Mabel Tribbett MOSIER
Born April 3, 1919. passed away peacefully on September 24, 2001. Mabel Ive Tribbett was born at her family's wind-swept homestead on the open, tall-grass prairies near Ardmore, South Dakota. They moved to Crawford, Nebraska when she was nine, and she graduated from high school there in 1936. She moved gradually West, first living in Idaho, then Oregon, and finally settling in Seattle with her husband Lewis Joseph Mosier in 1949. They made their permanent home there with their daughters Judith and Ellen and a long succession of Pets, mostly cats, but also including dogs, turtles, and a chameleon. Mabel had a rich and passionate life, her love of all living things burning brightly within her. She was deeply devoted to her husband, and was a fierce mother bear for her children. She took everyone under her wing, be it an elderly homebound friend, her daughters' friends who needed a place to go, a stray cat, a wounded bird. Mabel was a connoisseur of wit and funny herself. She and Lewis could make one another laugh throughout their 56 years of marriage. They survived Lewis's nearly three-year absence during W.W. II, and never forgot the blessing of being together. Mabel lived a life of service that included being a Girl Scout leader, PTA President, Women's Fellowship leader at her church, and a delegate to a gubernatorial election campaign. She was also very playful, and especially loved the beach at Hood Canal. She loved to swim there, gather oysters and clams, and she made blackberry pies with the best crust in the West. Although Mabel suffered many great losses in her life, she remained strong until the death of her husband in 1996, when in spite of her broken heart she began a valiant battle against Alzheimer's disease. She prevailed against this relentless force for nearly six years, and passed away with dignity at her home at Crista Senior Community. Her granddaughter says, "Grandpa Lew and Bah are together forever now." Mabel is survived by her daughters; son-in-law David Hatfield; granddaughter Taylor Rose Mosier Hatfield; nieces and nephews Raff, Rod, Robin, Carol, Sandra, Gina, Janet, Terry, Rick, Bruce, Del, Keith, Barbara, Lee, John, Lyle, and their spouses and children; many loving friends, and her beloved cat Little Blew.
