Ed Morsonelli
John "Ed" Morsonelli, 78, of Port Orchard and Salt Lake City died of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) April 22, 1999, at Ridgemont Terrace Nursing Home.
He was born June 20, 1920, in Washington, D.C., to Ethel Lael (Sousa) Morsonelli and John Elliott West. He was raised and educated in Washington, D.C., and graduated from high school there in 1938.
He enlisted in the Air Force in January 1942 and served until November 1945.
Mr. Morsonelli was awarded the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
In 1943, he married Marjorie Amussen in Salt Lake City.
He was employed by J.B. Kelley Trucking Co. in Salt Lake City as office manager for 33 years until his retirement in 1992.
In addition to his wife, also at Ridgemont Terrace, survivors include a daughter, Shonnie Carson of Port Orchard; a sister, Dorothy Sullivan of Mayo, Md.; two grandchildren, Scott Hoggan and Kim Hoggan of Salt Lake City; and two great-grandchildren, Sean and Skylark.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Hoggan.
Services will be noon May 15, 1999, at Harper Pier.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

Margaret Benham
Margaret Rebecca Benham, 86, of Bremerton died April 28, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born June 18, 1912, in Muncie, Ind., to Cordie and Ethel (Hurst) McCrackin.
She was raised and educated in Muncie and graduated from Central High School in 1930. She then attended Earlham College In Richmond, Ind., and graduated from Ball State College with a bachelor's in nursing.
On Sept. 5, 1942, she married Dr. Shirley Benham Jr., and they made their home in Bremerton 52 years ago.
He preceded her in death in 1997 after 55 years of marriage.
Mrs. Benham was an active member of Lincoln Avenue Bible Church.
Survivors include three sons, Keith and Phil, both of Bremerton, and Steve of Port Orchard; four grandchildren, Tom, Joanie, Becky and Charles; and a great-grandchild.
At the family's request, there will be no services.
Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Memorial Park with inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Charles Martell
Charles Gratton Martell, 81, of Poulsbo died April 30, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Duluth, Minn., to Elmer and Corinne (Gratton) Martell.
He was raised in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Hibbing, Minn., graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1936.
He served in the Navy from 1936 to 1940, then became a navigator in the Air Force, flying 29 missions over Europe.
On Dec. 14, 1946, he married Dorothy Fonner in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Martell worked for the Federal Aviation Administration in Boise, Everett and Kent, and he was at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport when it opened.
He later became a contractor and moved to Kitsap County 24 years ago. He built and operated Martell Mobile Manor in Port Orchard.
In addition to his wife at the family home, survivors include two sons, Charles A.R. Martell of Kent and Daniel E. Martell of Ephrata; four daughters, Jane Chapin of Silverdale, Dorothy E. Fernando of Sedro Wooley, Nancy Smith of Federal Way and Marian Scott of Everett; a sister, Myra Martell of Chicago; and 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A sister, Claire Martell, preceded him in death in 1998.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Interment will be at Mount View cemetery in Silverdale.

Josephine Sievert
Longtime Bremerton resident Josephine Sievert, 87, died of natural causes April 29, 1999, at Crista Shores in Silverdale.
She was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Spooner, Wis., to Ralph and Rose (Bianco) Mazzo. She was raised and educated in Spooner, graduating from Spooner High School in 1929. She later graduated from Superior State College in 1931.
On July 3, 1937, she married Edward A. Sievert in Eau Claire, Wis.
Mrs. Sievert worked as a substitute teacher in Eau Claire for a few years and also was employed with Rural Hayward School in Wisconsin for six years.
She was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bremerton and was a member of the Soroptimist International Club.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Edward Jr. of Sequim and Thomas of Neenah, Wis.; a daughter, Carol Schueler of Seattle; a sister, Lucille Gentile of St. Paul, Minn.; six grandchildren, Pamela and Anthony Sievert, both of Neenah, Paul Sievert of Palmdale, Calif., Jolene Walkowiak of Aurora, Colo., Bradley Sievert of Eugene, Ore., and Betsy Goll of Fairbanks, Alaska; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bremerton. Inurnment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Cecile Currier
Cecile Burton Currier, 74, of Port Orchard died April 27, 1999, in Port Orchard.
She was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Lewis, Wash., to Rex W. and Mamie (Nott) Yates. She was raised on the Kitsap Peninsula, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1943. She later graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 1970.
On Oct. 10, 1942, she married James Currier in Port Orchard. Mr. Currier preceded her in death in 1997.
Mrs. Currier retired from teaching at John Sedgwick Junior High School after more than 20 years.
She was a member of the Genealogy Society, the Doll Club and the Master Gardeners.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas and James, both of Port Orchard; a brother, Roger Hector of Melbourne, Australia; a grandchild, Jane Crist of Everett; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine.
No services are scheduled. Cremation is by Cherry Grove Crematory.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2383, Bremerton, WA 98310.

Donald Johansen
Donald Lars Johansen, 61, of Poulsbo died of cancer April 24, 1999.
He was born Feb. 26, 1938, in Seattle to Christian and Dorothy (Voigt) Johansen. He was raised in Seattle, graduating from Ballard High School in 1956, and from the University of Washington in 1961.
On Nov. 29, 1985, he married Julia Hamilton in Bellevue.
Mr. Johansen served in the Coast Guard from 1961 to 1977, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He later worked for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division at Keyport, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the Agate Pass Power Squadron and the Poulsbo Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; three stepsons, John Hamilton of Blaine, James Hamilton of Avon, N.Y., and Andrew Hamilton of Post Falls, Idaho; a stepdaughter, Mary Keech of Renton; and two sisters, Janice Forshee of Kent and Joyce Forshee of Sequim.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. May 8 at St. Charles Episcopal Church in Poulsbo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, 1100 Fairview Ave., Seattle, WA 98109.

Marjorie Harvey
Marjorie F. Harvey, 93, of Bremerton died June 27, 1999, of natural causes at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Feb. 20, 1906, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Timothy G. and Ella M. (Schwatka) Platt. She grew up in Colorado Springs, Colo.
She married Stiles S. Harvey on Sept. 2, 1944, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She worked as a comptroller at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 27 years, retiring in 1969.
She was a past matron of the Olympic Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, was a past high priestess of Olivet Shrine and was a member of Mystic Rebekah Lodge and Unity Church of Bremerton.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Norris Weese
Norris K. Weese, 60, of Port Orchard died June 27, 1999, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
He was born Jan. 15, 1939, in Carbondale, W.Va., to Norman and Bertha (Jackson) Weese. He grew up in Gauley Bridge, W.Va., graduating from Gauley Bridge High School.
Mr. Weese attended Olympic College. He received a master's degree in accounting from the University of Washington and held a doctorate in law from the University of Puget Sound.
He married Judy Rutherford on July 2, 1970, in San Francisco.
He served in the Navy from 1957 until his retirement in 1987 as a senior chief yeoman. He was the recipient of numerous awards and medals during his career in the Navy.
Mr. Weese was a certified enrolled agent for the U.S. Treasury Department.
Survivors include his wife; six sons, Rodney Weese and Robert Weese, both of California, and Lenard Lopez, Scott Weese, Chet Weese and David Weese, all of Washington; three daughters, Sharron Lopez and Danita Hoff, both of Washington, and Ravena Schwartz of California; two brothers, John Weese and Larry Weese, both of West Virginia; a sister, Dalma Barber of West Virginia; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Weese and Norman Weese Jr., and by a grandchild, Cristin Weese.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be at
10 a.m. Friday, also at Rill Chapel. Interment icon will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
