Andrew Fuller
Andrew S. "Andy" Fuller, 93, of Port Orchard died July 1, 1999, in Port Orchard of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 20, 1905, in Park Falls, Wisc., to Andrew S. and Mary Christine (Vollbach) Fuller. He grew up in Oregon City and Milwaukee, Ore.
He married
Helen Hannaford in Mount Vernon, Wash., on June 7, 1942.
Mr. Fuller worked for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1933 until 1946. He drove a school bus for the South Kitsap School District from 1958 until his retirement in 1972. After retiring, he traveled and spent the winters in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Judith Helen Munger of Port Orchard; and one grandson, David Munger of Port Orchard. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert C. Fuller.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rill Chapel. Private committal will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Jack Hirschel
Jack Lawrence Hirschel, 68, of Port Hadlock died July 1, 1999, at Regional Hospital for Respiratory & Complex Care in Seattle.
He was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Chimacum. He married
Maxine Elizabeth Kimball on Feb. 15, 1955, in Aberdeen.
Mr. Hirschel served in the Navy during the Korean War. He spent 33 years as a truck driver, and retired in 1986 from Indian Island Base.
Survivors include his wife, a son, Robert Hirschel of Port Hadlock, two daughters, Lillian Conner of LaPorte, Texas, and Elizabeth Hirschel of Port Hadlock; four brothers, Marvin Hirschel of San Jose, Calif., James Hirschel of Port Hadlock, Alvin Hirschel of Port Hadlock, and Henry P. Hirschel Jr. of Port Angeles; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kosec Funeral Home. Committment will be at Greenwood Cemetary.
Stanley Schaber
Stanley Willis Schaber, 68, of Port Orchard died July 2, 1999, at Harrison Hospital of heart failure.
He was born July 21, 1930, in Los Angeles to Abraham B. and Myrtle Lincoln (Stark) Schaber. He grew up in Stockton City, Calif., and Snohomish, graduating from Snohomish High School in 1948. He attended Walla Walla College in College Place and graduated in 1961.
Mr. Schaber married
Virginia Rose Hanson on December 21, 1949, in Portland, Ore.
He retired in 1992 from his job as a construction supervisor.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Neil Schaber of Los Angeles and Donald Schaber of Poulsbo; a daughter, Donna Ayers of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Phyllis Moore of Middleton, Idaho; six grandchildren, Darrell, Dustin and David Schaber of Poulsbo, Jordan and Lindsey Ayers of Portland, Ore., and Brooke Ada of North Carolina; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Port Orchard Seventh-day Adventist Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rill's Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, 400 E. Pine St., Suite 220, Seattle.
Paulette Clifford
Paulette Madeline Clifford, 68, of Port Orchard died July 2, 1999, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
She was born Jan. 27, 1931, to Paul and Antoinette (Douet) Lasnier in Chinon, France. She was raised and educated in France.
On Dec. 26, 1960, she married
Gary Harold Clifford in Azay-Le-Rideau, France.
Mrs. Clifford was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Elaine Paulette Clifford of Port Orchard and Brenda Louise Robinson of Tacoma; a brother, Raymond Lasnier of France; and two grandchildren, Ian David Robinson and Ginger Louise Robinson, both of Tacoma.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard with interment to follow at Sunset Lane cemetery.

Gerdena Konts
Gerdena Mae Konts, 89, a resident of the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil, died July 2, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 24, 1909, to James and Elva (Murphy) Johnston in Prairie City, Iowa.
In 1926, she graduated from Isla High School in Isla, Kan. She later attended the Portland Business College in Portland, Ore.
On Nov. 22, 1934, she married
William M. Konts. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Konts was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Ardena Miller of Port Orchard; and two grandchildren, Lisa Recknagle of Tacoma and Shannon Adams of Renton.
Her daughter, Judy Konts, preceded her in death in 1943.
A private family memorial is planned.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.
Donald Creson
Donald O. Creson, 85, of Bremerton died of cancer July 1, 1999, in Edmonds.
He was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Portland, Ore., to William Jesse and Lula Mae (Craven) Creson. He was raised and educated in Newburg, Ore. He graduated from Newburg High School in 1932.
Mr. Creson served in the Navy from 1936 to 1941. In 1977, he retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after 42 years.
He was a member of the VFW, Fleet Reserve, South China Patrol and was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church for 40 years.
His wife, Ileene J. Creson, preceded him in death in January.
Survivors include a daughter, Janis Smith of Edmonds; four grandchildren, Shannon Skates of Lake City and Cherie, Jennifer and Julie Smith, all of Edmonds; and two great-grandchildren.
Services and arrangements will be in Sherwood, Ore.
Memorials may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church in Sherwood or to the American Cancer Society.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Francis Bankes
Francis V. Bankes, 88, of Bremerton died June 30, 1999, in Bremerton of natural causes.
He was born March 17, 1911, in Independence, Kan., to Walter and Grace (Heritage) Bankes. He grew up in Bartlesville, Okla. and in Sedro Woolley, graduating from Sedro Woolley High School in 1930.
He met Elizabeth Anna Hulse on Sept. 14, 1935. The couple married
14 days later on Sept. 28, 1935, in Long Beach, Calif. They were married
52 years, until Mrs. Bankes' death in 1987.
Mr. Bankes served in the Navy from 1931 to 1937. He served aboard the USS Maryland (BB-46).
He worked as a shipfitter for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 32 years, retiring in 1966. He later worked for Todd Shipyard in Seattle, retiring in 1969.
Mr. Bankes was a member of Boilermakers-Blacksmiths Local 104. He had also been a member of three bowling leagues.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Bankes of Puyallup and Cecil Bankes of Los Angeles; two daughters, Thora Messner of Bremerton and Debra Fraker of Cheraw, Colo.; a brother, Robert O. Bankes of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Mary Martha Simon of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Tracy Clark of Puyallup, Dean and Glenn Messner, both of Bremerton, and Vince and Rebecca Fraker, both of Cheraw; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son, Gary.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be indoors at 11 a.m. Tuesday also at Miller-Woodlawn.

Gladys Bartsch
Gladys Margaret Bartsch, 77, of Poulsbo died June 30, 1999, at Harborview Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Huron, S.D., to George and Maude (Ingalls) Schwartz. She was raised and educated in Huron.
She had worked as a nursing assistant for most of her life at the Lake Preston Nursing Home in Lake Preston, S.D.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Huron and in Poulsbo.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Gardner of Germany and Larry Gardner of Silverdale; three daughters, Carol Palmer of Bowdle, S.D., and Shirley Sheppard and Jane Wright, both of Silverdale; a brother, Willie Schwartz of South Dakota; a sister, Effie Hoover of Wisconsin; and 14 grandchildren, Kristopher Gardner of Alaska, Anastasia Gardner, Kristy Gardner, Jack Palmer, John Palmer, Scott Bartsch and April Bartsch, all of South Dakota, Angela and Sara Gardner and Aaron, Tessa, Kruz and Lucille Wright, all of Silverdale, and Mark Gardner of Texas.
Visitation was held Friday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today also at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Private family committal will take place at a later date in South Dakota.

Randall Riska
Randall "Rat" Rex Riska, 52, of Poulsbo died June 30, 1999, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He was born June 17, 1947, in Saginaw, Mich., to Rex and Anna (Papcak) Riska. He grew up in Saginaw, graduating from high school in Michigan and later attending Olympic College in Bremerton for two years in general studies.
Mr. Riska served in the Navy from 1964 to 1968. He owned and operated a construction company in Bremerton and was active in the YMCA with his son.
Survivors include a son, Victor Riska of Poulsbo, and a sister, Julie Ann Krucek of Poulsbo.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel, followed by a 1 p.m. funeral service at the same location. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Crematory.
Memorial donations may be made to the Victor Riska Fund, c/o of Seafirst Bank in Poulsbo.
Terry Phelps
Terry Scott Phelps, 42, of Poulsbo died June 28, 1999.
He was born Feb. 18, 1957, in Seattle to Edward Eugene and Janet (Barcklay) Phelps. He grew up in Washington, graduating from Ballard High School.
He married
Laura R. Edwards on Dec. 19, 1991, in Mazatlan, Mexico.
Mr. Phelps had been sales manager at Courtesy Ford in Poulsbo for seven years.
Mr. Phelps was a member of the Harley Owners Group of Silverdale and the Silverdale Pee Wee Football League.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Janet Custer of Poulsbo; two sons, Bill Phelps of California and Chris Phelps of Poulsbo; a daughter, Carrie Ramirez of Hawaii; two brothers, Steve Phelps of Lynnwood and Rick Phelps of Marysville; a sister, Liz Clement of Auburn; and two grandchildren, Juan Ramirez Jr. and Makayla Ramirez. He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service was held Friday at the Phelps home.
