Roy O. BUMSTEAD, Jr.
Born January 10, 1929 in Bremerton, Washington and passed away June 6, 2001 in Kirkland, Washington. Roy was the owner of Roy O. Bumstead P.S.; an accounting firm in Seattle. Survivors include his son Kenneth and Sandra Bumstead of Bothell; stepchildren John, Michael, and Victoria Resner; grandchildren Tyler Bumstead, Jacob and Elisa Ross; mother Peggy Dupler; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Verna Walcott. Eleanor Leona (Gerbing) BURDUE
passed away peacefully after a long illness. She brightened the lives of her large family by her enveloping love and constant smiles. Eleanor was born in Barnesville, MN. January 7, 1915 to Warren and Nellie Reeves. She married
Emil J. Gerbing August 22, 1936 in Moor head, MN., where they lived until 1954 and then relocated to Seattle, WA. Emil Gerbing passed away April 16, 1967. Eleanor married
Jess Bur due December 15, 1972. They worked together at Alcove printing and retired to Edmonds, WA. Eleanor is survived by her husband, Jess; four daughters and one son: Barbara and Jim Wilkinson - Edmonds, WA., Sue and Ron Cancilla - Kenmore, WA., Marlys and Roger Shroyer - Kennewick, WA., Marilyn Christensen - Custer, WA., Douglas and Sue Gerbing - Lynnwood, WA.; three step-children, Kathy and Greg Mueller - Lynnwood, WA., Ann Davis - Everett, Ray Burdue - Snohomish; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sister, Irene Pronovost - Gig Harbor, WA.; and many loved nieces and nephews. Eleanor had a long and happy life. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all. A special thank you to those who cared for her at Aldercrest Health and Rehabilitation Center. A Memorial Service will be held at Edmonds United Methodist Church (located at 828 Caspers Street, Edmonds, WA.) on Friday, June 8, 2001 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to a favorite charity. Wendell "Windy" L. BURGESS
Wendell "Windy" L. BURGESS, 78, of Port Orchard, died June 1, 2001 in Tacoma. He was born June 24, 1922 in Lynden, WA. Windy married
Rozellen (Rose) Perelli on January 7, 1941, in Bellingham, WA. After serving in the U.S. Navy as a Radar Man, Windy owned and operated a gas station in Seattle, worked in landscaping, and served as a Park Ranger on Blake Island and Deception Pass. He then moved to Port Orchard. Windy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose, of Port Orchard; sons, Dr. Rockie Burgess, of Des Moines, and Bill Burgess, of Port Orchard; daughter Sandy Hutto, of Port Orchard; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 7, 1 p.m. at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. (Obit dated 06/06/2001.)
Harvey H. CAMPBELL, Jr.
Harvey H. Campbell, Jr., 76, of Bonney Lake, Washington, died March 2, 2001, in Reading Hospital, Reading, Pennsylvania. Born on August 26, 1924, in Denison, Texas, he was the son of the late Harvey H. Campbell, Sr., and Loretta L. Brown. From 1949-1974, he was married
to Delores J. (Aaron) Campbell of Topeka, Kansas. Campbell joined the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1941, served in the Aleutian Islands during WW II, was stationed in post-war Germany, and transferred to the U. S. Air Force in 1948. Most of his Air Force career was spent with the Strategic Air Command. He retired in 1966 as a Lt. Colonel. During 1966-2000, his employers included the Boeing Company, the Seattle Airport Hilton, and Riverwood Care Center (Puyallup). He owned and operated Campbell Rentals, a residential property management company. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy A. Wolfe of Reading, Pennsylvania and a son, Grant L. Campbell of Fort Collins, Colorado, as well as three grandchildren. Cremains will be interred in Fort Collins, Colorado, in a private ceremony. Contributions to the The Harvey H. Joan W. CARLSON
Beloved mother of Michael, Peter and Camisa, passed away on May 24, 2001. Born in Kirthwood, LA on June 29, 1926, Joan grew up in Conroe, Texas. Upon her marriage to Andrew J. Carlson, deceased, she made her home in Seattle, WA for over 40 years. For the past 11 years she resided on Bainbridge Island, WA with her daughter, Camisa. In the interim, she was founder and sole proprietor of Front Street Books, in Issaquah, WA for 7 years; taught reading and English as a second language through the Literacy Council, and lived for 2 years in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Her lifelong love of books and language and her deep regard for the natural world, coupled with her profound love of people, made her an especial friend to the many who crossed her path. Joan is survived by her sons, Michael Carlson of Seattle and Peter Carlson of San Francisco; her daughter, Camisa Carlson of Bainbridge Island and her brother, Charles V. Marjorie "Jerry" Mayo CASS
Age 93, was born July 5, 1907 to Jasper and Elthea Mayo in Seattle, WA. She passed away June 4, 2001 in Federal Way. "Jerry" was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Stephen B. Cass in 1983. She is survived by her sons: David M. Cass, Seattle, WA and Stephen B. Cass, Jr., Seatac, WA; a sister Phyllis Mayo Carson, San Diego, CA; grandchildren: James and Christina Cass and great grandchildren: Allen and Cari Braun. Jerry enjoyed solving word sleuth puzzles and sharing Reader's Digest anecdotes. She will be missed by her friends at Lakeshore Retirement, Rainier Golf and Country Club, Brighton Presbyterian Church, Seattle, and her sisters at Alpha Omicron Pi. Alexander Cilk, 92. Born April 11, 1909 in Walla Walla, died June 7, 2001. Survived by wife of 62 years Emma of Mount Vernon, son Delbert Cilk and his wife Anne of Burlington, brothers Fred Cilk of Downey, California, Harry Cilk of Sparks, Nevada, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. Alexander was predeceased by sisters Marie of Walla Walla, Martha Ackerman of Klamath Falls, Oregon, brothers Henry Cilk, of Red Bluff, California, George Cilk of Maywood, California, and Jake Cilk of Walla Walla. Alex or "Swiss" as his buddies called him, was proud of serving his country in WWII as a Master S in the Quarter Master Corps. of the famous 41st Division in the Battle for New Guinea. After the War, he worked as an Army Engineer in Walla Walla and later became Brewmaster or Pioneer Beer. Alex then moved to West Seattle and worked for Pac-Car in Renton as a Welder for 15 years until retirement. He then moved to Burlington. He always loved Skagit County. Alex loved flowers and gardening. His homes were a sight to be seen in the Summer. Fishing was also a love and he could often be found on the lakes, rivers and salt water of his beloved Northwest. Alex was truly one of the greatest generation. At Alex's request, there will be no services. Remembrances can be made to your favorite charity. Kenneth Jerome CLARK
passed away on June 1st at Swedish Hospital, where he had been born almost 87 years earlier. He was an 86 year resident of the Seattle Area and a 46 year resident of Mercer Island. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1932. He received his Bacheloriate Degree from the University of Washington in 1937 and The University of Washington School of Law in 1939. He served as a Major in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Ken was a corporate attorney for the National Bank of Commerce / Rainier Bank / Security Pacific Bank for 44 years, retiring as Vice President, Head Cashier and Secretary of the Marine Bancorporation. He was a long time member of The Seattle Yacht Club and The Washington Athletic Club. Ken was active in Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Mercer Island for over 46 years. Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, in 1983. He is survived by three married
sons; Kenneth Jr. (wife, Rita) of Spokane, Rexford (wife, Marabee) of Billings, Montana, and Bruce (wife, Sharon) of Spokane, a brother, Edward M. Clark of Roseville, California, 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 4400 86th Ave. S.E., Mercer Island, on Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave. N., on June 5, from 3-9 p.m. and on June 6, from 9 a.m. to Noon. Rebecca COHANIM
October 26, 1966 - June 2, 2001
Rebecca, a Seattle native, died suddenly and without warning on Saturday. Though her life was too short, she left an indelible mark on all who knew and loved her. Rebecca graduated from Yeshiva Or Hatzafon High School in Seattle and the University of California in Los Angeles. She was Co-president of the Madison Park Co-op Preschool and active in the McGilvra PTA. She was a friend to all and loved by many. Although Rebecca's time with us was devastatingly brief, she lived meaningfully and her kindness and compassion touched us all. Her proudest achievement was her family. Her devoted husband, Bobby Cohanim and their two beautiful daughters Sophia (6) and Emma (3). She is also survived by her loving parents, Bahram and Lee Cohanim and her brothers and their wives, Danny and Evelyn Cohanim and David and Melissa Cohanim. Mathias, Raquel, Hanna Devorah, Ezra and Natan Cohanim are her nieces and nephews who will miss their Auntie Becca terribly. Rebecca will live on in our hearts and through our good deeds. John H. CONNOLLY, 79, of Edmonds died June 3, 2001. Born in Sheridan, Wyoming May 29, 1922 to Joseph and Anna Connolly he was one of three children. They moved to the Seattle area in the late 1920s. John graduated from Ballard High School in 1941. He was a sales representative for ADCO Inc. Dry Cleaning supplies. Also a member of Lake City Elk's Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and an accomplished marksman. He is survived by four children: John Jr., Charles, Gail, and Patricia. One granddaughter, Isabella.
