Janis Kathleen Fortin LUNDSTROM
Born February 23, 1946 in Tacoma, WA., passed away November 6, 2000 in Seattle, WA.
Janis is survived by her parents Harry Fortin, Rae (Leo) Furback, children Jeff (Amy) Lundstrom, Jennifer (Bill) Hedlund; grandchildren Olivia Lundstrom, Billy Hedlund, and brother Gregg (Suzie) Fortin.
Visitation is Friday 1 to 4:30 p.m. at West Home Funeral Chapel, 4400 California Ave. S.W.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2000, 3 p.m. at West Side Presbyterian Church, 3601 California Ave. S.W.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, 728 134th St. S.W., #101, Everett, WA. 98204.

Jack D. MACKENROTH
Cared for with tenderness and surrounded by love; the Captain of our Team and our most inspirational player died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 84, October 28, 2000, of cancer.
Jack Mackenroth was born in Minot, North Dakota on June 29, 1916.
He was the youngest of five children.
An outstanding high school athlete at Minot High, he continued his athletic career at the University of North Dakota where he played football and twice was an All North Conference Selection.
After graduation from UND, he signed and played with the Detroit Lions in 1938.
His playing years were cut short by a knee injury but he continued his interest in football going back to Minot High as head football coach.
His second year there, his team won the state championship.
From 1943 - 1946, Jack served in the Marine Corps, 1st Division and was stationed in the South Pacific and China.
After his discharge he and his wife, Phyllis, moved to the Pacific Northwest where he continued his career in athletics.
He coached at Auburn High School and eventually ended up at Highline High School as the head football coach.
His 1953 team won the Puget Sound League Championship.
That same year, Jack became the Athletic Director for the Highline School District.
He worked in that position until 1976 when he retired.
During his tenure with Highline he saw one high school/junior high grow to a junior college, five high schools, nine junior highs and 46 elementary schools.
He was responsible for: all the athletic programs in all schools and was instrumental in a planned physical education program (elementary through high school), the development of girls' athletic programs, the inception of an outdoor education program at Camp Waskowitz for every 5th grader in the school district, the pioneering of Gym Kamp, the first gymnastics camp in the Pacific Northwest, and the building of a multi-purpose, multi-school central stadium facility at Highline.
Jack has been honored on the state and national level for his many contributions to athletics.
He was inducted into the Minot High School Hall of Fame, the Highline High School Hall of Fame and the University of North Dakota for outstanding athletics and distinguished service.
He served on the Executive Board of the National Council of Athletic Directors from 1970-74.
He was the Washington Secondary School Athletic Administration Association Athletic Director of the Year 1974-75 and he received the Outstanding Athletic Director of Washington in 1976.
He was one of six nominees for the national award in 1976.
In 1987 he was inducted into the Washington State Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.
Jack believed in the basic philosophy of interscholastic athletics.
He believed that sports are the great equalizer and that on any given day anyone can be the victor.
He honored good sportsmanship on the playing field and off.
He lived his life with integrity. He was modest and always gave the other person the credit.
He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
Jack was loved and respected by many people from every walk of life as coach, mentor, friend.
Although athletics was his career focus, that was only part of his life.
He could fix anything, enjoyed woodworking, golf, walking, travel, watching his grandchildren grow, his place on Homestead Golf Course with Anita, and generally "kibitzing" with people.
Family was the most important thing in Jack's life.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Phyllis, in 1989.
He will be forever missed by his devoted partner of 10 years, Anita Brown, his two daughters, Connie Mackenroth and Susan Mackenroth Dickson and her husband Bob, six grandchildren whom he adored, Jack, Sarah, Adam, Pamela and her husband Chris, Matthew and Timothy, his brother Tom and family and many extended family members and friends. Jack, Dad, Grandpa and Papa we will remember your humor, your wisdom, your sense of justice and fair play in all things and your warm heart.
You are our hero.
Thank you to all the many health care professionals that accompanied all of us on this journey and especially Swedish Home Hospice and Chris, our wonderful hospice nurse.
A Memorial Service will be held November 11, 2000, Veteran's Day, at 2 p.m., in the chapel at Bellevue First Presbyterian Church, 1717 Bellevue Way, Bellevue, Washington.
A reception at the church will follow the service.
Memorials to Jack are kindly received at Highline High School, 225 South 152nd, Burien, Washington, the Jack Mackenroth Football Scholarship Fund for the player each year who has worked the hardest to support his team. (Obit dated 11/05/2000.)

Kolbjorg P. MADSEN
passed away quietly at home Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000.
She was born Kolbjorg Pauline Eian in Roan, Norway, March 29, 1937. Kolbjorg, "Kay", immigrated to the U.S. in 1956.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Mona, and is survived by her husband John; children Roy and Heidi; four grandchildren; six brothers; two sisters; and numerous extended family members in the U.S., Norway, and Denmark.
A Memorial Celebration Service is scheduled for Sat., Nov. 11, at 3 p.m. at First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach, Shoreline, Wa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church building fund or the N.W. Cancer Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle, Wa.

Vance Harrell MAPLES
Vance Harrell MAPLES 70, longtime Kent, WA. resident, died November 7, 2000.
Born October 29, 1930 in Elk City, OK., he served in the U.S. Air Force, graduated from the University of Washington School of Electrical Engineering in 1957, and retired from Boeing in 1991.
Vance will always be remembered by his infectious grin and unique whistle.
His good nature, humor, courage, and faith were evident to all who knew him.
He collected and refurbished Corvairs, and enjoyed sailing, windsurfing, and running.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret "Nancy", sons Vance of Largo, FL. and Neel of Kent, WA., daughters Terrie Maples and Joan Johnstone of Bothell, WA., Sandra Liddle of Kent, WA., Debra Strauss of Ventura, CA. and Brenda Russie of Richland, WA., brothers Charles of Camas, WA. and Joseph of Portland, OR., sisters Sallie Heer of Brownsville, TX. and Frankie Jones of Portland, OR. and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral Service Monday, 11/13, 1 p.m. at Columbia View Wesleyan Church, Portland, OR., followed by burial at Lincoln cemetery, Portland.
Memorial Service Tuesday, 11/14, 2 p.m. at Lakeview Free Methodist Church, Seattle.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Lakeview FM Church "Capital Fund" or the Alzheimer's Assn.

Eugene G. MARTENSON
An "Everyday Hero" Eugene G. Martenson was called home at sunset Friday, November 3, 2000 to revel in heaven's fishing grounds.
Enjoying a fulfilling and rewarding life Gene attained all his life goals and his retirement years were full of fun.
He was born September 9th, 1924 and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Gene was a Navy fighter pilot in the 1940's and later a member of Naval Reserve Attack Squadron VA892 at Sand Point.
Gene attended the University of Minnesota and graduated from the University of Washington School of Architecture in 1953.
He soon after established his own practice in Kirkland, completing work over the entire Northwest and Alaska.
Gene was active in AIA activities, the King County Arts Commission helping establish the 1% for the Arts and served on the City of Kirkland Planning Commission for 9 years.
He was very involved in the arts in Kirkland, helping create the Cellar Gallery, the Creative Arts League and the Kirkland Arts Center.
Gene was active in Kiwanis, DECA, young peoples church groups, Little League and had a lifelong passion for flying, fishing and foraging of shellfish.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty, his son Christian and wife Leah, son Eric and wife Deborah, daughter Jan and grandchildren, Alexander, Thomas, Michelle, Matthew, Emily and Claire.
Remembrances can be made in Gene's name to The Kirkland Arts Center, 620 Market Street, Kirkland, Wa. 98033.

Dominic A. MASTRO
Age 93 of Des Moines, died November 4, 2000.
preceded in death his wife of 67 years, Dorothy M. Mastro.
Beloved father of Donald (Cherie) and Jerry (Stephanie) Mastro and Diane (James) Cloutier.
Also survived by numerous grand children and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at BONNEY-WATSON, Washington Memorial, 16445 Pacific Highway South, SeaTac.

David Richard MAURICE
Age 65. Born November 16, 1934.
Died November 1, 2000 at home.
Survived by Doris, his wife of 44 years; son, David Daniel Maurice; three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Caldwell and husband Mike, Dianne Jordan and husband Doug, and Darla Maurice Peterson; nine grandchildren, Kurt, Michael, Ashley, James, Angelena, Anna, Dawna, Joshua, and Taylor; four great grandchildren, Patience, Andrea, Abigayle, and Hunter.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Tukwila on Nov. 8, 2000 at 11 a.m.
