Howard Ernest ROTHENBUHLER
A lifetime resident of Acme, WA, and longtime Sedro-Woolley businessman passed away Tues day, June 2, 2001 at the United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley, WA, at the age of 83 years. He was born July 15, 1917 in Acme, WA, the son of Ernest and Irene Gorrie Rothenbuhler. Howard graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1933 and the University of Washington with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and while attending the University he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and R.O.T.C. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force after college and married
Janet Douglass Thompson in February of 1941 in El Paso, TX. In 1946, Howard founded Rothenbuhler Engineering, an internationally known company with headquarters in Sedro-Woolley, WA, and a branch office in Vancouver, Canada. He developed the "Talkie Tooter", an electronic signaling device that helped make logging a safer industry. In 1986, he was awarded a State Safety Award from the Governor and the State of Washington. He was a licensed professional engineer and one of a few "Radio" Engineers. Howard was a member of the Sedro-Woolley Rotary Club since 1954 and was a past President from 1970-71. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, and boating. He lost his wife Janet who passed away on August 31, 1997 and he continued working at Rothenbuhler Engineering until suffering a stroke in November of 1999. Howard is remembered by his children as a loving, very determined, inventive, and energetic person to whom family was very important. He is survived by his close companion Pat Thompson of Mount Vernon, WA., his children Julia and her husband Al Reed of Lake Stevens, WA., Dan Rothenbuhler and his wife Mary of Boise, ID., Ellen O'Hern of Ballard, WA. and Neal and his wife Marsha of Acme, WA. A sister Myrtle Johnson of Ballard, WA. 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Private Graveside Services will be held Friday, June 8, 2001 at the Saxon cemetery in Acme, WA. followed at 3 p.m. by an Open House at the Rothenbuhler home at 5456 Rothenbuhler Rd. in Acme, WA. Born on 7/28/27, passed away May 30, 2001. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Maureen, daughter and son-in-law, Tatina and Terry, six grandchildren, Daniel, Jamie, Ryan, Christopher, Anna and Kari. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank and son Darrell. Family services will be held at BON NEY-WATSON, Washington Memorial Park, SeaTac. Dianne M. SCHUTT
Dianne M. SCHUTT, 56, of Seattle, left us peacefully the morning of June 5th, 2001. Born in Portland, OR, March 20, 1945 to Jerreld and Marie Newquist, she was the oldest of 6 children. They moved to Seattle in her teen years. Dianne graduated from West Seattle High in 1963. Her friendship and talents will be missed by the many lives she has touched, from her early years costuming church plays, to her active role in local politics, to her longest most loved venture of community event planning. She spent many years with West Seattle Hi-Yu helping create fun family events. Her talents then stretched out to the White Center community who asked for her help creating the same quality of family events. She is survived by husband Martin; children Susann Gillern, Jeffrey Schutt, & Teresa Koback; her precious grandchildren who she loved dearly - Shawn, Riley, Lindsey Dianne, Cameron, & Nicholas; her mother Marie Newquist; and her brothers and sisters; Bonnie, Shirley, Jerry, Randy, and Ron. She is also survived by her proudest accomplishment the 10th Anniversary Classic Hot Rod & Car Show on Alki July 28th. This will be the first year without her present. Funeral services will be Friday June 8th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4001 44th Ave. S.W. in West Seattle. Jean Hutchins SCOTT
Jean was born October 26, 1924 in Devils Lake, North Dakota, but came with her family to the Seattle area as an infant and spent her life as a Seattle and Bellevue resident. passed away Thursday June 7, 2001. Loving wife of William N. Scott with whom she has spent the last 56 years. Survived also by her children Bill Scott, Jr., Deborah Needham and Kate Davis; her brother Wesley "Bud" Hutchins; and seven cherished grandchildren. Jean will be remembered by her family and friends for her truly kind, caring, generous, and compassionate nature. Her soul has permanently and positively touched the lives of all with whom she has come into contact. George R. SHASKY
George R. Shasky, of Lake Stevens, died June 5, 2001 at the age of 83. He lived a wonderful life filled with family, gardening, Husky and Notre Dame football, and church. George grew up in Seattle, raised his family in Edmonds and Bellevue, and retired to Lake Stevens. He is survived by wife, Florence; children, Linda Knutsen, Chris Bacigalupi, Marti Harruff, Frank Shasky; and sister, Helen Vangel; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul and Lake Stevens' Medic 1. Visitation will be Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bauer Funeral Chapel, and Saturday at St. Michael's prior to Service time. Raymond F. SIEVERS
passed away May 27, 2001 peacefully after a stroke. He was born 7/21/24 and was 76 years old. He is survived by eight children: James Sievers, Ian Sievers, Gwen Sievers, Rebecca Sievers, Jennifer Sievers, Linden Sievers, Claire Erickson and Lisa Sievers; 13 grand children; one great-grandchild; sister Lyndea Dew; and cousin Faye Hagemeyer. As a member of the Signal Corps in WWII, Ray was notably the U.S. Army Photographer at the Nurenburg Trials. During the Korean War he served as a Dentist. Dr. Sievers raised his large family in Redmond, and his home on Lake Washington. He had an inventive nature and was a creative builder. Ray loved boating, fishing and hiking. He traveled the world and the spirit of adventure stayed with him to the end. This wonderful man was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at BONNEY-WATSON, Parker Chapel in Burien on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 11:30 am. and Interment

Declan SMITH
Of Seattle, WA. formerly of Massachusetts, died suddenly June 1, 2001 at his office in Federal Way, WA. He is survived by his wife of 11 years Nancy Smith (formerly Gibbons) and many friends. Mr. Smith was born April 2, 1951 in Chelsea and grew up in Revere. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in December 1986 with two bachelor's degrees. One degree was in psychology which led him to earn his Masters in Social Work from Boston University in 1990. Among other professional positions he held in the Boston area, Mr. Smith directed the Next Step Social Club at the Eric Lindemann Mental Health Center from 1987-1989. He had also been awarded a certificate of appreciation from the Somerville Homeless Coalition. In the Seattle area, Mr. Smith worked in private practice as a psychologist, specializing in group and individual psychotherapy. He was a member of the National Academy of Certified Social Workers. He loved jazz and played tenor saxophone while also writing music. He had performed music at the Unitarian Universalist Church and at the Jazz Cafe both in Kent, WA. as well as in other performance sites around Seattle and Boston. Earnestine SMITH, 92, passed away May 31, 2001 in Seattle. She was born January 12, 1909 in Kirbyville, TX, the daughter of Louis and Nicey (McDaniel) Williams. Earnestine is survived by daughters Annie R. Samuel and Bobbie Jo Samuel; sons Frank Johnson and his wife Wilhemina, and Louis Johnson and his wife Geneva; daughter Josephine Johnson-Calhoun and her husband Meshach; also, three step-sons Jerome, Ethard M. Jr., and Raymond Smith; nephews, Robert T. and Clyde Williams whom she raised; and a host of other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Ethard M. Smith; daughter Dora L. Rawls; and son Freddie Johnson. Visitation will begin Thursday, from 12-8 pm and continue on Friday from 8 am-8 pm at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle.
