Melissie Bontrager
Melissie A. Bontrager, 83, of Port Orchard died May 7, 1999, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born July 16, 1915, in Seattle to James and Bonnie (Hubbard) Davis.
She was raised and educated in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1934.
On March 18, 1939, she married
Thomas A. Bontrager in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Mrs. Bontrager was a homemaker and self-employed accountant for many Port Orchard merchants from the 1950s to the 1970s. During World War II, she worked in ship services at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Survivors include two sons, Terry of Port Orchard and Gary of Stanwood; a brother, James A. Davis Jr. of Silverdale; five grand-children, Barry, Quincy and Aaron Bontrager and Robert and Katie Staples; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. May 12, 1999, at the Rill Chapel.
Memorials may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
Winifred Sheets
Winifred C. Sheets, 95, of Bremerton died May 6, 1999, in Edmonds.
She was born Nov. 30, 1903, in Boston to Harry and Armina Chamberlin.
She was raised and educated in Port Orchard.
On Nov. 8, 1922, she married
John I. Sheets.
He preceded her in death in 1989.
Mrs. Sheets is survived by a son, Joseph Sheets of Mead; nine grandchildren, Richard Sheets of Kennewick, David Sheets of Mead, Kathleen Anderson of Deer Park, Victoria Sheets of Edmonds, Armina Nolan of Seattle, Cindy Kuntz of Burien, Pamela Pannoyer of Seattle, John Sheets of Seattle and Dan Sheets of Delores, Colo.; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel with interment immediately following at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Ruby Byerly
Ruby Sylvia Byerly, 84, of Belfair died May 7, 1999, in Shelton.
She was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Diagonal, Iowa, to Otto and Florence (Spencer) Dillenberg.
On May 9, 1934, she married
Milton Byerly in Creston, Iowa.
He preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Byerly was a charter member of the Belfair Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons, Richard of Seattle, Dennis of Kent, and Robert, William, Claude and John, all of Belfair; three brothers, John Dillenburg of Yelm, Kenneth Dillenburg of Olympia and Eldon Dillenburg of Belfair; a sister, Joanne Scott of Bremerton; 23 grand-children; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Nelson and Jerry Byerly; and two brothers, Raymond and Jack Dillenburg.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Belfair Community Baptist Church with interment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Richard Carlson
Richard Carlson, 87, of Bremerton died May 7, 1999, at Sunrise of Oyster Bay Care Center in Bremerton.
He was born February 15, 1912, in Sweden to Oscar and Augusta (Bengtsen) Karlsson.
Carlson served a year in the Army, from 1941 to 1942.
On Oct. 7, 1942, he married
Virginia Osborne at West Seattle Christian Church. They were married
for 56 years.
He spent 32 years working at the joiner shop of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where he retired as supervisor in 1971.
Carlson was a member of the Bremerton Mason's, the Bridge Club, a past Master of the Charleston Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Clover Valley Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Steven of Centralia; a daughter, Candace of Seattle; four brothers and one sister in Sweden; and two grandchildren, Peter and Molly.
A Masonic Funeral Service and interment will be held at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel at 1 p.m. May 12.

Dorothy Qualls
Dorothy Elizabeth Qualls, 90, of Bremerton died May 6, 1999, at her home.
She was born Feb. 15, 1909, in Finley, N.D., to Albert and Alice (Hetherington) Horner.
Survivors include a son, Ronald of Marysville; a daughter, Pat Wallace of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Qualls.
Funeral service and interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Patricia Wright
Patricia M. Wright, 79, of Poulsbo died May 7, 1999, at Martha & Mary Nursing Home.
She was born March 16, 1920, in London to Percival and Maude (Eaton) Cocks.
She was raised and educated in London.
In 1948, she married
Thomas M. Wright in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Wright was a homemaker and member of the Episcopal Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Tommy L. Wright of Poulsbo; a daughter, Jane Shimanek of Clearview; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaugter.
A private family service is planned. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, "The Stone Chapel."

Christine O'Hara
Christine W. Herman O'Hara, 93, of Port Orchard died of natural causes May 6, 1999.
She was born Sept. 22, 1905, in Carrington, N.D., to George and Amelia (Foote) O'Hara. She was raised and educated in Carrington.
On Sept. 19, 1925, she married
Joseph "Joe" O'Hara in Minot, N.D. Mr. O'Hara preceded her in death in 1963.
Mrs. O'Hara was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Port Orchard and the Golden Friendship Club at First Lutheran.
Survivors include two sons, John of Guemes Island, Wash., and Joe of Plain, Wash.; two daughters, Beverly Thompson of Bremerton and Marlene Wolf of Port Orchard; a sister, Mildred Swartout of Centralia; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Proctor.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.

Leah Winslow Seachord
Longtime Kitsap County resident Leah Rose (Winslow) Seachord, 72, died April 30, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 22, 1926, in Freehold, N.J., to John Phineas and Margaretta Cecelind (Shenberger) Winslow. She was raised and educated in Beatrice, Neb. In 1950, she moved to Kitsap County from Hastings, Neb.
On June 24, 1946, she married
Dale Edward Seachord in Mankato, Kan. Mr. Seachord preceded her in death in 1992.
Survivors include five sons, Stephen "Steve" Cleo of Plano, Texas, Daniel "Dan" Edward of Lawrenceville, N.J., Ted Joe of Hollywood, Fla., Dale Jr. of Vancouver, Wash., and Samuel Dean of Pickliessem, Germany; a daughter, Debra Sue Ridgeway of Puyallup; two sisters, Clara Rudder of Lincoln, Neb., and Margaretta Miller of Nacogdoches, Texas; nine grandchildren, Melissa Renshaw of Quinland, Texas, Donna Seachord of Plano, Texas, Stephen Seachord Jr. of Dallas, Jayson Seachord of Sasebo, Japan, Jessica Schroeter of Tacoma, Chelsea Seachord of Lawrenceville, Bob Moore of Redmond and Joseph Moore and Audrey Ridgeway, both of Puyallup; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the family home.
She will be interred next to her husband at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Randall Dowding
Randall Lee Dowding, 46, of Belfair died May 3, 1999, at his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1952, in Eaton Rapids, Mich.
Mr. Dowding served in the Navy as a chief gunner's mate, retiring after 22 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lucinda K. Aleo; his mother, Dorotha E. Dowding of Onondaga, Mich.; a son, Charles of Belfair; a daughter, Crystal of Belfair; a brother, Richard of Onondaga; and two sisters, Sharyn Cahill of Rives Junction, Mich., and Lynda Ellsworth of Leslie, Mich.
Services will be conducted in Michigan.
