Kathryn M. "Kathy" KAUFER
Went to her eternal reward on Saturday, June 2nd, from Evergreen Hospice Center to which she had been referred after suffering a debilitating stroke some ten days before. Kathy was born in Seattle on June 16, 1939, the youngest daughter of Mabel and Leonard Kaufer, Sr. (both deceased). She will always be remembered as a special and much beloved sister by Leonard J., Jr. and Connie Kaufer, Betty Anne and Francis L. "Bud" Johnson, John A. "Bud" and Mary Lou Kaufer, Philip M. and Beverly Kaufer, Mary Helen and Lee Sinclair, James W. Kaufer, Louis A. (deceased) and Betty Kaufer, Sister Monica L. Kaufer, Sarah J. "Sally" and Peter Bosserman, Theresa M. and Thomas Mahoney. She will also be lovingly remembered by all their children simply as "Kathy", a very special "auntie". In her younger years Kathy attended Northwest Industries Center, learned useful skills, and made many friends. After the death of her parents, Kathy lived for four years with her brother, Len, and his family on Saipan Island in the Western Pacific. She then returned to the Northwest where she lived in the home of her brother, Louis, and his wife, Betty, for the last sixteen years of her life. Kathy was accepted into and loved as a sister and auntie by Bettie Kaufer's wonderful extended family. She will be especially missed by Betty, Grandma Cook, Betty's mother, by all the grandchildren and by Louis and Betty's children and their spouses: Jim and Lisa Kaufer, Lisa and Mike Smithey, Greg and Valerie Kaufer, and Patrick and Lillian Kaufer. In spite of, or perhaps because of her so-called "disabilities", Kathy had a unique ability to give and to receive love. She spontaneously shared her love with all whom she knew, especially those near and dear to her. As her brother, Louis, said of her: "Kathy has a sweet spirit." Viewing and Visitation will be Thursday, June 7th, from 12 to 7 p.m. at Hoffner Fisher & Harvey Chapel (206) 632-0100. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 4400 - 130th Pl. S.E., Bellevue at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 8th. Burial will follow at Calvary cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests that anyone wishing to remember Kathy in a special way, offer a contribution to support the Evergreen Hospice Center (Evergreen Healthcare Foundation, 12910 Totem Lake Blvd., Kirkland, WA. 98034) where Kathy received gentle, loving and expert care in the last few days of her life.
