Susan SVENDSGAARD

Susan SVENDSGAARD (a.k.a. Fitzpatrick, Pratt, Wilson) died on Thursday, March 29, 2001. The world lost a beautiful treasure, as she was one of the most loving, creative, funny and caring souls ever. Although small in stature, in the hearts of her family and friends she looms large. Throughout her life she inspired those around her to live their lives to the fullest, and to never ignore the gifts they had been given. Susan was a writer, musician, mother of seven, actor, director, producer, artist, adventurer, art gallery director and teacher. She taught art and music in the Berkeley Public Schools for several decades. Her open-minded respect for children, creativity and tenacity allowed her to achieve amazing results. She excelled in the area of troubled youth, and later in Special Education. After she retired, she taught piano and opened an art gallery. Under her "nom-de-plum", Vera Wilson, Susan collaborated on parades, plays, music and television productions. She also nurtured many visual artists, proudly displaying their work in the Taylor Fitzpatrick Gallery. Raised in Seattle, Susan loved nature; the feel of rain on her face, wind on her back and the surf at her feet. She often got into her van and just went wandering on another adventure from her Bay Area home. Susan was the daughter of Dudley and Virginia Pratt (stepmother Colette). Sister of Janna, Tuckie and Rick. Wife to Taylor (Arnold and James previously), close companion of Gray, and a friend to many. She was the mother of Eric, Arne, Tina, Chris, James, Chel and Heidi. Grandmother of Kantad, Dudley, Jason, Max, Kyler, Jane, Susie, Avery, Miles and Kiernan. Above all of this, perhaps because of this, perhaps just because she was Susan, she is loved and will be missed. Friends and family are invited to attend the ser vice at the Tower Chapel in the Mountain View cemetery at 5000 Piedmont Avenue at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2001.
