Clarence Arthur SVENDSEN

preceded in death by his wife Olive in 1993. Survived by his children Robert A. Svendsen, Christine (Spike) Schwald, and Julie O. Schmidt; his grandchildren: Karen (Greg) Parker, Barbara (Doug) Seeger, Arthur Svendsen, Erik (Calico) Svendsen, Greta Steinhebbel, Arne Svendsen, Marit Schmidt, and Kari Schmidt; his great-grandchildren: Katy, Christi, Annadele, Kayleigh, Anders, Megan, and Amanda; as well as numerous other family members in Washington and Norway. Clarence was a member of Leif Erikson Lodge Sons of Norway for 76 years, Norwegian Male Chorus for over 50 years, Norwegian Commercial Club for 45 years and Past President of all. He worked at Fisheries Supply Co. 62 years, in 1934 he worked at a whaling station in Akutan, Alaska. He'd say 'Let's have a party, ' and was happiest when surrounded with music, friends, and family. He loved to play his harmonica and that's how he met his wife Olive at Norway Hall - she played piano. They enjoyed their cabin and fishing together at Norway park. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, 6/29/01, at Leif Erikson Lodge Sons of Norway, 2245 NW 57th in Ballard. Memorials suggested to Norse Home. Margaret 'Peggy' Elizabeth SWEDELIUS
Age 78, born October 3, 1922 in Seattle, Washington. passed away June 18, 2001. Survived by her husband Lawrence Swedelius; daughter Lynda Eck; son Dave Swedelius; grandchildren David and Bobby Swedelius, Chelsey, Amanda and Tiffany Eck. Her ever-present smile, and love of life, brought joy to all who met her. Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 25, 2001 2 p.m. at Boulevard Park Presbyterian Church, 1822 S. 128th Seattle. Joseph Lee THIEL 72, of Dunnellon, Florida, died Monday, June 18, 2001. Moved to Florida from Seattle, Washing ton. He was a retired Customer Service Manager with Princeton Packaging Company for 35 years. He is survived by a wife, Joyce Marie Thiel, eight children, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and two brothers. He was preceded in death by a son. (Obit dated 06/23/2001.)
Michael Glenn THOMAS
Born in Los Angeles on April 30, 1963 and lifetime resident of the Highline area, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at age 38. Mike was a full-time employee of BECU while maintaining a 4.0 GPA at City University in computer science. He was preceded in death by his father and his sister Suzie, and he is survived by his loving mother Bobbie of Federal Way and nephew Joshua Shenefelt of Spokane. Mike served the military in a distinguished manner as a Cavalry Scout with the US Army at the time of the Gulf War. A memorial service will be held Monday June 25th at 1:00 p.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 15880 Military Road S. in Seatac. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Union Gospel Mission's Riverton Place, 3020 S 128th St. Seattle 98168. Richard E. THORNTON, M.D.
(Age 68) J.P. Beaumont's personal physician passed away on June 12, 2001, in Pullman while he listened to Willie Nelson. He is survived by his mother Naomi Thornton Cochran; two brothers, John and Timothy Thornton and two sisters: Aleta Hubbard and Penny Thornton; three sons: John, Rick and Rex, daughter Joan Evoy; five grandchildren: Zachary, Tara, Lacey, Jessica and Whittney; and two grand-dogs: Scout and Bandit. Born in Seattle in 1932, Dr. T. loved wine, song, reading, woodworking, sailing and flying, but not in that order. As a writer he took extreme pride in his poetry. He was especially fond of the word "Callipygous", which appears in every piece of his writing. He read the dictionary daily, making it to "attapulgite." He enjoyed trips through the North Cascades on horseback with his friends and sailing in the San Juan Islands. Richard was a highly regarded and skilled orthopedic surgeon. He introduced the specialty to the Bellevue area. He was an inspiring teacher and ever eager to share his knowledge with colleagues and younger surgeons. Dr. T. could play the scales on the trumpet and one song on the piano. Much loved and often maligned, Dr. T. will be truly missed. Johnny L. TILLMAN
Left to be with our Lord on June 21, 2001. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on Feb. 22, 1937 in McDougal, Ark., eldest surviving son of Carl and Bertha Tillman. After spending his youth in Arkansas and Florida, he went on to join the U.S. Navy and was eventually stationed at Bremerton, WA. Since that time, he had made Seattle his home, wintering in recent years in Scottsdale, AZ. This devoted husband, caring brother, wonderful father and proud grandfather is survived by his loving wife, Carmen; daughter Paula (and son-in-law, Bob); daughter, Teri (and partner, Mike); son Christopher (and daughter- in-law, Linda); son, John; daughter Carlene (and son-in-law, Jeff) and their three children, beloved granddaughters, Kayla, Amanda and Meagan. He is also survived by brothers, Bud, Jack and Bill and "sis" June. He was a friend to many and friendly to all. he will be greatly missed. Services will be held on Tues., June 26th at 1:30 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. Visitation will be on Mon., June 25th from Noon to 7 p.m.

Ret. Capt. USNR James (Jim) Van den Biesen, son of Jack and Esther Van den Biesen was born in Hysham, Montana April 7, 1929. He died June 20, 2001 in his home in Edmonds, WA. Gus Vander Pol on November 24, 1936. They were married
for 46 years. She was a caring and loving wife and mother and a great baker, too. She volunteered at World Concern for many years. She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Paul (Loretta) Vander Pol, Beatrice (Michael) McGervey, Diane (Merwyn) Haveman, Stan (Thelma) Vander Pol, Cynthia (Jim) Buys, Mary (Dan) Whitney; 22 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and sisters, Inza Taron and Gertrude Winn. She was predeceased by her husband and sister, Bertha Boon. Special thanks to all her caregivers at Evergreen Place. We praise God for our christian mother.
