Alys M. RODAL

Alys M. RODAL, 36, passed away June 20, 2001 at her home. Alys is survived by her husband David; daughters Amanda and Sarah, and son Ryan; parents Gary and Donna Bondahl; nephew Seth, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Alys was preceded in death by her brother Brian Bondahl last year. Visitation will be held Today from 3 to 7 p.m. with Funeral Services Saturday at 10 a.m. both at Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. (Obit dated 06/22/2001.)

Herbert I. ROSEN
March 1, 1922- June 19, 2001

Herb Rosen died peacefully Tuesday evening June 19 surrounded by his wife and children. Herb adored his family, his community and his country. The youngest child of Albert and Bessy Rosen, brother of Ben, Al and Debby, Herb was a Seattle native. He attended Garfield high school and the University of Washington. During World War II, he served as lieutenant in the United States Army stationed in France. After the war, Herb returned home to work in the family business, Durabelt Luggage. In 1947 he married Rita Feuerberg from Vancouver, B. C. They have a son, Stan Rosen (and daughter-in-law Michele) and a daughter Judy de Jonge (and son-in-law Krijn) and five grandchildren, Saskia and Anneka de Jonge, and Mimi, Leslie and Jack Rosen. Herb left his mark on the Seattle business community. He co-founded Consolidated Distributors Inc (CDI) which was sold to ABC Records in 1965. Later Herb combined his love for business and fish and chips to found Skipper's Incorporated, a regional fast-food seafood chain. Skipper's Inc. grew to over 200 stores and was sold later to National Pizza Incorporated. Herb could never retire and remained active in Rosen-Harbottle Commercial Real Estate and Rosen Commercial Properties. Blessed with prosperity and nine lives, Herb understood the importance of giving back to the community. He served as president of the Stroum Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, as well as the Jewish Education Council. He was instrumen tal in the growth of the Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle, the Jewish Family Services and the Bellevue Art Museum. Herb will be missed by his best friend and brother-in-law Al Feuerberg, by his many nephews and nieces, and other people he touched with his advice, generosity and kindness. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 21, Noon at Herzl Ner Tamid Synagogue, 3700 East Mercer Way, Mercer Island. Burial will follow at Herzl Memorial Park. Donations in memory of Herb can be made to Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle, Bellevue, WA, and the Seattle Jewish Community School, Seattle, Wa. (Obit dated 06/21/2001.)

Dwight Edgar ROSSITER

Of Edmonds, WA., passed away January 24, 2001 from age-related causes. Born on June 3, 1912 in Randolph, Iowa to William Henry Rossiter and Ethel May Berkheimer, he was 88 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lillian Jean Rossiter. They spent many years traveling together while he served in the U.S. Navy for 33 years. He had tours of duty in Pearl Harbor, Guam, Vietnam and Sand Point Naval Air Station in Seattle. He retired as a Lt. Commander in 1966 and shortly thereafter, they moved into their custom-built home in Edmonds. Until a few short years, Dwight and Jean spent endless hours tending their beautifully manicured yard and garden from which they received great satisfaction sharing her roses and his vegetables with their neighbors and friends. He enjoyed woodworking, telling stories, visiting, and inventing things. One of his accomplishments in the U.S. Navy was his development of an improved diving helmet. Dwight is survived by his sisters and a brother, Lois Frost of Burns, OR. Vera Moreland of Clackamas, OR. and Austin Rossiter of Sutherlin, OR., and 10 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Darrel Rossiter. No services at his request. Interment icon will be at the Columbarium at Restlawn Memorial Park at 23500 - 104th Avenue West, Edmonds, WA. Arrangements by Beck's Funeral Home, Edmonds, WA. (Obit dated 06/19/2001.)

Ada ROWAN

Born May 29, l9l4 passed away June 21, 2001 Seattle Wash. She is survived by her brothers Norman (Donna) Sarchin and Theodore Sarchin. Graveside Services were held June 22, 200l. (Obit dated 06/23/2001.)

Kenneth E. RUFF

Age 57. Born September 7, 1943 in Apache, OK; passed away June 10, 2001 in Seattle, WA. A US Navy veteran, Kenneth was also a licensed medical radiographer for over 31 years and was an active member of ASRT, ARRT and WSRT. During his free time, he would enjoy fishing, hiking and pursuing his interest in foreign languages. Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Anna, of 24 years; son, Brian Ruff; daughter, Christina Miller; stepdaughters, Lori Choruby and Lisa Prieto; brother, Hubert Ruff Jr.; sister, JoAnne Walls and 12 grandchildren. Funeral service was held on June 15th at the Evergreen-Washelli chapel with Pastor David Foster officiating. Interment icon was held at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent, WA. with Military Honors. Remembrances may be made in his name to the Veteran's Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, Voluntary Service, 1660 S. Columbian Way, Seattle, WA. 98108.

Bert Allen SAMUELSON

Age 81, born January 3, 1920 in Bath, New York. passed away June 18, 2001 in Lynnwood, WA. Survived by his wife Mary Samuelson; daughter Joan (Bill) Birch; son Bob (Joan) Samuelson; grandchildren David (Sarah), John (Jana) and James Samuelson; great granddaughters Raelene and Talia Samuelson and brother Roy W. Allen. Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 22, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Maple Park Lutheran Brethren, 17620 60th Ave., Lynnwood, WA. Arrangements by EVERGREEN-WASHELLI (Obit dated 06/20/2001.)

A.R. SCHENDEL

Albert Robert (Al) Schendel passed away on June 8, 2001. He was born on November 28, 1921 in Tacoma, WA. He graduated from Lincoln High School, and then attended U.W. Mr. Schendel married Joan Reed on June 18, 1953. They were later divorced but remained good friends through his remaining years. Mr. Schendel was an entrepreneur. He had many businesses throughout his lifetime, most recently was Joanal Cosmetics, Inc. A daughter, Lori D. Kauffman of Bothell, a son Michael S. Schendel of Seattle survives Mr. Schendel. His long time companion in life, Audrie Grove also survives him. Many nieces, nephews and cousins remain and will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Ray and sisters, Iris Braun, and Ruby Patterson. At Mr. Schendel's wishes, there will be no funer al services. (Obit dated 06/18/2001.)

Mary Mandalee SCOTT

Born October 4, 1924 in Noonan, N.D. to Oscar and Pearl Lindstrom. Mary left to be with our Lord on June 16, 2001. Survived by sons, Dave (Evie), Dennis (Sharon), and Dick (Mavis) and daughter Valerie (Gary) Tollefsen. Special niece Karen Sondheim and special nephews Dan Comstock (Margaret), Bryan Sondheim (Jan); nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mary's family was her life and she with husband of 30 years, Robert raised their children to be independent thinkers just like her. She delighted in the stories of their childhood and kept their baby pictures on her wall where ever she lived. Mary was a deeply compassionate person. She was always there for anyone who needed her. She was a source of guidance and support to all those who found their way to her home. Many a time she invited family members to share her house while their lives were in transition. This was never a time of judgement as far as Mary was concerned. Once they had their feet on the ground they were off to begin again and sometimes even return. Mary took great delight in her working years at Boeing Co. and Fabricators. She was loved and respected by her co-workers, having received commendations for her excellent work at both companies. Mary's family wishes to extend their thanks to Dr. Thom Smith for his compassion and care during her illness. Many thanks are also expressed to the caring staff of Queen Anne Manor for their assistance and guidance given to Mary during her stay there. Memorial Service 7 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 6701 30th Ave. S.W., Seattle, WA. 98126. The memorial service will be casual. Remembrances may be given in Mary Scott's name to the Union Gospel Mission, Seattle. (Obit dated 06/22/2001.)

Harold (Hal) Oldfield SIMMONS

Born in Little Hulton, England, January 2, 1922 to Reginald and Ethel Simmons. Resided in Seattle, WA. at the age of 4 until his death June 8, 2001. Was a member of the 41st Infantry Division as he served in the Second World War in the South Pacific from the age of 19 to 25 years of age. Was employed with the Carnation Fresh Milk Co. for 37 years and retired at age 57. Hal enjoyed fishing, golf, cribbage and cards with his family and friends. Also enjoyed traveling. He is survived by his wife Norma of 42 years, sons Dean Simmons of Berkeley, CA., Michael Simmons and Wife Peggy of Seattle, WA., his daughter Tami Miller and husband Brian of Anchorage, AK., four grandchildren, one great- grandchild and many step-grandchildren. Predeceased by his son Larry and daughter Vickey. A private Military Graveside Service will be held at Washington Memorial Park. A Memorial Service and Reception will be held for friends and family at the Burien Elks Lodge #2143, 14006 - First Ave. South on Thursday, June 21, 2001 at 2 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Group Health Hospice c/o Group Health Foundation, Metropolitan Park E. #1520, 1730 - Minor Avenue, Seattle, WA. 98101. Christel G. SKOROBOHATY

Of Shoreline, born December 19, 1928 in Germany, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Score; her daughter Rosemary Cochran and husband Wes Cochran; daughters Marguerite Moyet and Ingrid Skorobohaty; and beloved grandsons Gavin and Colin Cochran.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, June 19, at 1:30 p.m., at Bethel Lutheran Church of Shoreline, 17418 - 8th Avenue N.E., Shoreline, WA. (Obit dated 06/18/2001.)

Franklin P. SLACK

Born November 11, 1922 in Alberquerque, New Mexico.
passed away June 20, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. Lifetime member of VFW and DAV.
Survived by his wife Lillian Slack; and step children Kitty Scofield, Les Scofield, Betty (Andy) DiMattia, Ruth Cagle, and Karen Lewis.
