Esther May
Esther M. May, 64, of Kent died June 24, 1999, at Auburn General Hospital.
She was born Nov. 12, 1934, in Manchester.
She married
Lawrence Joseph May, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. May was a manager.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Joseph May of Kent; four daughters, Gladys Marie Buswell and Kristi Rose Bartley, both of Kent, Katherine Yvonne Benson of Pennsylvania and Beverly Jean Benson of New York; a brother, Chester Griffith of Belfair; three sisters, Lilly Kelly of Clarkston and Margaret O'Donnell and Virginia Hines, both of Bremerton; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will follow the 2 p.m. viewing on Tuesday at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Renton.
Jean Stitz
Jean K. Stitz, 65, of Port Orchard died June 24, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Trout Run, Penn., and was raised and educated in Geneva, N.Y.
Survivors include her husband, Bil; a daughter, Kathy Hancock of Indian Springs, N.Y.; a stepson, Lenny Schwartz of Henderson, N.Y.; a brother, Buddy Oughterson of Haleiwa, Hawaii; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no local services.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.
Thomas Wright
Thomas Malcolm Wright, 85, of Poulsbo died June 24, 1999, in Poulsbo.
He was born May 15, 1914, in Throckmorton, Texas, and was raised and educated there. He graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1930.
On Jan. 23, 1948, he married
his wife, Patricia. She preceded him in death on May 7, 1998.
Mr. Wright served in southern France, Normandy and Germany as an Army Air Corps radio operator from March 21, 1941, to Sept. 6, 1945.
He received the European-Africa Middle East Theater ribbon with five bronze stars, the Air Medal with three Oak clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the American Defense Service Medal.
Most recently, he worked as a Northwest field representative for Donmoor Children's Clothing Co., retiring in 1978 after 25 years.
Earlier, he had been a station manager for Standard Oil and was later a field representative for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., in charge of the vehicles used during the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam.
Mr. Wright was a member of NAWCAS and was Grand Marshal for numerous gold clubs in Palm Springs.
Survivors include a son, Tommy L. Wright of Poulsbo; a daughter, Jane Shimanek of Snohomish; six grandchildren, Stacy Wright of Kirkland, D. Adam Drazic of Bellevue, Daniel and Sarah Wright, both of Seattle, Benjamin Wright of Pullman and Gabrielle Roppo of Kirkland.
There will be a private family inurnment at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Barbara Hart
Barbara Ann Hart, 71, of Poulsbo died June 22, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Minneapolis to Cecil and Erma (Cooke) Barnes.
She was raised and educated in the South San Francisco area.
On Sept. 20, 1947, she married
Marvin James Hart in South San Francisco. He preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1998.
Mrs. Hart was a homemaker for 51 years. She also was a teacher's aide at Christ the King Academy in Poulsbo and at South Kitsap Christian School. She also was involved with the children's ministries at Christ Memorial Church, where she volunteered her cooking, knitting and teaching skills.
Survivors include a son, Stephen G. Hart of Bremerton; two daughters, Deborah Adams of Redmond and Jamison Burtis of Richland; a brother, Robert Barnes of Minneapolis; a sister, Phyllis Brien of Belmont, Calif.; five grandchildren, Jeff and Janna Adams, both of Redmond, Amanda Hart of Bremerton, and Brandon and Logon Burtis, both of Richland.
A memorial service will be at noon Monday at Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo.
Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Howard Henderson
Dr. Howard Bruce Henderson, 86, of Bremerton died June 25, 1999, at Sunrise Care and Rehab of Oyster Bay.
He was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Seattle, to Elliott and Ismay (Darragh) Henderson. He grew up in Seattle, graduating from Garfield High School there in 1931.
He graduated from the University of Washington in 1937, and from College of the Pacific (now the University of Oregon) in Portland, Ore., in 1942.
He married
Virginia Petrie on Aug. 1, 1943, at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard chapel.
He served as a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve from 1942 to 1945. He was a dental officer in the South Pacific aboard USS West Virginia.
Dr. Henderson had a private dentistry practice in Bremerton for 40 years. He retired in 1982.
He was past president of the Washington State Dental Association, a past member of the State Board of Dental Examiners, past president of the Kitsap Dental Society, a member of the Intermediate School District Board for 27 years, a life member of Elks Lodge 1181, a member of St. Antony's Episcopal Church in Silverdale, a member of the State Council on Aging and a member of the Regional Health Planning Advisory Committee.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Brian Henderson of Menlo Park, Calif.; a daughter, the Rev. Kristi M. Philip of Spokane; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Philip of Seattle and Andrea S. McPartlin of Chicago.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Antony's Episcopal Church.

Viola Keith
Former Bremerton resident Viola Beatrice Keith, 85, died June 17, 1999, at Sombrillo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Los Alamos, N.M.
She was born Aug. 20, 1913, in Seattle, to Earl Fairchild and Mary Agnes (Aselstine) Van Volkenburg.
She married
Warren McPherson Keith on Aug. 31, 1934. They lived in Bremerton where both were employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Following their retirement, they lived several years in Honolulu, later moving to Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. Keith had lived in Los Alamos since October 1994. She had lived at the Sombrillo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past 3-1/2 years.
She was a 49-year member of Reliance Chapter, Order of the Eastern Sta, r in Bremerton.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Donelow of Los Alamos; two grandsons, Dennis Hoak of Rosedale, Md., and Richard Hoak of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two granddaughters, Star Tierra of Edgewood, N.M., and Cary Christoff of Portage, Ind.; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A memorial service took place Sunday at the United Church of Los Alamos.

Dorothy Haynes
Dorothy A. Haynes, 81, of Bremerton died June 23, 1999, at Harrison Hospital of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Galesburg, Ill., to Harry and Yula M. (Moore) Adcock. She grew up in Yamhill, Ore.
She married
Murray O. Haynes on Oct. 10, 1936, in Yamhill. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sets of twins, David Haynes of Bremerton and Diane Merkel of Silverdale and Lance and Larry Haynes, both of Southern California; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 6 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Irene Holscher
Irene Edith Holscher, 80, of Fullerton, Calif., died June 7, 1999, in Fullerton of multiple myloma, a form of cancer.
She was born April 22, 1919, to Arthur and Julia (Kern) Wittmeyer in Boston, N.Y., where she grew up.
She married
Harold Holscher on Nov. 20, 1937. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1988.
In the early years of her marriage, she was a homemaker. Later, she worked for 12 years as a dental assistant and receptionist in Buena Park, Calif., retiring in 1978.
She was a member of Young Ladies Institute Corpus Christi 188, the Ladies Guild and the Ambassadors of Mary. She was an original member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Fullerton.
Survivors include a son, Norbert Holscher of Riverside, Calif.; three daughters, Bea Walsh of Fullerton, Judy Childress of Anaheim, Calif. and formerly of Bremerton, and Rosemarie McPherson of Belfair; two brothers, Harold Wittmeyer of Hamburg, N.Y., and Herman Wittmeyer of Prescott, Ariz.; two sisters, Helen Schmitt and Emma Kester, both of Boston, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, June Mangone, Gary Walsh, Dan Walsh, Tammy Walsh and Bill Holscher, all of Fullerton; Gary Baker of Moreno Valley, Calif., Suzie Holscher and David Holscher, both of Riverside, Calif., Julie Austin of Kingston, and Robin McNealy and J.J. McPherson, both of Belfair; and nine great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Bob Walsh.
A rosary was said on June 9 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass on June 10. Interment
took place at Loma Vista cemetery in Fullerton on June 10. Arrangements were under the direction of Renaker-Klockether Funeral Home in Buena Park.

William Shaw
William C. Shaw, 73, of Bremerton died June 21, 1999, in Quincy.
He was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Georgetown, Texas, to Charles and Era (Bryan) Shaw. He grew up in Georgetown, attending the University of Houston.
He married
Lois Ringseth in Tacoma in 1953.
Mr. Shaw served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 and from 1951 until his retirement in 1970. He served in World War II in Asia and Europe and later in Korea.
His military honors included the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Good Conduct Medal with second oak leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal.
Mr. Shaw worked as an electronics technician at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport. He retired in 1989.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, William Shaw III of Spanaway, and James Shaw of Tacoma; four daughters, Jan Sonday of Sumner, Dorothy White of St. Marys, Ga., Susan Bray of Shelton, and Jean Anabel of Quincy; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Shaw and Bryan Shaw.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Marlette Funeral Home in Kent. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
