Clardy Cartwright Jr.
Clardy "Chuck" Lee Cartwright Jr., 49, of Poulsbo died July 14, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Cartwright was born Feb. 17, 1950, in Cleveland to Clardy Lee and Marilyn (Reid) Cartwright. He grew up in Cleveland, graduated from East Technical High School in Cleveland, and later attended the Cleveland Institute of Electronics.
He married
Eunice F. Mann on Jan. 30, 1999, in Poulsbo.
Mr. Cartwright served in the Navy from 1970 to 1976 as an electronics mechanic on many vessels. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as an electronic technician for 20 years until his 1999 retirement.
He was a member of the Hamma Hamma Masonic Lodge No. 35 in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Clardy Lee Cartwright III of Atlanta; two daughters, Clarissa Cartwright of Atlanta and Myisha Cartwright of California; four brothers, Reginald Bell and Gaylen, Kevin and Bryan Cartwright, all of Cleveland; two sisters, Carolyn Thomas and Enid Bell of Cleveland; and two grandchildren, Robin and Heaven of California.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Poulsbo Mortuary.

Daniel Mack
Daniel V. Mack, 80, of Bremerton died July 14, 1999, at Belmont Care Center in Bremerton.
He was born March 9, 1919, in Watford City, N.D., to Earl and Mable (Mathieu) Mack.
He married
Doris Kotlan on June 28, 1943. She died in 1975. He later married
Ann Paxtoon.
Mr. Mack worked as a carpenter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1981. Prior to that, he was employed by Johnson Lumber.
He was a member of Bethel Grange and local bowling associations.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Randall W. Mack of Hawaii; three daughters, Jeanette Kelso and Renee Amundsen, both of Bremerton, and Janice Pelkey of Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Donald M. Mack-Oklee of Minnesota and Vernon L. Mack-Cushing of Oklahoma; a sister, Nellie Anson of Bremerton; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Milton Mack; and two sisters, Clara Wheeler of Bremerton and Edna Pinnick of Port Orchard.
Visitation will be from from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Miller Woodlawn Chapel. Burial will follow at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Tiffany Grant
Tiffany Evelyn Grant, 18, of Kingston died July 15, 1999, in Kingston.
She was born Oct. 12, 1980, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Donald and Jilanne (Hopkins) Grant. She attended Kingston Junior High School, North Kitsap High School and the Spectrum School in Kingston.
Miss Grant most recently worked for the M & M Texaco. She enjoyed hiking and swimming.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Jilanne and Daniel Lyda of Kingston; her father and stepmother, Donald and Becky Grant of Castana, Iowa; a brother, Dane Grant of Kingston; and grandparents Jim and Jeri Hopkins of Onawa, Iowa, and Lefty and Ev Grant of Mapleton, Iowa.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo. A reception will follow. Final services and burial will take place in Iowa.
Memorial donations may be made to the Tiffany Grant Memorial Fund at the Poulsbo or Bainbridge Island branches of American Marine Bank.
Edward Haley
Edward Virgil Haley, 78, of Yacolt in Clark County and formerly of Bainbridge Island, died July 8, 1999, while vacationing in Chamberlain, S.D.
He was born May 30, 1921, in Chamberlain to Virgil and Margaret (Dominiack) Haley. He grew up in Chamberlain, graduating from Chamberlain High School in 1939.
He married
Frances Virginia Wason on June 26, 1940, in Broadus, Mont. She preceded him in death on May 12, 1990.
Mr. Haley served in the Army during World War II. He worked as a retail clerk on Bainbridge Island from 1958 to 1970, primarily at the Lynwood Center Market.
Survivors include his children, Ruth Ann Playter and her husband, William, of Bainbridge Island, Michael Haley of Bainbridge Island,
Kathleen Lowry and her husband, Don, of Chelan, and Rebecca Cahoon and her husband, Darrell, of Yacolt; a brother, Pat of Rochester, Minn.; sisters, Virginia Wolcott of Chamberlain, Dorothy Grimm of Bremerton, and Karen Rose of Boulder City, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward V. Haley, Jr., his mother, his father, a brother, Floyd, and three sisters, Hazel Haley, Leone Christy and Irene Sinclair.
At his request, no memorial service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Fitima Hawley
Fitima Ayanna Hawley, 27, of Bremerton died July 11, 1999, near Black Diamond by accidental drowning.
She was born Nov. 16, 1971, in Fort Bragg, N.C., to Vincent and Cheryl (Hawley) Small. She grew up in Georgia.
She was a participant in K-Careers and a Head Start parent volunteer. She also volunteered with Labor and Industries.
She is survived by her parents of Smyrna, Ga.; a son, Dominique Gilbert of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Jasmine Hawley and Shurlen Alphonso, both of Smyrna; brothers, Joaquin, Kobie and Kamal Hawley, all of Bremerton; sisters, Tiasha Small of Smyrna and Andrea Hawley of Bremerton; and her grandmother, Constance Gardner of Norristown, Penn.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 2225 Perry Ave., in Bremerton.

Stanley Weinkauf
Stanley Arthur Weinkauf, 76, of Lakewood, Calif. and Port Orchard, died July 13, 1999, at his home in Port Orchard of melanoma.
He was born March 24, 1923, in Pipestone, Minn., to Arthur F. and Margaret C. (Jepsen) Weinkauf. He grew up in Minnesota, graduating from Pipestone High School.
He married
Marion Szabo on March 9, 1946, at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York.
Mr. Weinkauf served in the Navy from 1942 to 1947. He spend the early years of World War II in the North Atlantic and the remainder of the war in the Pacific aboard a submarine tender.
He was a Ford mechanic for 36 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lakewood and a crew reunion member of the submarine tender USS Eurayle.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Darryl of Port Orchard and David of Cerritos, Calif.; a daughter, Adrienne Milton of Camarillo, Calif.; brothers, Arthur and James, both of South Dakota, Roger of Ore., and Duane of Minnesota; sisters, Esther Lee, Marjorie Heinz, Mary Lou Davids, Maxine Evans and Margaret Gonnermann, all of Minnesota, Joanne Olson of California and Jeanette Diaz of Indiana; grandchildren, Brooke and Danielle Milton, both of California, Madelyn and Skyler Weinkauf, both of Port Orchard, and Kaitlyn Weinkauf of Garden Grove, Calif.
A private family gathering will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Rita Fuhrman
Rita Marie Fuhrman, 66, of Silverdale died July 15, 1999, in Silverdale.
She was born Jan. 24, 1933, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Roy and Corrine (McDonald) Baugh. She grew up in Kalamazoo, graduating from St. Augustine High School there.
She married
Richard E. Fuhrman on June 30, 1951, in Kalamazoo.
Mrs. Fuhrman organized and developed Stephen Ministries at Holy Trinity Parish, where she was also a member of the Ladies Guild. She was the recipient of a medal of merit from the Knights of Columbus for her spiritual and community work. She was a member of the OK Sam Club local chapter.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Stephen of Gig Harbor; daughters, Sandra Salinas of Woodinville, and Linda Harris of Silverdale; seven grandchildren, Janel of Bellevue, Kathleen and Jeff, both of Woodinville, Brooke and Nicole, both of Gig Harbor, Jamie of Bullhead City, Ariz. and Kim of Henderson, Nev. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Norris.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday also at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Florence Stetson
Florence Estella Stetson, 77, of Port Orchard died July 8, 1999, in Port Orchard of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
She was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Port Orchard, to Loyal L. and Estella (McDonald) Stetson. She grew up in Port Orchard, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1940.
She was a member of Campfire Girls.
She is survived by a brother, Robert Stetson of Pacifica, Calif.
A private service was conducted July 14 at Ridgemont Senior Citizen Apartments in Port Orchard. Inurnment took place at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
William Giles
William T. "Tom" Giles, 74, of Bremerton died July 10, 1999, at Harrison Hospital of pancreatic cancer.
He was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Muskogee, Okla., to George C. and Vinnie Lella Belle (McCage) Giles. He was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, moving to Bremerton at age 18.
Mr. Giles served in the Army. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 29, 1949.
He married
Dolores A. Root on Jan. 28, 1955, in Bremerton. They were married
for 44 years.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter and later as a planner and estimator for the public works department. He retired in 1979 after 34 years of service.
Mr. Giles drove the Kitsap Transit bus for PSNS employees for 15 years. He also worked as a reserve police officer for the Bremerton Police Department.
He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 1181. He also was an active member of the Kitsap Banjo Club, the National Rifle Association, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a volunteer for the Association of Retarded Citizens.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Perry, Iowa; a son, Kyle Giles and his wife, Julie, of Bremerton; a daughter, Rene' Giles-Corey of Bremerton; a brother F.A. "Andy" Giles of Melrose, Iowa; two sisters, Virginia Butler of Indianola, Iowa and Barbara Harvey of Perry, Iowa; grandchildren, Benjamin Giles and Tiffany Corey, both of Bremerton; and an adoptive son, Miles Van Epps of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by his father and by a sister, Georgia Johnson, both in 1982.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20 at Bremerton Elks Lodge 1181, 4131 Pine Road NE. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Elizabeth F. Gruber
Elizabeth F. Gruber, 95, of Bremerton died July 13, 1999, at Twilight Years Adult Family Home in Port Orchard.
She was born March 3, 1904, in Moberly, Mo., to Henry and Stella (Mote) Ashlock. She grew up in Moberly.
She married
Joseph Gruber on Oct. 31, 1929, in Montesano, Wash. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gruber was a munitions worker with National Air Defense, loading bombs during World War II.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Bremerton and in Ellensburg.
Survivors include sons Robert of Metaline Falls, James of Soap Lake, David of Ellensburg, and Joseph "Bill" Jr. and Frederick "Fred, " both of Port Orchard; daughters Loreta Martens of Bremerton, Ruth Arnhold of Lake City, and Lois Boyd of Port Orchard; 28 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
