Marjorie Blatt
Marjorie B. Blatt, 78, of Bremerton died May 19, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 20, 1921, in Arpin, Wis., to Milton and Mayme (Fritz) Van Natta. She was raised and educated in Wisconsin, graduating from Bethel Academy and later attending Stevens Point Teachers College for two years.
On July 19, 1943, she married
Frederick Blatt in Seattle.
Mrs. Blatt worked at Naval Torpedo Station Keyport as an engineering technician from 1955 until her retirement in 1971.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Rick of Warboys, England; three daughters, Judy Jenniges of Silverdale, Charlotte Maroldo of Jacksonville, Fla., and Virgene Wildner of Bremerton; three brothers, Bruce of Vesper, Wis., Daniel of Arpin and Alan of Wisconsin; a sister, Nancy Darrow of Minacqua, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Joan Bailey
Joan Bailey, 65, of Gig Harbor died of natural causes May 18, 1999, at St. Clair Hospital in Lakewood.
She was born Jan. 5, 1934, in Cedar, Iowa, to Floyd and Mildred (Tennis) McGlothlen. She was raised in Iowa and Idaho, graduating from high school in Nampa, Idaho, in 1952. She graduated from nursing school in Nampa in 1954 and from Pierce College in Tacoma in 1990.
In 1971, she married
Donald James Bailey Sr. in Jovita, Wash.
Mrs. Bailey worked with foster children for 10 years. She and her husband cared for 149 children over that period of time.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Donald of Gig Harbor, James of Olalla and Bob of Florida; two daughters, Kathy Bartlett of California, and Patty Nuttall of Port Orchard; a brother, Gerald of Nampa; a sister, Marjorie Lanphier of Port Orchard; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, with a funeral service immediately following, both at Rill Chapel.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Arturo Mataban
Arturo T. Mataban, 56, of Bremerton died May 18, 1999.
He was born June 7, 1942, in the Philippines, to Teofilo and Laureana Mataban. He was raised and educated in the Philippines.
On May 26, 1962, he married
Aurelia Tan in Chicago.
Mr. Mataban served in the Navy from 1960 to 1987, retiring as a chief petty officer.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Francis of Manila, Philippines; three brothers, Ernesto, Josefino and Tony, all of the Philippines; and one sister, Chita of the Philippines.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. The funeral liturgy will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4215 Pine Road NE. Interment
will be at the Eternal Garden, Dagupan, Philippines.

Georgia Boyd
Georgia Mary Boyd, 77, of Bremerton died of heart failure May 13, 1999, at Oyster Bay Retirement Home.
She was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Harold M. and Alys L. (Taylor) Percy.
She was raised and educated in Winona, Minn., where she attended high school.
On Oct. 25, 1948, she married
Robert L. Boyd Sr. in Sunnyvale, Calif. Mr. Boyd preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Boyd served in the Navy from 1943 to 1949 as a specialist second class in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Jr. of Manhattan, Kan., Richard of Kingston and Paul of Olalla; a daughter, Anne Vanderwall of Bremerton; two brothers, Harold of Hastings, Minn., and Richard of Lewiston, Minn.; a sister, Jean Pollachek of Oak Forest, Ill.; and six grandchildren, Adam and Andy Boyd, both of Manhattan, and Jason, Jeremy, Dale and Daniel Vanderwall, all of Bremerton.

Leslie Shuler
Leslie Laverne Shuler, 77, of Bremerton died May 18, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 23, 1921, in Nessa, Ore. His family moved to Canada by covered wagon when he was 3 years old. He was raised and educated in Canada.
On June 5, 1946, he married
Josephine Beasley in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.
Mr. Shuler served in the Army during World War II in North Africa and Italy. He was a welder by trade, helping to build Highway 3 in Kitsap County and Highway 2 through Stevens Pass. He was also a member of the crew that did the dredging for Delta Dry Dock at Subase Bangor.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4992 in Silverdale.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Carl of Tacoma and Richard, Francis and Kenneth, all of Bremerton; three daughters, Judy Amiotte of South Dakota and Kathy Nichols and Norma Atwood, both of Bremerton; a stepson, Al Evans of Clarkston; three sisters, Luella Smith and Lena Mathews, both of Kalispell, Mont., and Sylvia Nelson of Castlegar, British Columbia; a brother, Rollo of Spokane; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Marian Morland
Marian Lee Morland, 74, of Bremerton died of heart failure May 12, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born July 19, 1924, in Spokane to Charles and Genevieve (Madden) Clem. She was raised and educated in Spokane, graduating from Rogers High School in 1942.
In 1977, she married
Frank Morland in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Gary Lorentzen of Spokane; a sister, Becky Joshephson of Silverdale; and two grandchildren, Kevin Lorentzen of Priest Lake, Idaho, and Travis Lorentzen of Seattle.
At her request, no services will be conducted.

August Fecke
August Frank Fecke, 92, of Bremerton died of cancer May 18, 1999, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
He was born Oct. 27, 1906, in New Orleans to John and Mary (Monjure) Fecke. He was raised and educated in New Orleans.
In September 1939, he married
Agnes Horish in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Fecke served in the Navy from 1922 to 1945. He had sea duties in the South Atlantic and the Caribbean before World War II, serving aboard the coal-fired USS New York in the 1920s.
He survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and later served aboard aircraft carriers in the Pacific Theater of World War II, achieving the rank of chief warrant officer 2.
After his discharge in 1945, he owned and operated a cabinet shop in Roslyn for 16 years. He then moved to Bremerton and worked as a carpenter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1970.
He was a life member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the original commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Roslyn, founded in 1946, and a member of the Lomita Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife and a sister, Rhoda Guiffria of Metairie, La. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
It was his wish for services to be conducted privately.

David Van Hoozer
David Wayne Van Hoozer, 67, of Bremerton died May 16, 1999, at Veterans Hospital in Seattle.
He was born April 11, 1932, in Bowen, Mo., to William Sampson Van Hoozer and Helen Mae Blecher. He was raised in Missouri until age 12, when he moved to California until joining the Air Force.
Mr. Van Hoozer served in the Air Force from 1949 to 1958, also obtaining his high school equivalency diploma. He later worked as a stock clerk for Yolo County Hospital in Woodland, Calif., retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 131 in Woodland before transferring to the DAV Post 22 and the Blinded Veterans Association.
Survivors include a son, William of Woodland; a daughter, Barbara Jean Hall of Woodland; a brother, Donald of Bremerton; a sister, Evelyn Pearson of Amarillo, Texas; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place May 26 in Woodland.

Lenora James
Lenora L. James, 74, of Bremerton died May 17, 1999.
She was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Clinton, Mont., to Stanley and Albertine (Hanke) Babcock. She was raised and educated in Butte, Mont., graduating from Butte High School in 1943.
Mrs. James worked for the government for 30 years. Her last position was contract administrator at the Naval Ocean Systems Center in San Diego. One of the more memorable contracts she administrated was the purchase of the original carpet on the USS Missouri.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include three sons, Leonard and Larry, both of Bremerton, and Kenneth of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Harold Babcock of Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Ron Schlosser and Rebekah George, both of Bremerton, Daniel James of Fort Stewart, Ga., and Rachel, Ryan, Kyle and Bryce James, all of Bremerton. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Richard.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Peninsula Bible Fellowship, 9590 Radcliff Ave. NE.
