Dorothy Rae (Hammarlund) BLAYLOCK
What can I say? Our Mother, Wife, Sister, Aunt, and Good Friend left us on 17 September, 2001. She went in the early morning, about the time she would have normally gotten up. We will miss her. Dot was a doting wife, an incredible mom, and as good a friend as there has ever been. She brought sunshine, warmth, and laughter to those lucky enough to have known her. Whether at the morning coffee klatches of the '60s, the many, many birthday luncheons she so loved to host, or the lavish dinner parties she enjoyed throwing, Dot did it with her own unique sense of style and grace. Holidays were very special to Dot. She always held some sort of celebration. Halloween, July 4th, Labor Day, they got almost as much attention and feasting as Thanksgiving and Christmas. And each occasion was filled with laughter and the wonderful gourmet meals Dot loved preparing and serving. What can I say? Dot golfed. Boy did she golf. And her capacity for fun brought a whole new group of great friends she met golfing. They golfed sometimes 3 or 4 times a week. They took golf weeks in Chelan, where they golfed as many golf courses as they could find (and hit the casino once or twice too). They had golf luncheons, golf birthday parties, and golf banquets, and they laughed. There can be no greater tribute to a life than to leave it with so many truly devoted friends. It speaks volumes about Dorothy that until the very last she was surrounded not only by her family but also by her oldest and newest friends. They visited with her and they took loving care of her. What can I say? The love and the strength of all those friends helped us all in this difficult time. The family would like to offer very special thanks to Bev, Phil, Jackie, and Shirley. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Blaylock, and her daughters LeeRae Blaylock (Bill Seguin), Darsie Kent (Gale), her grandchildren Lindsey and Johnathan Kent, sisters Donna Doyle, and Phyllis Gjertsen, and brother Bud Hammarlund. preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mildred Hammarlund, brother Norton Hammarlund, and sister Maxine Dunn. Private services have been held. Please, no flowers. Make any donations to The Life Care Center of Auburn. (Obit dated 10/03/2001.)
