September 9, 2001 - September 26, 2001

Beloved daughter of Erin Gahan and Adam Watkins, cherished granddaughter of Pam Gahan, Gary Gahan, Lissa Watkins, Sam and Susan Watkins, precious niece to Davis and Nikki Fretwell, Jacob Gahan, Angelle Garinger and Aimee Watkins. Dear great granddaughter to Dale and Joanne Lynch, Shirley Stockton and Helen Watkins. Madison, you are a beautiful angel, gone too soon. Thank you for coming into our lives, and bringing us joy. Martha (Marty) Lazarus WEIDEN

Born in Washington, D.C. on July 27, 1944, passed away peacefully at home on Mercer Island on September 28, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Paul; son, David and daughter-in-law, Angela, of Palo Alto, CA.; daughter, Wendy, of San Francisco, CA.; brother, Simon Lazarus of Washington, D.C.; sister, Helen Freeman of London, England; sister, Elizabeth Stanley of Bethesda, MD.; and mother, Harriet Lazarus of Cincinnati, OH. and many friends throughout Seattle and the rest of the country. Marty attended Smith College, Northampton, MA. where she majored in American Studies and further developed her enjoyment of literature, history, and art. she graduated in 1966 and went on to obtain a Master of Arts in Teaching at Columbia University, NY., later teaching English and history in high schools in New York and Bethesda, MD. After an initial blind date with Paul in 1967, Marty announced to her mother that this was the man she was going to marry, and indeed they wed in 1969, settling in Bethesda and then moving to Seattle in 1971. As soon as her children were born, Marty became an active volunteer in their activities and schools, first on Mercer Island and then at Lakeside School in Seattle. She traveled extensively throughout her life and enjoyed destinations both near and far, visiting friends, museums, art galleries and shops with equal pleasure. Interment icon is private, but a Celebration of Life/Memorial Service will be held in the Lakeside School Chapel at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2001. William Edward "Ed" WEST

passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2001 at the Burton Care Center in Burlington, WA. at the age of 82 years. Ed was born February 19, 1919 in Yakima, WA. the oldest of 12 children born of Clarence and Alice Smith West. During WWII, Ed served as a Staff Sergeant with the U. S. Army Air Force as an airplane crew chief serving with the 12th Air Force Thunderbolt Fighter Group. After the war, Ed worked as a carpenter residing in the Lynnwood and Sultan areas of Snohomish County for many years and for the past ten years he has resided in Burlington. Ed was a member and past Commander of VFW Post #1040 in Lynnwood, a member of VFW Post #2554 in Sultan and VFW Post #933 in Burlington. He also was a member of the Cooties and Eagles in Monroe. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and telling stories. Ed was married to Theo Gene Coates in Seattle in 1952 and she preceded him in death in 1986. He is survived by three daughters Janet West of Sedro-Woolley, Judy Frost of Snohomish, and Sandy Tudor and her husband Darrell of Kent. Stepson Larry Zachariason and his wife Marilyn of Seattle. Nine grandchildren, Amy Yates, Michael Yates, William Yates, Connie Johnson, Shawn Lucas, Danny Frost, T.J. Onley, Anne Zachariason, and Donny Zachariason. Five great grandchildren, Amber Yates, Ashley Yates, Bryonna Yates, Justin Yates, and Chase John son. Four brothers, Harry West and his wife Viola of Spokane, Robert West and his wife Jennifer of Sequim, Paul West and his wife Judy of Woodinville, and Jerry and his wife Anne of Bo thell. Three sisters, Louise Witt of Grass Valley, CA., Thelma Chance of Silverton, OR., and Florence Munnell of American Canyon, CA. Numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a son William, and four brothers Rev. Howard West, Stanley West, Donald West, and Herbert West. Graveside Services will be Monday, October 1, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Sultan cemetery in Sultan, WA. with Military Honors provided by George Baldridge Post #43 American Legion of Sedro-Woolley. Arrangements and Services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. (Obit dated 09/28/2001.)

Thomas F. WHEALY

Age 80, died at his Port Hadlock, WA. home on September 30, 2001. Born Sept. 8, 1921 in Col man, S.D. Raised in Seattle and graduated from West Seattle High in 1939. Served in U.S. Navy WWI, married Wanda Burris on November 17, 1945. Survivors include wife, Wanda, son, James T. Whealy, daughter Paula (Patrick) Gallagher; grandchildren Matthew J. and Melissa A. Gallagher. Memorial Service 2 p.m. at Kosec Funeral Home in Port Townsend, recep tion following Port Townsend Elks Lodge. Inurnment, Tahoma National cemetery, Kent. Memorial contributions in Tom's name may be sent to P.T. Elks Lodge #317, 555 Otto St., Port Townsend, WA. 98368.

Norma A. WHITE

Born September 15, 1923. passed away peace fully on September 24, 2001. She was born in Seattle, Washington and lived in Ballard all of her life. She is survived by her husband, Robert K. White, brother, Calvin Nerdrum. niece, Susan Cochran, nephew, Paul Nerdrum, niece, Nancy Quinn and many cousins and dear friends. Norma attended Ballard High School and was class representative for the "Golden Beavers" alumni group. She also attended the Univ. of Washington and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She worked at the Naval B.O.Q. as a banquet hostess. There she met her husband Bob White. Bob and Norma were married 48 years and enjoyed many happy days with wonderful friends and family. They were active U of W alumni and never missed a Husky game. She was also a co-owner of Salmon Bay Sand & Gravel Company in Seattle. Norma loved all animals and showed great compassion towards them in supporting their many charities. Norma is a sponsor of the Jane Goodall Foundation and a strong supporter of PAWS. Services will be held on Saturday, September 29th, 2001 at WIGGEN & SONS FUNERAL HOME 2003 N.W. 57th Street, Seattle, Services begin at 2 p.m. Memorials can be sent to your local PAWS centers or to the Red Cross relief Fund- USA. Capt. Richard L. WHITLEY

passed away at home in Bellingham on Saturday September 29, 2001 at the age of 57 in the company and comfort of his loving daughter. Over the past four decades Dick's life as a merchant mariner took him around the world. He captained tug boats in the Middle and Far East, in the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas, to South America, through the Panama Canal and along the Nile river. Most recently he was sailing the waters of Alaska for Crowley Maritime. He is survived by his son Daryl and wife Greta, his daughter Lisa and partner Beth, his brother Lew and wife Dee, sister Faye, sister Sandra and husband Zane, nephews Tim, Dan, Mike, Scot, Ted, James and Eric, nieces Trish, Robin and Lori, dear friends Bing and wife Karen, Tina, Terry and wife Jennifer, Gary and wife Joanie. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 6th, at Salty's on Alki in the Alki Room at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Whatcom Hospice, 600 Birchwood Ave., Bellingham, WA. 98225.

Mary Christina WILLIAMS

passed away Saturday, September 22, 2001 at the Kelsey Creek Senior Home in Bellevue, WA. at the age of 82 years. She was born January 26, 1919 in Calexico, California the daughter of Jose and Concepcion Flores Dominguez y Cobas. She was a resident of the San Diego, CA. area until 1945 when she moved to Seattle and resided there for many years until moving to Bellevue eight years ago. Mary was married to Paul A. Williams in October of 1945 in San Diego and he preceded her in death in 1969. She owned and op erated a millinery store in San Diego making hats until moving to Seattle where she was a homemaker and later worked as a nurses aide in home health care. Mary attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Seattle. She is survived by a son Paul Williams, M.D. and his wife Gina of Mount Vernon, WA., and a daughter Paula Treneer of Seattle; three grandchildren, Paul and his wife Bernie Ann Williams of Vancouver, WA., Jule and his wife Romy Treneer of Seattle, and Ally son and her husband Santos Bazan of Germany; two great grandchildren, Madeline Treneer of Seattle and Brenden Williams of Vancouver, WA.; two sisters, Camille and her husband Red Burleson of St. Petersburg, Florida and Con stance Shin of Vallejo, CA. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, October 5, 2001 at 12:15 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon with Father William Treacy as Celebrant. Inurnment will be at Holyrood cemetery in Seattle at 2:30 p.m. Me morials suggested to Washington State Alzheimers Association. Tormod Axel WOLD

Born April 9, 1912 in Milwaukee, WI. Passed on September 27, 2001 in Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; son, Bob; brother, Arnie; and sisters, Hjordis Supplee and Thelma Waters. Tormod was a loving uncle to Louellen McCoy, Sue Supplee, and Steve Supplee. He will be missed by special friends, Sue Kingry & Bill Stone and hosts of friends and neighbors. Tormod's family would like to thank Randi Harper and Mary Brown for their loving care and friendship. Tormod enjoyed his career with Boeing from the early 1920s until his retirement on May 1, 1974. Tormod was active with the Shriners and a 50-year member of the Mason Lodge. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed singing with the Norwegian Men's Choir. He had a great sense of humor and loved life. Tormod will be missed by many but his spirit remains in our hearts. Memorial Friday, October 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 6701 - 30th Ave. S.W., Seattle. Doreen G, WYLIE
January 1, 1934 - September 23, 2001

Born in Port Townsend, Doreen began a career mid-life as an activity therapist caring for the elderly in nursing homes. She began raising Great Dane show dogs in 1970 and was an active member in the Great Dane Clubs in Kansas City, Houston and then Western Washington. Doreen was know as a wonderful cook and a warm hostess with a great sense of humor. She is survived by her second husband of twenty-two years, James (Bill) Wylie, and sons, John Ready, David Ready, James Ready, Daniel Ready, granddaughters Alicia Ready and Sara Ready, sister Marlyn Fields and brother Arch Carpenter. Doreen is predeceased by her first husband, John Ready. (Obit dated 09/30/2001.)
