Wallace Jeffrey
Wallace Jeffrey, 76, died May 1, 1999, in Tacoma.
He was born June 16, 1922, in Manhattan, N.Y.
Survivors include a son, Samuel; a daughter, Lori of Bremerton; a brother, Douglas; and six grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Oakwood Hill Funeral Directors.
Marguerite Finden
Marguerite K. (Grete) Finden, 81, of Southworth died of complications resulting from non-Hodgkins lymphoma May 1, 1999, at her home.
She was born May 17, 1917, in Butte, Mont., to Dr. Alfred and Ann Karsted. She was raised in Butte and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1936.
On September 11, 1943, she married
Joseph W. Finden in Neosho, Mo. At the end of World War II, they moved to the Pacific Northwest.
Mrs. Finden was an accomplished tailor, pilot, wood carver and master gardener. In 1970, she established Finden's Tailor Shop in Burien, which she operated until 1982. At that time, she was the only female member of the Master Tailors and Designers Association of America.
She was a member of the Round Squares Square Dance Club and a tutor for the Adult Literacy Program. She also was an active member of Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, J. Thomas of Port Orchard and Gerald of Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada; a daughter, Anita L. Cook of Des Moines, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elim Lutheran Church, 5911 Hillcrest Drive in Port Orchard.
Remembrances may be made to Elim Lutheran Church or the Wheelchair Library For You in Bremerton.
Travis Bassett
Former Bremerton resident Travis Clayton Bassett, 22, died of an accidental shooting April 20, 1999, in San Antonio, Texas.
He was born April 21, 1976, in Utah. He attended Bremerton schools until age 12.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Marie Bassett of San Antonio; two sisters, Mindy and April Kanouse; his grandparents, Imogene and Dan Newbrey; and his great-grandmother, Ellen Coates of Nampa, Idaho.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the home of his grandmother, Imogene Newbrey, 1420 Naval Ave., Bremerton.
Carl Sprenkel
Carl L. Sprenkel, 55, of Port Orchard died May 1, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 11, 1943, in South Bend, Ind., to Henry W. Sprenkel and Marie E. (Tiedge) Morse. He moved to Southern California from Indiana at the age of 14.
On March 17, 1967, he married
Donna M. Boyster in Arleta, Calif.
Mr. Sprenkel served in the Army from 1967 to 1970 in Alaska as a communications specialist fourth class. He later worked as a marine electrician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 17 years.
He was a member of the Western Washington Mining Association and the Kitsap County Ham Radio Club.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janelle Fitzpatrick of Port Orchard; a brother, Richard Sprenkel of Chico, Calif.; three sisters, Ann Wilson of Panama City, Fla., Ruth Thompson of Clovis, Calif., and Marian Christianson of Redmond; and two grandchildren, Tasha and Zackery Fitzpatrick, both of Port Orchard. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dowayne.
Visitation will be today from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, all at Rill Chapel.
Interment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Tristan Pieper
Tristan Maurice Pieper was born and died April 29, 1999.
He is survived by his parents, Robin and Donald Pieper Jr. of Silverdale; his grandparents, Diana Wulf, Jane and Donald Pieper Sr., Diane and John McCloskey and Richard Myers.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Gig Harbor.
Helene Savard
Helene Florence Savard, 89, of Bremerton died May 2, 1999, at Northwoods Lodge.
She was born March 20, 1910, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Max and Theresa (Saurer) Schwarzhuber. She was raised in Milwaukee.
On Nov. 14, 1936, she married
Emil C. Savard in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death in 1966.
Mrs. Savard worked as a medical secretary at Naval Hospital Bremerton until her retirement in 1963.
She was a member of the Eagles and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include a son, Eugene of Bremerton; a grandchild, JoAnn Savard-Lucas of Bremerton; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Bertha Updike
Former Bremerton resident Bertha M. Updike, 94, died May 2, 1999, in Shelton.
She was born Feb. 15, 1905, in Olalla.
On Dec. 31, 1944, she married
Wayne Updike in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Updike worked as a nursing assistant at Shelton General Hospital until her retirement.
Survivors include a son, Larry of Spokane; a daughter, Geraldine Desmarais of Des Moines; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hope Chapel in Shelton. A graveside service will follow at Fraola cemetery in Olalla.
Arrangements are under the direction of McComb Funeral Home.
Kenneth True
Kenneth W. True, 71, of Silverdale died April 30, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 24, 1928, in Tunnellton, Ind., and raised and educated in Lawrence County, Ind.
In 1951, he married
Sharon Patrick in Plainfield, Ind.
He served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948. He was an asbestos worker, member of Local 18, in Indianapolis for more than 40 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Richard True of Port Orchard; two brothers, Richard C. True of New Castle, Ind., and Donald E. True of Bedford, Ind.; a half brother, Fred True of Mitchell, Ind.; a sister, Wanda Rawnsley of Plainfield, Ind.; a half sister Linda Kelley of Elletsville, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Shawna, Sara and Caitlin True of Port Orchard.
Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Rill Chapel.
Interment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Travis Bassett
Travis Clayton Bassett, 22, of San Antonio died April 20, 1999, from an accidental shooting with a handgun in Utah.
He was born April 21, 1976, and attended Bremerton schools until age 12.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Marie Bassett of San Antonio; two sisters, Mindy and April Kanouse; and grandparents Imogene and Dan Newbrey.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the home of his grandmother Imogene Newbrey, 1420 Naval Ave., Bremerton.
Richard Whiteley
Richard Tull Whiteley, 38, of Poulsbo died April 28, 1999, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
He was born Dec. 8, 1960, in Oxnard, Calif., to Warren and Audrey Whiteley.
He was raised in Oxnard and graduated from Pio Mesa High School in Oxnard.
He served in the Air Force from 1978 to 1980.
In 1980, he moved to North Kitsap, where he was employed in the construction industry, working for a time for Bud Reeves Construction and for a time operating his own concrete company. He also worked in the construction industry in Ohio.
Survivors include his parents, Warren and Audrey Whiteley of Poulsbo; a son, Jordan E. Whiteley of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three sisters Tinamarie Whitford of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Erica Miller of Bellevue and Senta Mellinger of Kingston; and his grandmothers Audrea Hodgson of Pleasant Plain, Ohio, and Fay Toombs of San Diego.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Poulsbo Mortuary in The Stone Chapel.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cherry Grove Memorial Park, 22272 Foss Road NE, Poulsbo.

Opal Uhler
Opal R. Uhler, 92, died April 30, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 20, 1906, in Athol, Kan. She was raised and educated in Fleming, Colo.
On May 20, 1924, she married
Eddie E. Uhler. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Uhler was a homemaker on the family farm in Fleming, Colo.
Survivors include a son, Gene Uhler of Sterling, Colo.; two daughters, Marlene Campbell of Bremerton and Joyce Schaefer of Fleming, Colo.; and five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
