Gerald Van Scoyoc
Former Kitsap County resident Gerald Murlin Van Scoyoc, 92, died May 11, 1999.
He was born to Charles and Mazie Van Scoyoc in June of 1906.
Mr. Van Scoyoc worked for over 30 years in the supply department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of the Orting Methodist Church and had been active in the Odd Fellows lodges in Orting and Sumner.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Frances Gorton; two daughters, Shirley Rehngren of Seattle and Arlene Prince of Palmyra, Va.; a brother, Melwood of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Townley Bale of Seattle; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at the Orting Methodist Church.

Edith Olund
Former Port Orchard resident Edith E. Olund, 92, died of a heart attack May 8, 1999, at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.
She was born March 23, 1907, in Waterman, near Port Orchard, to Olaf A. and Hilda M. (Aklquist) Olund. She was raised in Waterman and attended South Kitsap High School.
Mrs. Olund was a homemaker.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
She is survived by a niece, Edith Strandness of Bellevue.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Rill Chapel. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery following the service.

Caroline Quinlan
Caroline Helen Quinlan, 66, of Poulsbo died May 12, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Beaverton, Ore., to Helen (Pfeifer) and Walter Hill Sr. She was raised and educated in Poulsbo, graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1950. She later studied data processing at Olympic College.
Mrs. Quinlan worked for many groceries in Bremerton and the IGA in Poulsbo before becoming a computer programmer for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. She worked at PSNS for 28 years, retiring in 1989.
She taught at Breidablik Community Sunday School.
Survivors include her mother; and two brothers, Walter Jr. and James, both of Poulsbo. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Marvin.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ Memorial Church, Munger Chapel, Eighth Avenue and Hostmark Street in Poulsbo. There will be a private interment at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, "The Stone Chapel."

Lolita Reese
Lolita Reese, 93, of Bremerton died May 15, 1999, at the Tacoma Terrace Convalescent Home.
She was born Jan. 5, 1906, in Hillsboro, Ore., to Frank and Eliza (Rounds) Francis. She was a descendent of the Rounds, Francis and Olanie families, who were pioneers of Kitsap County. She was raised in Hillsboro, Ore.
On Aug. 15, 1924, she married
Lloyd Reese in Hillsboro, Ore. Mr. Reese preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Reese worked for Hayward Insurance Agency and as a secretary for the pipe shop at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Bremerton, serving as secretary. She also was a member of the Good Sam Kampers Club.
Survivors include a son, Lloyd of Olympia; two daughters, Carolyn Torre and Marilyn Zierath, both of Puyallup; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Leland, and a daughter, Juanita Jackson.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Edgar Derrig
Edgar H. Derrig, 78, of Bremerton died May 16, 1999, at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Mapes, N.D., to Harry and Alfreda (Kilstadius) Derrig. He attended schools in North Dakota. He received his degree in dentistry from the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Derrig served in the Navy, his first tour of duty being with the 13th Naval District Headquarters in Seattle. He served in the Army occupation in Japan until his discharge in 1947 at the rank of lieutenant.
Dr. Derrig practiced dentistry in Bremerton until his retirement in 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Marion; four sons, John, Jim, Joe and Rick; a daughter, Dede; and two sisters, Joyce Cogdall and Elaine Jagels.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Marian Sherrard
Marian Althea Sherrard, 89, of Poulsbo died May 14, 1999, in Poulsbo.
She was born Oct. 20, 1909, in Tacoma to Andrew and Maren (Thorpe) Ringseth. She was raised and educated in Tacoma, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1929.
In 1931, she married
Jean Howard Sherrard in Tacoma. Mr. Sherrard preceded her in death in 1953.
Mrs. Sherrard operated the family auto freight business after her husband died until selling it in 1956. In 1958, she went to work for John Knox Presbyterian Church in Normandy Park until her retirement in 1978.
She was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Seattle, Angle Lake Presbyterian in Des Moines as well as John Knox Presbyterian.
Survivors include four sons, Jean and Roger, both of Poulsbo, Donald of Bellevue and Jerry of Seattle; three sisters, Ruth, Florence and Faith, all of the Puyallup area; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 109 SW Normandy Road, Normandy Park, Wash.
A local memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Christ Memorial Church, Munger Chapel, Eighth Avenue and Hostmark Street in Poulsbo.
A private family interment will take place at Washington Memorial cemetery in SeaTac.

Randy Etchey
Anthony Randall Etchey, 45, of Bremerton died May 4, 1999.
He was born March 15, 1954, in Seattle.
Mr. Etchey served in the Army. He later worked for Paratransit Services.
Survivors include his mother, Altamae Etchey-Byers of Arizona; his father, Evertt Byers of Arizona; and two brothers, Jerome of Arizona and Mike of Washington.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. May 29 at 1615 4th St. in Bremerton.
Frances Boe
Frances M. Boe, 78, of Port Orchard died May 15, 1999, at her home.
She was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Omaha, Neb. She was a homemaker and member of the Port Orchard Eagles.
She married
Alfred Boe in San Francisco on May 24, 1943. He died in January.
Survivors include daughters Mary Frances Prosser of Charlotte, N.C., Jeanette Kay Smith of Bremerton and Alice Christine Silvey of San Jose, Calif.; grandchildren David Prosser, Theresa Watson, Alyce Cameron, Robyn Kellam, Cheryl Jarvis, Matthew Silvey and Jennifer Coy; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Tuesday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, with the funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday, also at Rill Chapel. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel is handling arrangements.

Jonathan Warthin
Jonathan Carver Warthin, 58, of Silverdale died of leukemia May 6, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 11, 1940, in Boston to Thomas A. and Virginia (Whittier) Warthin. He was raised in Norwood, Mass., graduating from Roxbury Latin School in 1958. He attended the Naval Academy, graduating in 1962, and the University of Southern California, graduating in 1983.
On Nov. 28, 1968, he married
Mary Tappan in Canton, Mass.
Mr. Warthin served in the Navy from 1962 to 1983, retiring after 21 years of service. He also worked as a consultant for M. Rosenblatt and Co. for 16 years and as an educator in the math department at Olympic College for six years.
He was a member of the Society of Logistic Engineers and the National Contract Management Association.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jonathan of Charleston, S.C.; a daughter, Frances Ferguson of Silverdale; two brothers, Scott Warthin of Derby, Vt., and Thomas Whittier Warthin of McLean, Va.; and two grandchildren, Christopher Taylor of Silverdale and Daisy Taylor of Wisconsin.
At Mr. Warthin's request, no formal services will be conducted. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National cemetery in the fall.
