Grace Huetter
Grace Ann Huetter, 89, of Poulsbo died June 11, 1999, at Martha & Mary Health Center.
She was born March 29, 1910, in Seattle to William and Grace Anne (Boyle) Rohrbach. She grew up in Seattle, graduating from Holy Names Academy (Normal School) in 1928.
She married
Henry A. Huetter. He preceded her in death in 1967.
She was a member of Friends of Fircrest and volunteered with Providence Hospital in Seattle.
Survivors include two sons, Henry of Poulsbo and Thomas of Everett; two daughters, Ann Johnson of Washington, D.C., and Jean Bartholomew of Mentor, Ohio; six grandchildren, David and Tim Johnson, Samuel and Rachel Bartholomew and Ryan and Conal Huetter. She also was preceded in death by a son, John.
A rosary and visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at Calvary cemetery in Seattle at 11 a.m. Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Alice Jacobs
Alice M. Jacobs, 98, a resident of Forest Ridge Convalescent Center in Bremerton the past nine years, died there June 12, 1999.
She was born in Prairie Farm, Wisc., on July 23, 1900. She was educated in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where she, her parents and sister moved in 1908. She graduated there in 1920.
After her first husband's early death, she married
John F. Jacobs in 1926 in Montesano and moved to Bremerton two years later when her husband went to work in the shipyard. He died in 1970.
She enjoyed travel, hiking and the Oregon Coast.
She was a member of Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church and was a lifetime member of the West Bremerton Garden Club after more than 50 years of membership and service in all its offices and chairmanships.
She was a member of West Side Improvement Club and was a Girl Scout leader of Troop 8 from 1942-56. She went camping with her granddaughter's troop at age 68.
The Kitsap County auditor recognized her for more than 50 years of continual voting.
She was an honorary life member of the state PTA (Golden Acorn Award recipient) for service as president and in other offices of the Navy Yard City PTA.
She is survived by four daughters, Emogene Batten of Redmond, Mevelyn Romberg of Auburn, Patricia Schuettke of Olympia and Jacqueline Rose of Belfair; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday with a memorial service following at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton.
Lois Clark
Lois Marie Hamlin Clark, 86, of Port Orchard died June 13, 1999, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Sept. 17, 1912, in Shattuck, Okla., to James and Marjorie (Nelson) Hamlin.
She was a homemaker and attended Wichita Baptist Tabernacle in Kansas and the Bible Baptist Church in Port Orchard.
Her husband, Orville, died in 1977.
She is survived by a son, James Clark of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters, Barbara Kurle of Port Orchard, Anita Winfough of Titusville, Fla., and Patricia Mickelson of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren, Wayne and David Kurle, Lief and Aric Mickelson, Bob and Steven Winfough and Rob and Mary Clark; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lakeview cemetery in Wichita, with interment to follow there. Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel is handling arrangements.
Vera Horton
Vera A. Horton, 87, of Port Orchard died at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center in Port Orchard on June 11, 1999.
She was born on July 1, 1911, in Alliance, Neb., to John and Alice (Hawkins) Wright. She attended Alliance High School, then Chadron Normal School at Chadron, Neb. She got an education degree at the University of Washington.
A homemaker and school teacher, she taught at rural schools in Nebraska for four years, kindergarten in South Kitsap for three, then 12 years at Chico and Jackson Park elementary schools in Central Kitsap, retiring in 1974.
She was a member of First Christian Church, the Retired Teachers Association, Royal Neighbors of America and South Kitsap Senior Citizens Group.
She and Loran Horton were married
July 20, 1932, in Hot Springs, S.D. He died in 1968.
Surviving are two sons, Lanny of Port Orchard and the Rev. Tom Horton of Seattle; a sister, Doris Wright of Alliance; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a 13-day-old child, Larry Horton, a daughter, Lorraine Grable, and three brothers.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard, under direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.
Julia Douglas
Julia Ann Douglas, 72, of Bremerton died June 10, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Fernandina Beach, Fla., where she was raised.
She is survived by a daughter, Lena Lacsamana; four grandchildren, Scott "Randy" Lacsamana, Peggy Abanila, Elizabeth Mabuhay and Ricky Lacsamana; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, also at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Anita Rickabaugh
Anita M. Rickabaugh, 88, of Port Orchard died June 10, 1999, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
She was born Jan. 15, 1911, in Stanwood, Wash., to Fred and Maud (Erickson) Kolb.
She had worked summers in La Conner in the fish canneries and had also tended bar.
Survivors include a son, Forrest Elsen of Bremerton; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard C. Rickabaugh, in 1976 and by two daughters, Marilyn Bretvick and Charlene Ranstead.
At her request, no services will be held. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Crematory under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Lee Brown
J. Lee Brown, 90, of Poulsbo died June 9, 1999, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
He was born Oct. 22, 1908, in Fort Collins, Colo.
Mr. Brown was a city planner for many years, primarily in Marion, Ohio, and Springfield, Ohio. He had lived in Kitsap County since 1997.
He is survived by a son, Curtis Brown of Silverdale; a daughter, Sandra Lee Erbele of Louisville, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His wife, Helen G. (Stewart) Brown, preceded him in death.
A funeral service and burial will be today at Resthaven Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Louisville. Local arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Fa'amaini Thurmond
Pauline F. "Fa'amaini" Thurmond, 77, of Oak Harbor died June 4, 1999, at her home.
She was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Leone, American Samoa, to Filimino and Aifa'i (Tavai) Leota. She grew up in America Samoa.
She was a registered nurse and worked as a traveling public health nurse in the islands during World War II. In 1946, she left the islands, moving to Balboa, Calif., and to Great Lakes, Mich.
During her travels, she met James Burr, a Navy corpsman. They married
in 1946.
In 1958, Mr. Burr was transferred to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, and Oak Harbor became their home. She was employed for several years at the Navy exchange at NAS Whidbey, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Burr preceded her in death April 25, 1971. She was later married
to Novis T. "Jake" Thurmond. He died Sept. 6, 1987.
She was an active member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Oak Harbor, the church choir and ladies society, the Guam Society, the Fil-Am Society (serving as treasurer and sergeant-at-arms) and the Hafa Adai Dance Group.
Survivors include two daughters, Stella Fa'aita and Ruby Atchison, both of Bremerton; two stepchildren, Margaret Thurmond of Oak Harbor and David Thurmond of Marysville; three sisters and one brother, Maselina Barrow of Auburn, Avetonu Atiga of Jacksonville, Fla., Iliganoa Leota and Toloa Leota, both of Leone; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fatu Leota and Keki Sua.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Oak Harbor. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, also at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. A rite of committal will follow at Maple Leaf cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor.
Steve Ralph
Steve W. Ralph, 52, of Port Orchard died June 9, 1999, at his home of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer.
He was born Aug. 5, 1946, in Huron, S.D., to the Rev. E.S. and Ruth (Williams) Ralph. He grew up in Clayton, Ind., and Plainfield, Ind.
Mr. Ralph graduated from Clayton High School in 1964, from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla., in 1973 and from Western Evangelical Seminary in Milwaukie, Ore., in 1977.
He married
Judy Prentice on Aug. 24, 1974, in Bethany, Okla.
His Army career spanned 17 years, including a tour in Vietnam, reserve service in college, three years active chaplaincy at Fort Lewis near Tacoma and 10 years in the Army National Guard, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He received numerous medals and honors.
He also worked for the state Department of Social and Health Services for the past 10 years. He was a former member of the Port Orchard Yacht Club and a member of Bremerton Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife; his father; two sons, Peter and Andrew, both of Port Orchard; a daughter, Katie of Port Orchard; a brother, the Rev. David Ralph of Westminster, Colo.; six sisters, Dorothy Gager of Fresno, Calif., Jewel Fairchild of Mount Vernon, Ohio, Martha Rafael of Santa Fe, N.M., Lydia Price of Nashville, Tenn., Faith Heitman of Lewiston, Idaho, and Joye Land of Signal Mountain, Tenn.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bremerton Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Norman Jacobson
Norman Edgar Jacobson, 78, of Port Orchard died June 6 at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
He was born June 9, 1920, in Havelock, Iowa, to Albert and Charlotte Mary (Cole) Jacobson.
After leaving Havelock Consolidated High School, he worked in farming and carpentry until his induction into the Army during World War II. He served from 1942 to 1945, seeing duty in the European Theater where he was awarded three Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and numerous other medals.
He married
Helen M. (Grove) Gibson on Dec. 10, 1945, in DaKalb, Ill. They moved to California in 1947, where he worked in the container business until relocating to Olympia in 1962.
He and his wife worked for the state of Washington until he retired from The Evergreen State College in 1982, moving to Port Orchard.
He held memberships in the Eagles Aerie 2338, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2669, the Sons of Norway and the First Methodist Church in Olympia.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Julie Johnson of Bremerton and Joan Hannah of Mercer Island; a son, Jon of Port Orchard; four grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson of Bremerton, Colleen Hannah of Mercer Island, and Vicky and James Oleson of Ventura, Calif.; a stepgranddaughter, Kristen Hannah of Seattle; a brother, Burton Jacobson of Minnesota; and a sister, Lois Hibbs of Missouri. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Edward Jacobson Oleson; a daughter, Sally Ann Jacobson; and six siblings, Richard, Arthur, Francis, Doris, Alice and Iola.
A private service will be held Wednesday.
