Madeline Blankenbiller
Madeline Blankenbiller, 88, of Bremerton died June 8, 1999, of natural causes at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born March 12, 1911, in Oakland, Calif. She married
Wayne Blankenbiller on Jan. 11, 1930. He preceded her in death June 9, 1989.
She and her husband developed Blankenbillers Leghorn Farm and Hatchery, serving many grocery stores in South Kitsap and North Pierce counties.
She was a member of Business and Professional Women, Bremerton Elks 1181, St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard and later Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton. She and her husband were active in the Kitsap County Fair Association, the grange and in poultry associations.
She is survived by a daughter, Joann Gorton, and two grandsons.
There will be no services. Interment
will be at Sunset Lane cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.

Caroline Swearingen
Caroline Yvonne Swearingen, 53, of Bremerton died June 7, 1999, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage.
She was born Oct. 4, 1945, in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, to Alfred and Ivy (Taylor) Zurbrugg. She came to Bremerton at 6 months of age, growing up here and graduating from East High School in 1963.
She graduated from Cinderella Beauty School in Bremerton and later owned a salon on Kitsap Way. She also worked for the Kitsap County road department for 10 years.
She married
Stanley Swearingen on July 4, 1987, in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; two sons, Troy Yowell and Ty Potter, both of Bremerton; two stepsons, Jon Swearingen and Joshua Nordberg, both of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Diana Zurbrugg of Seattle; and a granddaughter, Chloe Potter of Bremerton. Her father preceded her in death in 1994.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed immediately by a funeral service.

Melanie Penor
Melanie Antoinette Penor, 39, of Seabeck died June 6, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Sept. 11, 1959, in Dallas to Howard Eugene Burlew and Marylynda Burke Moseley. She grew up in Tacoma, graduating from Stadium High School in 1978. She received two associate's degrees from Olympic College and had been named to the OC dean's list.
She served in the Army. She worked for Napa Auto Parts in Silverdale.
She married
Larry Penor in 1994 in Seabeck.
Survivors include her husband; her father; her mother and stepfather, John and Marylynda Burke, of Reno, Nev.; her grandparents, Thomas and Gloria Moseley of Clifton, Texas, and Betty Burlew of Dallas; two sons, Michael and John Healy, both of Seabeck; a daughter, Bridgett Healy of Seabeck; three stepdaughters, Danielle of Yuma, Ariz., and Lea Anne and Tara Louise, both of Bremerton; two brothers, Anthony and Russell Burlew, both of Dallas; three sisters, Casandra Walker of Dallas, Rachelle Burlew of Reno and Molly Cueto of Houston; and two grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo. Interment
will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Genevieve Newkirk
Genevieve Newkirk, 74, of Mount Carmel, Ill., died June 9, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ill.
She was born March 23, 1925, in Parkersburg, Ill., to William Camp and Lulu B. (Barker) Parker. She graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1944.
She married
Ivan K. Newkirk on Nov. 25, 1944, at Nesbit Chapel in Wabash County, Ill.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Mount Carmel, the historical society and the election board for several years.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kenneth of Selah and Leon of Bremerton; two sisters, Lucille Wilson of Olney, Ill., and Mary Ella Hout of Kingman, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Scott of Los Angeles and Heidi Herzog of Selah; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Short Funeral Home in Mount Carmel. A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Short Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial cemetery in Mount Carmel.

James Wanke
James Royal Wanke Sr., 64, of Bremerton died of a stroke June 8, 1999, at Bremerton Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born June 24, 1934, to Fred and Margaret (Royal) Wanke. He finished high school in Huntington Park, Calif.
Mr. Wanke served in the Marine Corps for four years. He achieved the rank of sergeant and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He married
Patti J. Skagen on Feb. 21, 1976, in Reno, Nev.
He was a truck driver at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1989 after 29 years.
Mr. Wanke was active with children in the 4-H Club, raising horses and racing them.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James Jr. of Kitsap County; a daughter, Melissa Garver of Yakima; three stepsons, Scott A. Scott and Harold Just, both of Kitsap County, and Daryl Leonard of King County; two brothers, Fred of California and Jack of Kitsap County; and six grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.

Louis Boroff
Louis G. Boroff, 92, of La Conner died June 9, 1999, in Stanwood in Snohomish County of natural causes.
He was born March 9, 1907, in Macosta, Mich., to Peter and Glenna Rose (Brobeck) Boroff.
He married
Martha Alexander on Dec. 25, 1927, in Chinook, Mont. She preceded him in death in 1963.
Mr. Boroff was a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1967. He was also a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge 472 in Remus, Mich.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Roper of La Conner; two sisters, Josephine Kleiser and Nina Hobson, both of Michigan; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lou, in 1934.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Josephine Sunset Chapel in Stanwood.
Kathleen Prouty
Kathleen Prouty, 82, of Poulsbo died May 30, 1999, at her home in the Breidablik area.
She was born July 15, 1916, in Poulsbo. She was educated in the North Kitsap School District.
She married
Vincent Prouty on June 4, 1938, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1995.
She had been an assistant postmistress in Poulsbo and a homemaker. She was a member of the Lady Elks, the Sons of Norway and a charter member of the Poulsbo Historical Society.
Survivors include a son, Gerald of Poulsbo; a daughter, Linda Eastwood of Poulsbo; a step-granddaughter, Dawn Gehring of Gig Harbor; and a great-grandson.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Sharon May Dillenburg, 45, of Bremerton died June 5, 1999, at her home.
She was born June 9, 1953, in Seattle to Herman E. and Opal L. (Schroeder) Witte. She grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1972.
She married
Mike Dillenburg in June 1995. She was a caregiver in long-term health care.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; a son, Michael Plaisana of Bremerton; a daughter, Cheryl Plaisana of Bremerton; two brothers, Ronald A. Witte of Walnut, Calif., and Raymond E. Witte of Bremerton; and a sister, Joanne Walters of California.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Navy Yard Bible Church in Bremerton. Interment

Vera M. Ward, 88, of Bremerton died June 8, 1999, at Bremerton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born May 12, 1911, in Bastrop, Texas, to Archie and Mary (Moore) Miller. She grew up in Texas.
She married
William D. Ward on March 10, 1948, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1985.
She was a member of Sinclair Missionary Baptist Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary E. Flippen of Bremerton, Norma Robinson of Dallas and Doretha Anderson of Colbert, Okla.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Benoit Ward, in 1995.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel, followed immediately by a funeral service. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
