Evelyn Sullivan
Evelyn C. Sullivan, 80, of Port Orchard died of natural causes March 28, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born July 3, 1918, in Hanson, Mass., to James and Silby (Brown) Conway. She was raised and educated in Hanson, Mass., graduating from Whitman High School in 1936.
On Oct. 29, 1939, she married
James Elliot Sullivan. He preceded her in death in 1986.
She was a member of the Village Green Ladies Club, the Yuma Municipal Golf Club and the Telephone Pioneers Association.
Survivors include two sons, Michael of South Bend, Ind., and Peter of Wareham, Mass.; a daughter, Karen Maag of Port Orchard; two brothers, James of Whitman, Mass., and Donald of Hanson; a sister, Ruth Pluta of Lake Worth, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A private service will be conducted at St. Gabriel Church. Inurnment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Ruth Lutz-Lofgren
Ruth Gudron Lutz-Lofgren, 83, of Bremerton died March 29, 1999, in Seattle.
She was born Nov. 24, 1915, in Circle, Mont., to Knute and Gudrun (Jorgensen) Boyum. She was raised and educated in Circle, graduating from Circle High School in 1934. She later graduated from Concordia College in Morehead, Minn., in 1938.
On June 26, 1993, she married
Walter Lofgren at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Mrs. Lutz-Lofgren was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, the Elks, the Senior Bowling League and the Retired Teachers of Spokane.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Vicki Lutz Murray of Allyn; and two brothers, Arthur of Nashua, Mont., and Hans of Circle. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Lutz.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. April 8, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, with a reception immediately following at the Sons of Norway Hall in Bremerton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
John Watson
John "Jack" C. Watson, 76, of Silverdale died March 29, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Van Buren, Ark., to Len and Hazel (Brewer) Watson. He moved to Seattle at a young age.
Mr. Watson served in the Merchant Marine from 1945 to 1948 aboard vessels transporting supplies to Australia. He was the owner and operator of a photography studio in Poulsbo during the 1940s and 1950s, and was a wedding photographer on the Kitsap Peninsula for more than 30 years.
He also worked for 12 years as a photographer for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1972.
He was an active member of the Pogie Club of Bremerton.
Survivors include his companion, Vopal McKinney of Poulsbo; a daughter, Linda Grover of Olympia; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Shawn, Celeste, Justin, Thor, Sol and Marcy Grover, all of Olympia; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Watson, in 1992.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with a reception immediately following, both at The Stone Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Pogie Club of Bremerton.
Vetsa Reynolds
Vetsa Jeanette Reynolds, 84, a lifetime resident of Gig Harbor and the surrounding area, died March 27, 1999.
Mrs. Reynolds owned and operated the Point Defiance Gift Shop, retiring in 1977.
She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church and the Beach Comber Garden Club.
Survivors include two sons, Buz and Pat, both of Gig Harbor; two sisters, Veronica Covach of Tacoma and Patty Harrell of Illwaco; six grandchildren, Andy, Jennifer, Kelly-Jo, Jeff, Casey and Scott; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, in 1978 and a son, Jeff, in 1972.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Haven of Rest Chapel.
Interment will be at Haven of Rest Memorial Park.

Donelda Johnson
Longtime Bremerton resident Donelda "Donna" E. Johnson, 60, died March 28, 1999, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
She was a retired transcriptionist with the Veterans Administration.
Survivors include her longtime companion, Norman J. Magnussen of Bremerton; two sons, Curtis Robison of Bremerton and Carey Robison of Oxnard, Calif.; a daughter, Debra Robison Huff of Las Vegas; a sister, Dorothy Cokelet of Bremerton; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Reece of Las Vegas and Katie Robison of Oxnard.
A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Bremerton Group KBRO Building on 11th and Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Society Northwest of Lynnwood.
Memorials may be made in her name to the American Lung Association.
Mildred Griffin
Mildred C. Griffin, 89, of Port Orchard died March 30, 1999, at the Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born July 8, 1909, in Toledo, Ohio, to Frank and Ida May (Woods) Georgia. She was raised in Toledo and Laramie, Wyo.
On Dec. 20, 1926, she married
William W. Griffin in Santa Ana, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Griffin worked as a sales representative with McKeresson & Robins Drug Co. in Los Angeles from 1942 to 1945 and was a Red Cross volunteer in Korea from 1962 to 1964. She also was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret C. Adams of Port Orchard; three grandchildren, Linda Legault, William Glen Kelso and Kathryn Payne, all of Bellingham; four stepgrandchildren, Carleton Adams of Port Orchard, Carl Adams of Bellingham, Deborah Okeefe of Bremerton and Michael Adams of Tacoma; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rill Chapel.

Helen Collinson
Helen Davis Collinson, 86, of Bremerton died March 29, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 15, 1912, in Minot, N.D., to Carlton and Margaretha Davis. She was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1929. She later graduated from Minot State Teachers College in 1941, and did graduate work at the University of Washington.
On Aug. 30, 1931, she married
Leslie Collinson in Minot. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Collinson worked for 30 years as a teacher and librarian, five years in North Dakota, one year in Alabama, seven years in Tennessee and 17 years in the Bremerton School District, most recently as a librarian at Naval Avenue Elementary School. She retired in 1974.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teachers educational sorority, two retired teachers organizations and the First United Methodist Church of Bremerton. She volunteered as a senior health insurance adviser in church and school libraries.
Survivors include a son, David of Bremerton; five grandchildren, Aaron Gay of Newport, Ore., Sylvie Gay of Monmouth, Ore., Judi Hees of Boynton Beach, Fla., Kim LaBlanc of Ghana, Africa, and Kelly Hees of Paradise, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Collinson Gay.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 700 Callahan Drive, Bremerton.

Alyce Mekalsen
Alyce Adora (Schechert) Mekalsen, 80, of Poulsbo died March 28, 1999, at Lake Ridge Care Center in Moses Lake.
She was born April 22, 1918, in Vinland to Paul and Dorothea (Miner) Schechert. She was raised in Vinland and graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1936.
On June 9, 1939, she married
Peter J. Mekalsen at her parents' home in Vinland. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Mekalsen was a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Suquamish and was a member of the church choir for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne of Kingston and Douglas of Poulsbo; a daughter, Donna Postma of Royal City; a sister, Irene Date of Quilcene; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Suquamish Church of Christ.

Edith Hoffman
Edith Hoffman, 89, of Port Orchard died May 24, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 2, 1909, to Charles and Carmella (DeSocio) Ross in Forsythe, Mont. She was raised in Forsythe and graduated from Forsythe High School in 1927.
On Nov. 21, 1939, she married
Donnel Hoffman in Rosebud, Mont.
Mrs. Hoffman worked with her husband on their commercial fishing boat in Alaska for more than 30 years.
She is survived by a son, Donnel R. of Olalla; a sister, Lucia Miller of Port Orchard; three grandchildren, Richard of Gig Harbor, Diann Haglund of Port Orchard and Donnel E. of Olalla; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979 and her daughter, Linda.
A private service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.
