Kathryn Mary Becker COLLINS
Of Kirkland, born July 12, 1925 to Mike and Jesse Becker in Portland, Oregon, died November 6, 2001. preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry Allen Becker, she was the last remaining member of her immediate family. Except for brief residences in Spokane and Kodiak, Alaska, she lived in Seattle where she worked in real estate until her retirement in 1990. Those who knew her as beloved friend, mentor, or adviser, cherished her for her energy, her unfailing sense of humor, her generous and gracious ways. She loved entertaining friends, golfing, whale watching in Alaska and bird watching in Juanita Bay Park. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gourmet cooking, the plays of Shakespeare, and football, most recently the Denver Broncos. An artist as well as art collector, she particularly admired the paintings of Mark Tobey and Morris Graves. We cannot summarize her or her life anymore than we can lessen our feelings of loss and grief. We can only remember with love and gratitude her dear, vital, irreplaceable self--her discriminating appreciation of beauty in art and in life, her love of the natural world, her delight in and compassion for animals, her many gifts of happiness and joy she gave to others. Above all, we are awed by her rare courage and astounding strength in fighting a cruel disease and the suffering it brought, and by her steadfastness and serenity even unto the end. With her pilgrim soul, she has shown us the way. At her request, there will be no public service. Memorials to Progressive Animal Welfare (PAWS), the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice are suggested. (Obit dated 11/14/2001.)
