John Spilde HANSEN

Born in Utne, Norway in 1906, passed away in Seattle April 5. He began a life at sea on training ships, then at 13 years of age, sailing the world on merchant ships and tankers. Many years an Alaskan fisherman. preceded in death by his wife Johanna. Survived by daughters Kristi Schapler and Jean Otness, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many friends and relatives here and in Norway. Member of Norwegian War Veterans, and Nordmorslaget Lodges. Remembrances to Queen Anne Healthcare, or Ballard Medic 1. Internment Acacia. At his request there will be no service. Wallace W. HARMON

Age 88, died April 3, 2001. He was born October 15, 1912 in Ruso, North Dakota. Resident of West Seattle for 50 years. Beloved husband of Iris. Father of Jackie, Cass (and Jeff) Sutton. Brother of Gene (and Carrie) Harmon. Grandfather of four. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home, Everett. Elizabeth Anne (Betty) HEYER, 68, of Normandy Park, WA. Went to be with the her Lord Wednesday April 4, 2001 She was born April 29, 1932 in Seattle. Betty is survived by her husband of 50 years Art Heyer, a son Mike and (Dori) Heyer, grandson Luke three granddaughters Jessica, Mikali, Kelsi, sister Myra Gallant, brother Bill Picou and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to Three Tree Community Church. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday April 7, 2001 at Three Tree Community Church, 16261 - 1st Ave S., Seattle, WA. Hazel passed away peacefully at Des Moines, WA. on April 1, 2001. She was born March 3, 1905 at Dayville, OR. to Wayne Upton and Effie Pearl (Evans) Roberson and lived at Bingen, WA. and Seattle. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Robert and son Wayne, and is survived by many nieces and nephews. No services. Interment icon at Greenwood Memorial Park, Renton. Sr. Mary of Mercy (Leona Mary HOILAND) S.P.

Died on April 5, 2001, at Swedish Medical Center, Providence Campus, Seattle, Washington. The Vigil Service will be held at St. Joseph Residence on April 8, 2001, at 7 p.m., and the Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Residence on April 9, 2001, at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary cemetery. Bonney Watson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Leona Mary Hoiland was born to the family of Enevold E. Hoiland and Anna E. Moller on April 1, 1921, in Seattle, Washington. She spent he growing up years in North Seattle, attending Holy Names Academy and graduating from high school in 1939. Later in life she returned to college and earned a bachelor's degree in 1980 from Marylhurst College in Oregon. In her first job out of high school, in the admitting office at Providence Hospital in Seattle, she first became acquainted with Sisters of Providence. She later worked as a secretary in an insurance company until entering the Providence community at Mount St. Vincent in Seattle in July of 1945, at the age of 24. At profession of vows in 1947, she was given the name in religion of Sister Mary of Mercy and remained at Mount St. Vincent, assigned to care of the aged sisters. During most of her religious life, Sister Mary served as a dietician and as a licensed practical nurse in several Providence hospitals and nursing homes. In 1948, Sister Mary moved to St. Peter Claver Center for one year before going to Holy Family Convent to work in the kitchen. She later worked in the kitchen at St. Joseph Hospital, in Vancouver, where she completed an internship in food management and dietary supervision. She also served at St. Mary Hospital, Astoria; Providence Heights, Issaquah; Providence Academy, Vancouver; Ozanam Nursing Home in Tacoma; and St. John Hospital, Port Townsend. Sister Mary embarked on a second career in 1968 as a student nurse at Bellevue Community College and later at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. She studied for state board examinations and helped out in the office at St. Catherine School in 1971. She also had been a nurse at St. Joseph Residence and was employed as an LPN at West Seattle General Hospital. In later years, Sister Mary reduced her workload to two to three hours a day, three days a week in chore service. Then, in 1990, she retired at St. Joseph Residence in Seattle. In the early 1990's, she visited family in Norway, and in 1996 she celebrated her 50th year as a Sister of Providence. Survivors include several cousins in Washington, including Ann Benzon, Bellevue; Joan Benzon, Maple Valley; John and Jean Redmond, Yakima; and Mike Redmond, Federal Way; and a number of relatives in Norway. Lola Mae HOUSEL

Born October 18, 1910 in Cleghorn, Iowa, the old est daughter of Arthur E. and Lillian Mae Jef fery, died April 3, 2001, in Edmonds, Washing ton. Mother of Lenore (Lynne) Wailes, son-in-law Richard (Rusty). Grandmother of Lauren and her husband Phillip, Lynda, Richard and his wife Cami, and David and his wife Gretchen. Great grandmother of Jacob David and Savanna Roseanna Marie. Sister-in-law of Merle Housel and niece Marilyn Poyski. Aunt of Sherman Larsen and his wife Kim and their children, Judah and Daniel, Sid Larsen (deceased) and his son George, and Pam Larsen. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Lawson Housel, co-owner and manager of Rankin Drugstore, Burien and her sisters Wilma E. Thorne and Betty Jean Larsen. She attended Doane College and worked as a telephone operator and school teacher before marrying Lawson. In later years was with Headstart; and was a member of Lake Burien Presbyterian Church. The celebration will be held in the summer of 2001. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Cottage Lake Presbyterian Church Memorial Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 950, Woodinville, WA. 98072. Sharon Lee HUXFORD

Age 60, of Bothell, Washington died April 1, 2001 at 3:40 p.m. Sharon was born on December 5, 1940 in Everett, Washington. She graduated from Everett High School. Loving wife for 38 years; loving mother; daughter; sister and a great friend to all who knew her. She worked for Worthington Licensing for 13 years. Her work and her customers kept her going from day to day despite the debilitating effects of Lupus. Survivors include husband, William Huxford; sons: Jeffrey and Christopher; mother, Harriet Akers; sisters: Marilyn, Carlson, Tammy Miner and Kathy Flores; and two granddaughters: Molly and Abigail. She is preceded in death by father, Raymond Akers and brother John Akers. Memorial Services will be TODAY, Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA. Memorials may be made to The Lupus Foundation. Robert "Bob" INNES

Age 90, passed away on March 31, 2001. Bob was born on April 6, 1910, in Olivia, Minnesota to William and Henrietta Innes. Retiring to Birch Bay Village from Snoqualmie, Bob was in the banking industry from 1939 - 1980. He was active in the communities he lived serving on the school board in Snoqualmie and as treasurer for his church. He was a member of Kiwanis International, a 33rd degree Mason, Blaine's Senior Center and served on the Whatcom County Council for the Aging. Bob is survived by his daughters Barbara Innes of Seattle and Kae Kolkana (Dick) of Everett; sister Helen Gjullin of Fresno, CA.; grandchildren Cyndi Johannes of Kirkland, Chris Innes of Redmond; Tammy Caldwell of Marysville, Barb Johnston of Lake Stevens and Karen Taylor of Everett; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and son Jim. Graveside Services will be Friday, April 6, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Green Acres cemetery in Ferndale. Catherine Jane Kane JACOBSON

WHEN IRISH EYES ARE SMILING Catherine Jane Kane Jacobson was born in Gt. Falls, Montana on February 22, 1911. She was the last of six children born to Irish parents Martin and Delia Kane. Catherine died peacefully at Ida Culver House Broadview on April 6, 2001. Her husband of almost 62 years, Carl, and daughter and son-in-law Carleen and Russ Yates, all of Seattle, survives her. A brother-in-law, nieces and nephews and many loving friends also survive Catherine. A celebration of Catherine's 90th birthday was held at Ida Culver on February 22, 2001, where she was the star! There will be no memorial service. Memories may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association or a cancer organization of choice. (Obit dated 04/08/2001.)

Inez JEFFERSON

Inez JEFFERSON, 83, passed away in Seattle April 4, 2001. She was the beloved mother of Robert Earl Tillman, Edward Lewis Tillman, Jack Willus Tillman, and Charles Meredith Tillman; grandmother of twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; sister of Johnny Villasenor, Frank Villasenor, Raul Villasenor and Augustine Villasenor.
