Gilbert L. DUCKWORTH, Jr
Born September 13, 1921 in Sumner, Washington to Gilbert Duckworth Sr and Ella (Nettleton) Duckworth, and passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2001. Gilbert graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1939 and earned a bachelors degree in 1943 from Washington State University where he majored in music and education. He served in ROTC during his college years and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at WSU. In September 1943, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army, he served in Europe during WWII from June 1944 until April 1946. He remained in the US Army Reserve following WWII and retired as a colonel in September 1981. He began his pursuit of a degree in law at the University of Virginia and transferred to the University of Washington where he graduated in June 1950. He practiced law for 13 years until his election as a Renton District Court Judge in 1963. His career as a judge spanned 24 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Washington State Bar Assn. and King County Bar association where he remained active in meetings and reunions through 2001. Gilbert was a member of the Renton School Board, the Renton Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Elk Club, Eagles Club, and other civic organizations. A lifelong resident of Washington he loved to travel the country, making countless trips to the east coast. His love of history, geography, and scenic beauty left a legacy still enjoyed by his children and grandchildren. Gil Married Helen Ridings of Buena Vista, Virginia on March 1, 1946. They were married
47 years until her passing in 1994. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Suzy who died in infancy and his eldest son Bobby who passed away in 1997. He is survived by his children Virginia Vanderlin of Sumner, Rebecca Balcom of Auburn, Sandra Reimann of Buckley, and Tom Duckworth of Covington, 10 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving companion of five years, Dorothy Lewis of Sumner. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday June 9th at Greenwood Memorial Park, 350 Monroe Ave NE, Renton. (Obit dated 06/07/2001.)
Lucy Marie "Grace" DUNCAN
Born April 22, 1940, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2001. Grace was born to the union of Lemord & Dorothy Primus in Hammond, LA. The family moved to Seattle in 1952. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1959. She then graduated from Metropolitan Business College then went to work for the Federal Housing Authority, now HUD in 1962 from where she retired in 1995. After retirement, she served in the Seattle Public School District until she passed away. Lucy was preceded in death by her father Lemord Primus, stepfather Albert Wesley Loggins, mother Dorothy Loggins. She leaves to cherish her memory, devoted husband Daniel Duncan; beloved sister Deloris Roberts, two children, Tracy Marie and Shawn Michael Duncan and three grandchildren, all of Seattle, WA. Giannina (Jenny) DURHAM, 74, passed away on June 1, 2001. She was born on March 18, 1927 in Vicenza, Italy. Giannina is survived by her loving husband of 33 years Vic Durham; daughter Rosita Pellegrini; grand daughter Staci McLaughlin (Jim); great-grandchildren: Tanner, Ryli and Logan as well as many relatives abroad. She was preceded in death by her son Louie Albanese. 1921-2001
Bob peacefully passed away at home June 1, 2001. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Rosemary Annette, and their three children Nancy R. (David) Baldwin, Robert J. Elefson, and Valerie J. (Gregory) Nelson. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Mathew (Denise) Baldwin, Julie Baldwin, and Kristin Nelson. Bob was a member and past master (1966-1967) of Occidental Lodge #72, F.&A.M.;, a 33 degree Inspector General Honorary Scottish Rite Mason and a long time cast member of the play "Traitor", and a member of the Nile Shrine. Bob served 21 years in the U.S. Navy retiring as a Chief Quarter Master. He was a 50-year member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch #18. He retired from Coolidge Propeller Co. in 1985. Born June l6, 1925 in Spokane, WA., passed away May 30, 2001 in Seattle, WA. Dennis L. FITCH
Age 68, passed from this earth on May 31st 2001. Born to John M. and Dorothy M. Fitch on June 18, 1932, Dennis grew up in Nisqually, WA. with his sisters Joyce Turner (Jack) of Seattle, Lois Wywrot of Renton and brother James Fitch (Jackie) of Springfield, Missouri. Denny served in the U.S. Army in the early 50's and was dis charged in 1954. He attended WSU where he met his wife of 44 years, Barbara. They were married
in July, 1957, and raised five beloved daughters, Diana Marie, who preceded him in death in 1981, his daughter Linda Louise (Ian Gleadle) of Woodinville, Tracy Anne of Denver, Colorado, Denise Leone (David Baysden) of Puyallup and Cynthia Joy (Terran Moran) of Newcastle. Also surviving him are his five beloved grandchildren, David, Masen and Alyna Fitch and Nicole and Brian Gleadle. Denny retired from USWest in 1987 after 30 years of service. He was gregarious and caring, enjoying to the fullest his family and friends, always there to lend a hand. His happiest times were holidays with family, motor home trips, vacations to his property at Ocean Shores, working in his garden, and cheering on the Mariners. No words can say how much his wife and family loved him or how much they will miss his irascibility, humor, strength and support. Born April 29, 1927 in Lucas, South Dakota. passed away on June 4, 2001 in Sun City, Arizona. Howard graduated from North Central University. He served in the U.S. Army following WWII. He was an ordained minister for over 50 years serving churches in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington, and Oregon. He was an author of numerous articles and short stories. He was also a member of the Golden Aires Quartet. He is survived by his loving wife Helen of Sun City, AZ, Sons Howard E. Flaherty, Jr. of Santa Clarita, CA, David P. Flaherty of Nashville, TN, step daughter Nancy Cawston of Philadelphia, PA, step son Dr. Darrell Hobson of Kirkland, WA, Brothers Harvey Flaherty of FL, Ray and Wayne Flaherty of WI, and Leland Flaherty of CA, Sister Helen Briggs of WI, four grandchildren, five step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren. Private burial. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Temple, 6810 - 8th Ave. N.E., Seattle. Born in Portland, Oregon June 4, 1921 passed away quietly after a short hospital stay May 30, 2001. Bill was pre-deceased by Carol Floberg Easter Monday, April 16, 2001. He and Carol were married
for 57 years. Jill Floberg, Nancy Gillmor, (Brian), Paula Vernon (Glen) and five grandchildren remain. Bill was a life member in the following organizations: Veterans of Foreign Wars, Association of retired Seattle City employees, Rada Uphus Chapter #208 Order of the Eastern Star, Master mason with 40 years (+) card of Lafayette Lodge #241, Maple Valley Historical Society, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 32nd degree Mason, Grand Chapter Royal Arch University Chapter #32, Nile Temple AAONMS, past president of Nile Temple Greeters - 1983. Besides growing the best tomatoes in Seattle, Dad puttered and became the Rock of Gibraltar for Mom during her lengthy illness. Service to be held Monday, June 11, 2 p.m. at Nile Temple.
