Payne KARR
Beloved family man, attorney, and civic leader passed peacefully away on Tuesday, October 2nd, 200l. He was born on February 15, 1909. University of Washington '29, Sigma Nu Fraternity; George Washington Law School '31; Order of the Coif; founder of Karr, Tuttle & Campbell law firm; active in many organizations some of which were: Seattle Transit Commission; President of Seattle Chamber of Commerce; President of Washington State Bar Association; President of the International Association of Defense Counsel; American College of Trial Lawyers; admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Susan Fitch Karr and 4 children - Susan Karr Kuebler, Robert Karr, William Karr and Cynthia Karr Feerick, and 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bainbridge Island Public Library at 1270 Madison Ave. N. or any charity of your choice. Beloved wife, mother and civic leader passed peacefully away to join her husband of 68 years, Payne Karr, on Thursday, November 8th, 2001. She was born on January 13, 1909. University of Washington '29, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Mortar Board, Secretary of ASUW; a Travel Agent for 40 years and active in many organizations, some of which were: Founder and Board Member of Associated Republican Women; Pro America Board; Delegate to Freedom Foundation; Founder and first Chairman of the Boyer Children's Clinic; Secretary of World Affairs Council; Founder and first President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce Wives Club; Member of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade. preceded in death last month by Payne, her husband of 68 years, Susan is survived by 4 children: Susan (Karr) and Robert Kuebler and Robert and Judy Karr, of Bainbridge Island, William and Eileen Karr of San Juan Island, and Cynthia (Karr) and Richard Feerick of Charlotte, N.C., and 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bainbridge Island Public Library, Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, The Puget Sound Environmental Learning Center, all on Bainbridge Island, or to any charity of your choice. Christine E. KAUFMAN
The travel industry of the northwest, lost one of their finest in the passing of Christine E. Kaufman, president of Manlove Travel. Chris was born in West Seattle, February 22, 1940 to Phyllis and Wilson P. Thurston and passed away after a struggle with cancer, November 10, 2001. The travel industry knew Chris from her position as Northwest President of ASTA, her directorship of WESTA and her membership both in SKAL and SWIT. Her contributions to the travel industry will be a tough act to follow. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the South Whidbey Volunteer Fireman Association, P.O. Nicholas I. KING
Born June 7, 1943 in San Francisco and died at home in Seattle on October 30, 2001, after a determined struggle with liver cancer. He attended Holy Rosary and Seattle Prep, graduated from West Seattle High School in 1961, and Central Washington University in 1979. Retired from Yellow Freight Systems in 1999 after 23 years where he made many friends who knew that his rough, tough Teamster exterior covered a soft heart and warm soul. Nick will be greatly missed by his wife of 13 years, Sandy; daughter Stacy; father Harry; sisters Deborah and Renae, brother Dennis; sister-in-law Cindy, brothers-in-law Gary and Rod; and mother-in-law Phyllis. His absence will also be felt by the Rosts: Myra, Cammy, Rachelle, Raye and their families. Family and friends will remember his booming laugh, dry sense of humor and his love for music, history, science fiction, travel, books, computers and his "kids", Henry and Pootie. A Memorial Service for Nick will be held Saturday, November 17th at 1 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 8316 - 39th Ave. S.W. in West Seattle. Remembrances in his name may be made to the Peace Lutheran Memorial Fund.
Jack H. KINNEY
Born September 20, 1914 and passed away November 10, 2001 in Kirkland. He is survived by his wife, Helen Kinney; son, Francis Kinney and wife Cathy; daughter, Phyllis Osborn and husband Mark; stepdaughter, Kathy Sorensen; brother, Bob Kinney; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be at 12 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2001 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 6701 - 30th Ave. S.W., Seattle. Robert (Bob) KIVI
Born December 19, 1951 and passed away Nov. 10, 2001 at the age of 49. preceded in death by his loving parents, Carl & Laura Kivi. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 28 years, Cheryl Kivi; daughter, Jennifer (Kivi) Lasky; son, Donnie Lasky; granddaughters, Jessica, Samantha and Aundre' Lasky and his sisters and brothers: Barbara Kivi, Mike Morrison, Wayne Patterson, Terry Patterson, Laura Johnson and Alan Johnson. Bob's education included Coe Elementary, Worth McClure, Queen Anne High School and Seattle Central Community College. He was an employee of Schuck's Auto Supply for 25 years. Wendy Pamela KLEE
IN MEMORIAM Dr. Wendy Pamela Klee, M.D., of Palo Alto, California, died on 11 October 2001. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul J. Wehrenberg, and her children, Eric Paul and Kirsten Michelle Wehrenberg-Klee, all of Palo Alto, by her parents, Victor L. and Elizabeth Bliss Klee, and her sisters, Barbara Christine, Susan Lisette, and Heidi Elizabeth Klee, all of Seattle. Wendy was born on 12 November 1947 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her early years were spent there and in Princeton, Los Angeles, and Seattle, where she graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1965. After attending Pomona College for two years, she transferred to the University of Washington, receiving her B.A. degree in Russian, cum laud, in 1969. She married
Paul, then a graduate student in Physics, in 1970. After graduate study in Slavic Linguistics (supported by a competitive National Science Foundation fellowship), Wendy decided to pursue a career in medicine. She entered the UW Medical School in 1974, received her M.D. degree in 1978, and then served her internship and residency at the Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco. She continued her Internal Medicine practice as a member of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Santa Clara and then in Milpi tas until 1999, when her final illness began. She was very devoted to her family and to her patients. (Obit dated 11/11/2001.)
John Michael KLOECK
Born September 24, 1909, in Chicago and died in Seattle November 7, 2001, at the age of 92. John was the first laboratory director at Group Health Cooperative, remained in that position until his retirement, and at his death was the last of the original staff members. He attended De Paul and Loyola Universities and spent two years in a tuberculosis sanitorium as a young man, losing his father and two sisters to the disease. In 1937 he married
Lois Shaw and they moved to Seattle in 1944. John was a pillar of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, serving on the parish council, ushering and attending Mass and the Rosary for many years. He loved his big, noisy family, and extended it to include many, many friends who came to dinner at the house in North Capitol Hill where he held court at the head of the table. He loved to tell stories of Chicago in the '20s, was a prolific writer of poetry, admired Northwest art, shared a passion for the outdoors and opera, and enjoyed a good champagne. He was a devout Catholic and was singularly devoted to his wife of 64 years until the day he died. In addition to his wife Lois, he is survived by children John Kloeck, Jr. and wife, Jane; Jean Baumgartner and husband, Dean; Philip Kloeck and wife, Karen; Theresa Morrow and husband, Bill Ristow; and Christopher Kloeck and wife, Jan. His 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren will remember his kindness and love of life. A Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, and Funeral Mass is Monday, 10 a.m., both at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Seattle. He will be interred at Holyrood cemetery. Jean KNUTZEN
Jean Knutzen, age 92, former Burlington resident, died Saturday, November 3, 2001 in Seattle. Born October 18, 1909 at Curlew, Washington, she was a daughter of Michael & Sara (Case) O'Brien. As an elementary school teach er, she taught at Goldbar, Seattle and Olympia, retiring in 1969. Family and friends will remember her for her sharp wit, quick mind, her love of poetry and birds, and her chocolate chip cookies. Survivors include her daughter, Marjorie Olson of Olympia; her son and daughter-in- law, Dr. George P. and Karen Knutzen of Seattle; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ralph; two brothers; and one sister. Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at Burlington Lutheran Church, 134 East Victoria Avenue, Burlington. Private Interment

Beth Ann KOEHLER
Born July 29, 1962 in Seattle, Beth passed away Nov. 8, 2001 in Redmond. Upon graduation from Capitol High School in Olympia and the University of Denver, she worked in admissions at sev eral colleges, including Edmonds Community College. A gentle wife and mother afflicted by a terrible illness, Beth is survived by friends and family who loved her very much. Alvin Agee KURTZ
Age 94, died November 12, 2001. He was born on December 30, 1906 in Salem, Oregon to Elijah and Rose Kurtz. He graduated from Willamette University in 1929 with a degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence. In 1933, he married
Virginia D. Beall of Salem, Oregon. He practiced law in McMinnville and Salem, Oregon before becoming an Administrative Law Judge with the Federal Power Commission in Washington, D.C. He was one of the first judges to consider the impact of his decisions on the environment. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of the Masonic Lodge for 70 years. Survived by his wife of 68 years who resides in Bellevue, Washington, daughters Jan Cook of Ft. Myers, Florida and Judith Suor of Bellevue, Washington, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
