in 1968, Helene married
Mac Sprincin, and they had a wonderful second marriage: spending time with family, traveling and dancing. An active lifelong member of Temple De Hirsch Sinai (where her grandparents, Eva and Sol Rogers, were founding members, and where her son Rodney Waldbaum and her brother Fred Rogers are past presidents), Helene was also active in numerous other Jewish organizations, particularly Hadassah and Brandeis. Helene was Brandeis University National Women's Committee's 1991 Elsa K. Levinson Award recipient. Yet, for Helene, it was always family and friends which came first. She is survived by her sons: Kenneth (Susan) Waldbaum, Rodney (Nina) Waldbaum, David Waldbaum, Harris (Estelle) Sprincin, Charles (Patricia) Sprincin; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven of her eight siblings: William (Betty Ann), Fred (Frances), Morton, Herb, Sydney, and Robert (Eleanor) Rogers and Marilyn (Sid) Wax; aunt Tillie Prottas; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, all of whom she loved dearly and all of whom love her. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Alan Waldbaum and Mac Sprincin; her daughter, Judith Waldbaum; her parents, Harold and Emma Prottas Rogers; and her sister, Lorraine Rogers. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 15, at 12:30 p.m., at Temple De Hirsch Sinai, 16th Ave. E. & E. Union St., Seattle. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Marjorie (Carr) STADE 'Nana'

She was born in Billings, MT. to Robert and Amy Carr. After her marriage to Nelson Stade, she worked for Boeing from 1941 - 1944. When her children were born, she stopped working to stay at home. She was involved in PTA, volunteered at the Fir Crest Center and worked at Parkridge Nursing Home. When she retired, she involved herself in the Ballinger Shrine with her husband in the Legion of Honor. She belonged to the Ahmes Court #41 Ladies of the Oriental Shrine. Her greatest joy were her husband, her two daughters, and her grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and a blessed sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson C. Stade; a sister, and a brother. She is survived by immediate family; her loving daughters and sons-in-law Nella and Dick Pugh and Carmene and Randy Javorski; her grandchildren Heather and Benjy Pugh and Justin Javorski; her sisters, Ruth, Sibyl, and Jacqueline. Marjorie (Nana) was one who always did for others. She earned her wings here on earth and is now flying with the angels. May God Bless and keep her.
