Donald Jenkin
Donald Leon Jenkin, 74, of Port Orchard died July 3, 1999, at his home.
He was born March 3, 1925, in Kewanee, Ill., to Samuel Leon and Bernice Ione (Marley) Jenkin. He grew up in Kewanee, graduating from high school there.
He married
Shirley Alice Wuske on March 3, 1945, in Kewanee.
Mr. Jenkin served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II, from 1944 to 1946, and after in the burn unit of San Mateo Army Hospital in San Mateo, Calif.
Mr. Jenkin graduated from the University of Illinois. He pursued graduate and post-graduate studies at Mary Crest College, where he attained a doctorate in education.
He was superintendent of schools for more than six years with the Kasbeer, Ill., public school system. He retired in 1981.
Mr. Jenkin was a member of the American Legion, the Mississippi Modified Hot Rod Association and a charter member of Hot Rod magazine.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gerald Jenkin of Bremerton; three daughters, Judith Rockefeller of Chicago, Donna Maynard of Sacramento, Calif., and Sarah Krieger of Port Orchard; two sisters, Donetta Johnson of Dewitt, Iowa, and Ruth Ann Leonard of Clinton, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by a procession to Ivy Green cemetery on Naval Avenue in Bremerton for burial.

Robert Walker
Former Bremerton resident Robert Earl Walker, 65, of Palm Springs, Calif., died July 5, 1999, in Taos, N.M.
He was born June 10, 1934, in Memphis, Tenn., to Russell Reuben and Elma (Wright) Walker. He grew up in Memphis, graduating from Central High School there in 1951 and from Memphis State College.
He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1957.
In 1989, he received his chemical dependency certification from Seattle University where he had been an intern. He pursued continuing education in chemical dependency treatment at Northwest Indian College in Bellingham through 1997.
He married
Betty Jean Day on Oct. 24, 1997, in Las Vegas.
Mr. Walker served in the Navy Medical Corps from 1959 to 1986. He was a captain in the corps and executive officer of the naval hospital in Guam.
Later in Kitsap County, he worked in general practice with the S'Klallam Tribe, as an instructor at Olympic College, as head of obstetrics at Naval Hospital Bremerton and as chemical dependency treatment director at Harrison Hospital.
Prior to his retirement in 1998, he worked simultaneously as treatment director with Agape Unlimited in Bremerton and with Olympus Counseling in Poulsbo and as a physician with the Kitsap Recovery Center.
He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League, Alcoholics Anonymous, Greenpeace, the Sierra Club and the Central Kitsap High School Band Boosters.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Michael Walker of Seattle, Nathan Sultemeier of Olalla, Joshua Gray of Running Springs, Calif., and Stephen Sultemeier of Puyallup; four daughters, Stacey Walker Drake of Northridge, Calif., Cindy Guerrero of Bremerton, Lara Gray of Redmond and Eloise Gray of Wenatchee; a sister, Betty Green of Memphis; and 11 grandchildren, Ben and Zachary Drake, both of Northridge, Timothy, David, Elizabeth, Brandon and Matthew Guerrero, all of Bremerton, Karissa, Nathan and Kayde Sultemeier, all of Puyallup, and Nicole Sultemeier of Port Orchard.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Jean Walker, and by his second wife, Christine Gray Walker.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Cancer Society, Agape Unlimited or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Madeline Leaver
Madeline Ruth (Slater) Leaver, 78, of Bremerton died June 9, 1999, at her home.
She was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Portland, Ore. As a small child, she moved to Bremerton, where she resided until her death.
She was married
to Walter L. Leaver Sr., who preceded her in death in January 1997.
She is survived by two daughters, Geri Hammargren of Brier and Helen Peters of Kennewick; a son, Walter Leaver Jr. of Renton; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Leaver.
Mrs. Leaver was a member of the West Bremerton Garden Club.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at West Side Baptist Church in Bremerton.

Tommy Rogers
Carl "Tommy" Rogers, 79, of Retsil died July 4, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Snohomish.
Mr. Rogers served in the Army during World War II, a veteran of 17 months in the European Theater. He was a member of the 315th Engineers, 90th Division, Third Army.
He was a jeep driver for his commanding officer. He participated in the landing on Omaha Beach and in the Battle of the Bulge.
His military honors include the European Theater Ribbon with four stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Drivers Medal.
Mr. Rogers worked as a truck driver in road construction.
Survivors include a cousin, June Couch of Belfair.
An inurnment service will be held at the G.A.R. cemetery in Snohomish at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral & Cremation Services of Bremerton.
Wayne Wilson
Wayne Allen Wilson, 59, of Port Orchard died July 3, 1999, at his home.
He was born July 8, 1939, in Gunnison, Colo.
He married
Wanda Joann Mathews in Tucson, Ariz., in 1960.
Mr. Gunnison served in the Navy. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator in gold and copper mines.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ralph of Port Orchard; and three grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral & Cremation Services of Bremerton.
Viola Shinn
Viola Lillian Shinn, 67, of Lakebay died July 6, 1999, in Lakebay.
She was born Sept. 13, 1931, in Longmont, Colo. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, James of San Diego, Wes of Lakebay, and Charles of Bellingham; a daughter, Kathi Keenan of Redmond; two brothers, Daniel Shipley of Golden, Colo., and Dave Shipley of International Falls, Minn.; two sisters, Eugena Johnson of Bonnieville, Ky., and Mary Morrell of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and six grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral & Cremation Services of Bremerton.

Ethel Fredrikson
Ethel Christina Fredrikson, 97, of Gig Harbor died July 4, 1999, at Cottesmore Nursing Home in Gig Harbor.
She was born May 17, 1902, in Joliet, Ill., to Andrew and Emma Johnson. She grew up in the Scandia area near Poulsbo, graduating from Broadway High School in Seattle in 1920.
She married
Francis "Fred" Fredrikson in Scandia on July 15, 1923. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Fredrikson was a member of First Baptist Church in Gig Harbor.
Survivors include two sons, Dean Fredrikson of Bemidji, Minn., and Dale Fredrikson of Yacolt, Wash.; a daughter, Fay Habich of Manchester; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Scandia Bible Church. Interment
will take place at Mountain View cemetery in Silverdale.

Gerdena Kouts
Gerdena Mae Kouts, 89, a resident of the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil, died July 2, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 24, 1909, to James and Elva (Murphy) Johnston in Prairie City, Iowa.
In 1925, she graduated from Iola High School in Iola, Kan. She later attended Portland Business College in Portland, Ore. In 1926, she moved to Vancouver, Wash.
On Nov. 22, 1934, she married
William M. Kouts in Stevenson, Wash. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Kouts was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Ardena Miller of Port Orchard; two grandchildren, Lisa Recknagle of Tacoma and Shannon Adams of Renton; and three great-grandsons. A daughter, Judy Kouts, preceded her in death in 1943.
A private family memorial is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.
Wilbur Jones
Wilbur Lewellyn Jones, 84, of Port Orchard died July 1, 1999, in Port Orchard of natural causes.
He was born March 25, 1915, in Las Vegas, N.M., to Fred and Viola (Ground) Jones. He grew up in Willowneck, Calif.
He married
Durley Sutton on May 18, 1941, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were married
until Mrs. Jones' death in 1997.
Mr. Jones served in the Navy submarine service from 1932 to 1955. He received two Bronze Stars while serving in the South China Sea and two China Service Medals, among other honors.
After working for eight years as a machinist in Shop 38 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Mr. Jones retired in 1977.
He was a third-degree black belt in jujitsu, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Off Reservation Indians Organization, the Indian Guides and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was involved with Boy and Girl Scouting.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Jones of Somerset, Calif., and Michael Jones of South Colby; two daughters, Candy Fulton of Gilberton and Suzanne Jones of Seattle; and five grandchildren, Sean, Scott, David, Christopher and Levi. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
