Emmanuel Brooks
Emmanuel Jamar Brooks, infant son of LaMar and Robin (Hassell) Brooks of Bremerton, was stillborn July 28, 1999, at Tacoma General Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Jarius Brooks of Bremerton; his paternal grandmother, Emily Weston of New Jersey; and his maternal grandmother, Martha Hassell of South Carolina.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Harry Downey
Harry J. Downey, 80, of Silverdale died July 28, 1999, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
He was born April 14, 1919, in Cleveland, to Arthur and Theresa (Krizek) Downey. He was raised and educated in the Cleveland area.
He married
Dorothy O. Mentz on Sept. 19, 1942, in Oklahoma City. She preceded him in death.
He married
Tarcela Policarpio on May 23, 1973.
Mr. Downey served in the Navy from 1942 to 1973. He retired as a lieutenant commander.
After his retirement from the Navy, he worked in building maintenance for Harrison Hospital for 10 years.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Aviation Ordnanceman Association and The Retired Officer's Association.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Theresa Margaret Franklin of Silverdale, Laura Anne Rollins of Bristow, Va., and Christine Joanne Read of Bremerton; a brother, William Downey of Medina, Ohio; seven stepchildren; two grandchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Downey.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Arlington National cemetery. Cremation is under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Joe MacColl
Joe T. MacColl, 72, of Silverdale died July 29, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 4, 1927, in Seattle to Ralph and Helen (Gunn) MacColl. He came to Bremerton as a teen, attending Bremerton High School.
He married
Mary Alice Brown on April 14, 1954, in Bremerton. They were married
45 years.
Mr. MacColl served in the Navy as a deep-sea diver. Following his naval service, he attended the University of Washington.
He worked as a naval architect in the design department of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in the late 1970s.
He was a member of the Kitsap Golf and Country Club for many years.
Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Richard Vlist of Bremerton; a daughter, Mary Jo Huff of Silverdale; and three grandchildren, Morgan and Brian Huff, both of Silverdale, and Heidi Vlist of Bremerton.
A day of visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with cremation to follow at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.

Royce Stockwell
Royce M. Stockwell, 75, of Port Orchard died July 29, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 1, 1924, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Charles and Emilina (Neilson) Stockwell. He was raised and educated in Sioux Falls.
He married
Kay Elmer on June 20, 1955, in Phoenix.
Mr. Stockwell served in the Navy from 1942 to 1967. He saw duty during World War II in the Battle of Midway aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown when it was sunk by the Japanese. He also served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Later, he worked as a real-estate agent with Roland and Roland in Purdy for 20 years. He retired in 1980.
Mr. Stockwell was a life member of the Port Orchard Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Club-Nile Temple, the Scottish Rite, the Order of the Easter Star, the CV5 Yorktown Survivors and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Mark Stockwell of Escondido, Calif., Charles Stockwell of Port Orchard, Harold Stockwell of Port Orchard and Gary Stockwell of Camby, Ore.; a brother, Jack Stockwell of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Lorraine Szymanski of Port Orchard and Betty Kaplan of Laguna, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Pruner, and a sister, Lenora Nelson.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard, where interment also will take place.

David Hinkle
David E. Hinkle, 52, of Belfair died July 26, 1999, at his home of AIDS.
He was born July 29, 1946, in Sewickley, Pa., to Lee Edward and Merle Irma (Elwood) Hinkle. He grew up in Pennsylvania.
He married
Jean Hagedorn on June 2, 1969, in Phoenix.
Mr. Hinkle served in the Army from 1964 to 1965. He was the human resources supervisor for Best Business Enterprises & Consultants in Seattle, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the Mason County HIV/AIDS Advisory Council.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen Gainer of Akron, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Damian and Krystal Gainer, both of Akron. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
A private memorial gathering will be at 11 a.m. today at the family home. Inurnment will take place at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Alice Thiessen
Alice Emily Thiessen, 96, of Port Orchard died July 27, 1999, in Port Orchard.
She was born Jan. 26, 1903, in Faulk County, S.D., to Burnett M. and Lillian A. (Chapman) Devine. She grew up in Faulk County, graduating from Cresbard High School in Cresbard, S.D.
She married
Martin Thiessen in Sacramento, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She was an opera singer and artist (painting). She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Christian Science Church.
Survivors include two sons, David Hare of Allyn and Willard Hare of California; a sister, Ruby Harris of Lodi, Calif.; two grandchildren, Steven Hare of Cocalla, Idaho, and Michael Hare of Belfair; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur and James Devine.
Entombment will take place at Sacramento Memorial Lawn in Sacramento. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Roma Lassiter
Roma Arlene Lassiter, 74, of Silverdale died July 28, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born April 24, 1925, in Seattle to Arthur and Sarah (Heaton) Donaldson.
She grew up in Seattle, attending Franklin High School in Seattle and Olympic College in Bremerton.
She married
Thomas Lassiter in Grays Harbor. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a son, William Daly of Fife; and a brother, Walter Allen of Bremerton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Donaldson.
A private family service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Donna Fein
Donna Alyce Fein, 52, of Port Orchard died July 26, 1999, at Harrison Hospital of emphysema.
She was born Sept. 10, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio, to Donald Monroe and Gloria (Farina) Rymer. She grew up in Olalla, attending Olalla Elementary School, Gig Harbor Middle School and graduating from Peninsula High School in Purdy.
She was a homemaker and held an associate degree in math and drafting. She had been a member of the '49ers Club and was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Olalla Grange.
Survivors include her mother, Gloria Rymer of Port Orchard; three sons, John Sinkler of Michigan, Fred Fein Jr. of Rosedale and Gary Wise of Tacoma; a daughter, Romona Wise of Alaska; two brothers, William Rymer of Port Orchard and Donald Rymer of Vancouver, Wash.; four sisters, Bobby Merrick of Port Orchard, Carol Lillie of Lakebay, Romona Franck of Belfair and Pauline Rymer of Purdy; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Hunter Sinkler, both of Michigan.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. today at SunRise Care & Rehabilitation of Oyster Bay in Bremerton, followed by a family gathering.

Edna Fletcher
Edna Iris Fletcher, 82, of Bremerton died July 25, 1999, at her home. She had been a resident of Kitsap County for the past 59 years.
She was born March 18, 1917, in Tacoma to Fred and Charlotte (Obryan) Thaut. She was raised and educated in Tacoma, graduating from Lincoln High School there in 1935.
She married
Robert E. Fletcher on Dec. 28, 1971, in Auburn.
Mrs. Fletcher began working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1951, retiring as a coordinator from the public works and supply departments in 1978.
She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dennis Bale of Chimacum and Allen Bale of Kent; a sister, Virginia Pease of Port Angeles; and five grandchildren, Denise and Jacob Bale of Chimacum and Diane Spencer, Robert Bale and Michell Purdue, all of Kent; and six great-grandchildren.
At the family's request, there will be no services. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Catherine Granum
Catherine Viola Granum, 88, of Southworth died July 23, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born May 27, 1911, in Minot, N.D., to Angus and Grace (Blum) Stewart. She grew up in North Dakota.
She married
Vic Granum on June 10, 1933, in Bismarck, N.D. He preceded her in death in 1985.
She was a member of the Curley Greek Grange and the Gallimaufry Writers' Club, both in Port Orchard.
Survivors include three sons, Harold Granum of Roswell, Ga., Douglas Granum of Southworth and Richard Burkhardt of Port Angeles; a daughter, Arline Gean of Woodland Hills, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
