Laureen C. JOHNSTON
Laureen C. JOHNSTON, 62, a 27-year Wenatchee resident and community activist, passed away at her home Tuesday morning, September 25, 2001. Laureen was born on January 10, 1939 in Seattle, a daughter to Laurance Leroy and Zilda Katherine (Deebach) Fisco. She was raised in Seattle, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1957. She continued her education attending The University of Washington, although she later came to be a loyal Washington State Cougar fan. On July 14, 1974, she was married
to Richard E. Johnston in Seattle. Later that same year the couple chose to re-locate to Wenatchee where Laureen worked for J.C. Penney. Richard and Laureen were proud residents of Wenatchee, where they raised three children and made a substantial impact on the community. Laureen's role in life was defined by her passion to give of herself for the benefit of others. She was a former longtime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Seattle, she was also a leader and lifetime member of Rainbow Scouts Troop #281 in Seattle, a group that continued to meet together for 49 years. In Wenatchee, she served as a Board Member for Campfire Girls and Big Brothers - Big Sisters, as well as serving as the Chairperson for the United Way. She had a love for the outdoors, working in her garden and spending summer vacations at Vashon Island camping with her grandchildren. She also loved sending a timely note or a card to a friend or family member. But it was with her grandchildren where Laureen had the most impact. Gammi's smile, strength and enduring patience will be sorely missed, but will not be forgotten. She is survived by her husband, Richard Johnston, at home; two sons, Jeff Hollingsworth and Kevin Hollingsworth; one daughter, Wendi Pennington; one sister, Patricia Riddell; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Reid, Nikki, Katelyn, Cassandra, Corrine and Paul Michael.
