Jeri Thompson
Geraldine "Jeri" Ann Thompson, 66, of Tahuya died July 7, 1999, at her home.
She was born April 4, 1933, in Nortonville, N.D., to Harold Nicholas and Eva Mae (Berge) Jordan. She grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School.
She married
Bill E. Thompson on Sept. 29, 1951, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Thompson worked for the Bremerton School District for 18 years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Eagles in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Mark of Poulsbo; three daughters, Anita Goodpasture of Everett, Annette Butcher of Belfair, and Cheryl of Port Orchard; two brothers, Leroy Jordan of Seabeck and Larry Jordan of Bremerton; two sisters, Beverly Jolley of Port Orchard and Arlene Schultz of Tahuya; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A time of fellowship for family and friends will follow. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.

William Faught
William Berryman Faught, 80, of Bremerton died July 11, 1999, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He was born March 28, 1919, in Berkeley, Calif., to Norman and Esther (Wade) Faught. He started school school in Berkeley, then moved at a young age to Boonville, Calif., graduating from Boonville High School and attending college in San Francisco.
Mr. Faught served in the Merchant Marines during World War II as a navigator/cargo mate. He was retired.
He had been a member of the American Legion in Clearwater, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Pho (Pan) Faught; sons, William Jr. of the Grand Cayman Islands and David of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Thelma Urquia of New York and Joyce Avlakeotes of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a half sister, Esther Vannucci of Sequim; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will take place at Evergreen cemetery in Boonville.

Elmer Froewiss
Elmer Clark Froewiss, 79, of Bremerton died July 11, 1999, in Bremerton.
He was born March 18, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Elmer Matthew and Helen Babcock Corinne Froewiss. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1938.
Mr. Froewiss worked as a stage hand on Broadway until his enlistment in the Navy in 1939. He was serving aboard the USS Richmond in the Pacific when Pearl Harbor was attacked.
His World War II service continued in the South Pacific and with the Alaska campaign in the Aleutian Islands. He also participated in the Korean conflict aboard the ammunition ship USS Vesuvius. He retired from the Navy in 1958, as a warrant officer.
Following his retirement, he enrolled in Olympic College, later graduating from Seattle University with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1961.
Mr. Froewiss worked in the Engineering and Evaluation Laboratory at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Keyport until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of the Washington State Society of Professional Engineers.
He was a life long member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks and the Eagles.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Eleanor Buell; two stepsons, John Bachaud of Port Orchard and Gregory Bachaud of Spokane; a brother, Robert of Texas; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Patricia Plaisance
Patricia Carolyn Plaisance, 74, of Bremerton died July 11, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Vancouver, Wash., to Thomas W. and Mary Carolyn (Dignam) Hyer. She spent her early years in Port Angles and Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1942.
She married
Richard T. Plaisance on Oct. 28, 1978, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Plaisance worked for the Bremerton Housing Authority for 28 years, retiring in 1982. She had been a member of the Lady Lions and Altrusa.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Nancy Koch of Bremerton; two stepdaughters, Karen Young of Baltimore, Md. and Gale Holte of Bremerton; a stepson, Bruce of Bremerton; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton. A graveside service will follow at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Leo Sortor
Leo Stanley Sortor, 91, of Kingston died July 8, 1999, at Martha and Mary Health Center in Poulsbo.
He was born July 30, 1907, in Monroe, Mich., to Elmer and Lillian (Baker) Sortor.
Mr. Sortor married
Nellie E. Wright in Los Angeles.
He graduated from trade school in Los Angeles as a machinist. He worked for Lockheed Aircraft and for Boeing.
The Sortors moved to Kingston in December 1960, where they owned and operated Sortor's Grocery for 10 years. Mr. Sortor then became a commercial fisherman, operating out of Neah Bay for six years until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Galyn of Nordland; two daughters, Beverly Leahy of Albany, Ore. and Janet Daniel of Kingston; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Neil, and by a grandson, Kenneth, both of Port Orchard.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday also at Stone Chapel. Burial will take place at Eglon cemetery in near Poulsbo.
William Ferguson Sr.
William E. Ferguson Sr., 70, of Bremerton died July 10, 1999, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale of cancer.
He was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Deming, N.M., to Robert J. and Eva (Motley) Ferguson. He grew up in Ajo, Ariz. and in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1946, and attending Olympic College.
He married
Donna Jean Weaver on Dec. 6, 1950, in Los Angeles.
Mr. Ferguson served in the Army and the Navy. He served aboard the USS Rogers and was present at the signing of the armistice treaty aboard the USS Missouri.
His military honors include: the World War II Victory Medal; the Korean Service Medal; the China Service Medal; and the United Nations Ribbon.
Mr. Ferguson worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 35 years, from 1950 to 1985. He had been a steamfitter and pipefitter, retiring as a planner and estimator.
He was a member of the Eagles from 1963 to 1964, the Elks from 1974 to 1985, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) from 1985 to the present.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Jr. of Everett and Mark of Tumwater; and four grandchildren.
Private services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.

Maxine Clark
Maxine Ellen Clark, 77, of Holly died July 8, 1999, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 5, 1921, in Edmonds, to William and Margaret (Schuster) Cogswell. She was the stepdaughter of Cappy Seiling. She grew up in Edmonds, graduating from Edmonds High School in 1939.
She married
Howard Clark on Oct. 26, 1941, in Richmond Highlands, Wash.
Mrs. Clark worked for many years as a secretary for the Shoreline School District and for the Edmonds School District.
She was a member of the Holly Community Club, the Elks and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Larry of Shelton and Randy of Auburn; grandchildren, Dana, Shannon, Kelly, Tracy, Windi, Kyle, Doris and Jason; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Holly Community Club at a later date. Inurnment will take place at Holly cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

'Billie' Broughton
Eloise " Billie" Broughton, 78, of Belfair died July 10, 1999, at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood.
She was born March 8, 1921, in Atlantic, Iowa, to James and Esmaralda Hewitt.
After serving in the Navy, she worked for the Department of Agriculture and was the first female deputy sheriff in Kitsap County.
Outside the job, she enjoyed cross-stitching and golfing.
She and William Broughton married
March 29, 1946, in Port Orchard. He died in 1996.
Survivors include sons William of Belfair and James of Grapeview and four grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made the fire district in Belfair or Silverdale.
Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.
Florence Black
Florence Catherine Black, 95, of Bremerton died of heart failure July 9, 1999, at Bremerton Convalescent Center.
She was born March 10, 1904, in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, to Francis and Bertha (Grafenstatt) Maddock. She was raised and educated in Canada.
In 1923, she married
Judson H. Black in Canada. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Survivors include a son, Judson F. Black of Bremerton; a daughter, Lois F. McCarty of Eugene, Ore.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is at 11 a.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home with interment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
