Bill Hughes
Former Bremerton resident William Wallace "Bill" Hughes, 58, died May 17, 1999, in Keizer, Ore., of cancer.
He was born Jan. 3, 1941, in Wayne County, Neb., to Wallace and Ruth Hughes. He graduated from H.H. Hahn High School in Wayne County in 1958.
He served in the Navy as a radarman aboard USS Kearsarge for four years. He was a reservist for two years.
He married
Lynda White at First Baptist Church in Bremerton in 1964. He worked with Sears for 10 years in Bremerton and Redmond.
The couple then lived in Chicago, Ill., and Southern California before moving to Salem, Ore., in 1981.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David and Daniel, both of Salem; two daughters, Deborah and Deanna, both of Keizer; his parents, Wallace and Ruth Hughes of Silverdale; a brother, James of Los Alamitos, Calif.; a sister, Barbara Dappen of Lincoln, Neb.; and two grandchildren.
A service was held Saturday at Willamette Christian Fellowship in Salem. Private interment was in the Willamette National cemetery in Portland.
Arrangements are under the direction of City View Funeral Home and cemetery in Salem.
Violet Dale
Violet I. Dale, 86, of Bremerton died May 23, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 9, 1912, in Pony, Mont., to Emma (Ramer) and Jacob Leib. She grew up in Pony, graduating from Pony High School and from Central Washington College in Ellensburg.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway, Order of the Eastern Star Reliance Chapter 70, the Ladies Elks and the Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, in 1976. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Evenson of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Kay Hurlbert of Great Falls, Mont.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. June 4 at First Christian Church in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Geraldine Kortman
Geraldine E. Kortman, 74, of Bremerton died May 19, 1999.
She was born Jan. 10, 1925.
Survivors include three sons, Harvey, Gene and William; and two daughters, Bonnie and Kay.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel. A rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Winifred Evans
Winifred Pauline Evans, 86, of Bremerton died May 23, 1999, at Sunrise at Oyster Bay Care Center in Bremerton.
She was born June 22, 1912, in Colorado. She had worked as a nurse's aide.
She married
Walter O. Evans. He preceded her in death in 1975.
She moved to Bremerton from Yuciapia, Calif., in 1998.
She is survived by her brother, Paul Snyder of Bremerton.
Private interment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Lisa Miller
Former Kitsap County resident Lisa Renee (Jenkins) Miller, 32, of Winnemucca, Nev., died May 10, 1999, in Winnemucca.
She was born July 8, 1966, in Bremerton to Nancy Lee Paulacios and Henry Leland Jenkins. She grew up in Kitsap County, attending Seabeck Elementary School and Central Kitsap Junior High School. She finished high school in California.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher Payne of California and Dylan Smith of Montana; her father and stepmother, Henry Leland and Judy Jenkins of Crosby; her mother, Nancy Lee Paulacios of Bellingham; a brother, David A. Jenkins of Bremerton; a sister, Dana Ammirata of Bellingham; her paternal grandmother, Carrie Jenkins of Crosby; and her maternal grandmother, Treva Speer of Roseburg, Ore.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Crosby Chapel.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Amelia Bianchi
Amelia Bianchi, 86, of Poulsbo died May 22, 1999, in Poulsbo of a cerebral hemorrhage.
She was born July 26, 1912, in Fort William, Manitoba, Canada. She grew up in Chicago, Ill.
She married
Clyde J. Bianchi on Dec. 16, 1933, in Crown Point, Ind. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Southwest Art League, the Evergreen Art League and the Burbank Art League, all in Illinois.
She is survived by two sons, Richard C. Bianchi of Lemont, Ill., and Robert J. Bianchi of Woodridge, Ill.; a daughter, Joyce Bianchi of Poulsbo; six grandchildren, Laura Harris and David Bianchi, both of Lockport, Ill., Katie Bianchi of Lemont, Ill., and Amy, Jillian and Ali Bianchi, all of Woodridge; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today at Lawn Funeral Home in Burbank. Funeral services will be Thursday, also at Lawn Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Beverly cemetery in Blue Island, Ill. Arrangements are under the direction of Lawn Funeral Home and Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Edna Pinnick
Edna Pinnick, 89, a Kitsap County resident for 40 years, died May 24, 1999.
She was born Oct. 14, 1909. She was a member of Bethel Grange and the Christian Science Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther; a daughter, JoAnne; and two sons, Luther Dean Jr. and Billy Gene Pinnick.
Survivors include three brothers, Donald M. Mack, Daniel V. Mack and Vernon L. Mack; a sister, Nellie Anson; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Gig Harbor. Arrangements are under the direction of Haven of Rest Funeral Home.
Darlene Ghaffari
Darlene P. Ghaffari, 68, of Bremerton died May 19, 1999, in Bremerton of cancer.
She was born Aug. 12, 1930, in Dundee, Minn., to Walter and Leone (Knott) Peterson. She grew up in Dundee.
She was a member of the YMCA and the Peapatch Garden Club.
Survivors include her mother, Leona Peterson of Port Orchard; a son, Hans Ghaffari of Bremerton; a daughter, Cynthia Ghaffari of San Francisco; a brother, Robert Peterson of Port Orchard; and a sister, Kay Rose of Alexandria, Va.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Grace Purdum
Grace Burgess Purdum, 94, of Bremerton died May 23, 1999, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Sept. 8, 1904, in Saint Andrew, Jamaica, to Brooks C. and May (Schar-schmidt) Bicknell. She grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, later moving to Port Angeles where she attended secondary school.
She married
Alva Burgess on Jan. 9, 1925, in Port Angeles. They moved to Bremerton in 1942. Mr. Burgess preceded her in death on April 15, 1968.
She married
Art Purdum on Feb. 5, 1976. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1982.
She worked for a number of years as a sales clerk at the original Bremer's Department Store. She was a member of the World War I Ladies Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, the Mother Singers and the Manette Community Church.
Survivors include a son, Robert M. Burgess of Bremerton; a sister, Hazel Brock of Edmonds; seven grandchildren, Don of Dickerson, Md., Andy of Roseburg, Ore., Jana of Spokane, Tom of Taipei, Taiwan, Scott of Mountain Home, Idaho, Mark of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kim of Fairbanks, Alaska; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Noel and Ray; a sister, Patricia; and a grandson, Timothy.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. June 1 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

Royce Thornburg
Royce Walter Thornburg, 77, of Port Ludlow died May 21, 1999, in Poulsbo.
He was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Marino, Colo., to J.G. and Bessie (Melvin) Thornburg. He grew up in Colorado and attended school there.
He served in the 802nd Army Engineers from 1940 to 1945. He was a sergeant serving in the Aleutian Islands.
He married
Elaine Fountain on June 18, 1955, in Reno, Nev.
He joined the Spokane Police Department in October 1945 as a motorcycle officer. He retired from the department in 1973 as a detective.
He was a member of Northhill Masonic Lodge 210 in Spokane and the Spokane Police Department's Footprinters.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sandy Roullier of Spokane and Terrie Roberts of Spangle; two stepdaughters, Hazel Woodworth of Garfield and Marcine Christner of Sacramento, Calif.; a stepson, Errol Poffenroth of Bend, Ore.; a brother, Jerry Thornburg of Mina, Nev.; a sister, DeEtta Ethington of Port Ludlow; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Thornburg, and a sister, Eleanor Williams.
At his request, there will be no services. Inurnment will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens at a later date.
