Caroline Swearigen
Caroline Yvonne Swearigen, 53, of Bremerton died June 7, 1999, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.
She was born Oct. 4, 1945, in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, to Alfred and Ivy (Taylor) Zurbrugg. She came to Bremerton at 6 months of age, growing up here and graduating from East High School in 1963.
She graduated from Cinderella Beauty School in Bremerton and later owned a salon on Kitsap Way. She also worked for the Kitsap County road department for 10 years.
She married
Stanley Swearigen on July 4, 1987, in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; two sons, Troy Yowell and Ty Potter, both of Bremerton; two stepsons, Jon Swearigen and Joshua Nordberg, both of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Diana Zurbrugg of Seattle; and a granddaughter, Chloe Potter of Bremerton. Her father preceded her in death in 1994.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed immediately by a funeral service.

Patricia Rothenberg
Patricia Anne Rothenberg, 72, of Bremerton died June 7, 1999, of breast cancer.
She was born Feb. 8, 1927, to Paul M. and Marion E. Newman of Port Orchard. She spent many of her early years in Port Orchard.
During World War II, she married
Irving P. Lee, a sergeant in the Army. They lived in South Colby.
She married
Richard Rothenberg on July 4, 1974, living in Bremerton. Mr. Rothenberg preceded her in death on May 22, 1994.
In Bremerton, she worked for Discount Fabrics from 1970 to 1971, for Parker Lumber from 1972 to 1985, and for Saint Vincent de Paul from 1986 to 1992. She also was involved in the Kitsap County Historical Society, Master Gardeners and served as a past president of the Peninsula Fruit Club.
Survivors include a son, John Lee of Grapeview; three daughters, Joyce Grayson of Olympia, Peggy Carle of Tracyton and Mary Talarico of Bremerton; and three stepchildren, Phyllis Zornes of Silverdale and Jim Rothenberg and Delcie Rothenberg, both of Seattle.

Nadine Duensing
Nadine O. Duensing, 88, of Bremerton died June 3, 1999, at her home.
She was born Sept. 24, 1910, in Tumwater to Claude J. Olney and Nina Nadine Earl. She grew up in Ballard, graduating from Ballard High School in 1928.
She was homemaker for most of her life, having worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for a short time.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Alexander, in 1961 and by her second husband, Roy Duensing, in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Gary Alexander of Kent; a stepson, Paul Duensing of Watkinsville, Ga.; three grandchildren, Tracy Peters of Federal Way, Michelle Fankhauser of Everett and Becky Alexander of Seattle; and three great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no services. Interment
will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Benjamin Bragg
Benjamin Wayne Bragg, 36, of Lubbock, Texas, died June 3, 1999, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born Aug. 15, 1962, in Lubbock. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1981, where he was a member of the ROTC, later serving in the Army.
He worked for Norwest Bank and Checker Auto. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his parents, Paul and Nadine of Lubbock, and a brother, Paul, of Bremerton.
William Lewis
William Bucklin "Bill" Lewis, 80, grandson of Bainbridge Island and Crosby homesteaders, died June 6 in Hawaii.
Lewis was born in Crosby on July 29, 1918. He moved with his family to Edmonds in 1920, returning to Crosby in 1931, attending grade school in Crosby and high school in Silverdale.
In 1938, while working as a mechanic in the Chehalis and Centralia areas, he married
Charlotte Burfiend of Olympia. He then returned to Crosby to work as a logger and millworker.
Drafted into the Army in 1942, Mr. Lewis fought in Europe with the 71st Armored Division and was discharged in 1946, with the rank of sergeant.
In 1947, he and his father formed Lewis & Son Logging Co. of Crosby during the last big timber heyday in the Central Kitsap area. An accomplished pilot, he made several flights to Central America in the 1950s, setting up hardwood logging operations.
He supplied thousands of seedlings for Crosby Boy Scout tree-planting activities, and his company donated telephone poles so phone service could be extended from Wildcat Lake to Crosby. After moving to Seabeck in 1965, he developed family real estate holdings until the early 1990s, then started living part-time in Hawaii.
In 1981, he became a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 239 in Bremerton.
Survivors include his two sons, Jack of Hawaii and Bob of Seabeck; a daughter, Cheri of Seabeck; three sisters, Betty of San Gabriel, Calif., Priscilla of Prairie, Idaho, and Gwen of Bremerton; a brother, Warren of Seabeck; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
His wife preceded him in death in 1979. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Bob, of Georgia in 1997.
A family remembrance service will be held this summer.
James Heltemes
James L. Heltemes, 70, of Belfair died June 7, 1999, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born June 23, 1928, in St. Cloud, Minn., to James and Matilda (Thell) Heltemes. He grew up in St. Cloud.
He married
Dorothy Trushenski of Belfair on June 8, 1953, in St. Cloud.
Mr. Heltemes owned and operated Jim's Texaco in Seattle from 1968 to 1983. He later operated a Texaco station in Belfair, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the North Mason Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert and Gary, both of Seattle; a daughter, Lori Edgar of Seattle; five brothers, Denny of Rice, Minn., Ronald of Coon Rapids, Minn., Thomas of Osseo, Minn., and David and Billy, both of Gainesville, Fla.; seven sisters, Ramona Kleinschmidt of Glenwood, Minn., Mary Ann Rice of Moundsville, Minn., Patricia Dzulk of Elk River, Minn., Marge Rice of St. Joe, Minn., Joan Barthelemy of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Rose of Minneapolis, Minn., and Janet Flor of Princeton, Minn.; and one grandchild, Ryan Edgar of Seattle.
Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Belfair. Private inurnment will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.
Donald Behymer
Former Belfair resident Donald Lee Behymer, 66, died June 7, 1999, in Topeka, Kan., of cancer.
He was born May 18, 1933, in Topeka to Taylor and Nellie M. Behymer.
He married
Graceann Larson in 1961 in Newport, R.I. She preceded him in death in 1977.
Mr. Behymer served in the Navy for 27 years in both Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1972. He was a welder in the Navy and a chief petty officer.
He moved to Belfair upon his retirement. He moved to Topeka in March.
Survivors include a daughter, Krista Ann of Cambridge, Mass.; a son, Craig Edward of Portsmouth, R.I.; a twin sister, Darlene M. Hauck of Youngstown, Fla.; five other sisters, Ruth Ann Campbell of Santa Maria, Calif., Beverly A. Cash of Hutchinson, Kan., Sara J. Modrell of Pharr, Texas, and Nancy E. Tyler and Dolores J. Bayless, both of Topeka; a brother, George of Topeka; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home in Topeka. Mr. Behymer will lie in state from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday. Burial will be at Maple Hill cemetery in Maple Hill, Kan.

Jack Martin
Jack E. Martin, 85, of Kingston died June 5, 1999, at his home.
He was born in Rupert, Idaho, to Enos and Ella (Ray) Martin. He grew up in Hermiston, Ore., graduating from Hermiston High School in 1930, and from Oregon State College with a degree in civil engineering in 1938.
He married
Marion Elizabeth Pier on March 18, 1939, in Portland, Ore. She preceded him in death May 24, 1985.
Mr. Martin was self-employed as a land developer throughout his working life. He was the owner of Tri-Cities Sand & Gravel in Edmonds and Lake City Gravel in Seattle.
He developed Miller Bay Estates in Indianola. Because of his contributions to the community, Martin Marine Park in Indianola was named after him.
Mr. Martin was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the Association of General Contractors and the Elks Club.
Survivors include a son, David of Indianola; two daughters, Carol of Kingston and Judy of Poulsbo; seven grandchildren, Donna and Greta Martin of Seattle, Kendra Collins of Portland, Heidi Collins of Bremerton, and Joanne Bartlett, Suzanne Martin and Michelle Nicholson, all of Indianola; and two great-granddaughters.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

June Munson
June Lavelle Munson, 74, of Silverdale died June 6, 1999, at her home.
She was born June 5, 1925, to Floyd and Jewell (Griffith) Leonard. She grew up in Alturas, Calif., and in Redding, Calif., graduating from Shasta High School in 1943 and Shasta College, both in Redding.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Redding.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Haun of Silverdale; and two grandchildren, Alexys Haun and Brandon Haun.
Funeral services will be held Monday at McDonald's Chapel in Redding. Interment
will take place at Lawncrest Memorial Park in Redding. Local arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Ellen Docken
Ellen I. Docken, 82, of Bremerton died June 5, 1999, at her home.
She was born Feb. 7, 1917, in Suffolk, Mont. She was raised and educated in Tacoma, graduating from Lincoln High School.
She married
Sam Docken in 1954 in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Docken was a homemaker. She had been a den mother for many years for the Cub Scouts in Bremerton and was a former member of the Sons of Norway and the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Gene of Suquamish and John of San Jacinto, Calif.; a sister, Mary Zuhlke of California; a brother, Lester Jensen of California; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
