Susan Gruber
Susan L. Gruber, 54, of Bremerton died Aug. 25, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 15, 1944, in Bremerton, to Edgar and Joan (Kjos) Chapman. She grew up in Bremerton and graduated from West High School in 1962.
She married
Larry E. Gruber on March 23, 1985, in Bremerton.
Mrs. Gruber worked at a medical office in Poulsbo, and for the past eight years worked as a care giver. She belonged to the Waketickeh Camp Club in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, David and Doug Meek of Port Orchard and Aaron and Bryan Gruber of Bremerton; four daughters, Dawn Meek and Cari Gruber of Port Orchard, Diane Shively of Bremerton and Bobbi Wise of Palm Springs, Calif.; a brother, Scott Chapman of Bremerton; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.
Bill Meigs
A memorial service for Bill Meigs will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.

Mr. Meigs, 61, former Bremerton and South Kitsap fire chief, died Aug. 25, 1999. His full obituary appeared in Friday's Sun.
David Cunningham
A memorial service for David Cunningham, 53, who died Aug. 18, will be 1 p.m. today in Port Ludlow.
Cunningham was a planner with Pope Resources and Olympic Resource Management for 21 years and was instrumental in the development of Port Ludlow in Jefferson County and the Ridgetop area in Central Kitsap. His obituary appeared in the Aug. 20 issue of The Sun.
The outdoor memorial service will take place on an undeveloped piece of property directly across Paradise Day Road from the Village Center in Port Ludlow. Signs will be posted to direct those who wish to attend.

Bruce Kinsey
Bruce Edward Kinsey, 42, of Bremerton died of heart failure Aug. 19, 1999, at home.
He was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Oct. 7, 1956, to Roy and Louise (Schultz) Kinsey. He was raised in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
He was in the Navy from 1977 to 1985, then worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a welder in Shop 26 for 13 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lora (Farvour) Kinsey of Bremerton, whom he married
July 5, 1978, in Bremerton.
Other survivors are three sons, Brian, Brett and Bobby Kinsey, all of Bremerton; a daughter, Laura Kinsey-Bower, of Bremerton; and two sisters, Barb Saunders of Arden, N.C., and Cathi Jackson of Barnardsville, N.C.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 30 at Bethany Fellowship Church, 717 High Ave., Bremerton.
Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.

Paul Steiling
Paul Alfred Steiling, 64, of Poulsbo died Aug. 16, 1999, at Harrison Hospital after a 14-year battle with leukemia.
Mr. Steiling was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Auburn, to Paul Henry and Louise (Collins) Steiling. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1952. He received a bachelor's degree in international studies from Central Washington University and a master's degree in education from Seattle University.
Mr. Steiling served in the Army from 1957 to 1963. He was honorably discharged as a specialist fourth class.
He married
Beverly Lorraine Pavela on June 22, 1958, in Piedmont, Calif. She preceded him in death in 1985.
Mr. Steiling was principal at various schools in the North Kitsap School District, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Rotary, the Jaycees, the Lions Club and the PTA. He was the recipient of the Principal of the Year award and numerous coaching awards.
Survivors include two sons, Brent of Poulsbo and Brad of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Bill of Eugene, Ore.; two sisters, Mary Jean Cooks and Marilyn Bowe, both of Renton; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the North Kitsap High School gymnasium. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Frank Darragh
Frank R. Darragh, 89, of Bremerton died Aug. 17, 1999, at his home.
He was born Dec. 15, 1909, in Princeton, Minn., to Francis J. and Mai (Reid) Darragh. He grew up in Princeton.
He married
Helen Fry on Oct. 1, 1933, in Olympia.
Mr. Darragh moved to Seattle at the start of World War II, working for Boeing. In 1945, he moved to Bremerton where he was involved in the insurance business until his retirement in 1975. He built the first "Self Serve Car Wash" in Bremerton.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 117 and the Scottish Rite Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John of Bremerton and Gary of Grandview; one daughter, Joan Rae Meisner of Roseville, Calif.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sylvan Way Baptist Church in Bremerton. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Philip Evans
Philip Andrew Evans, 33, of Bremerton died Aug. 14, 1999, in Las Vegas.
He was born March 19, 1966, in Honolulu to Merrill Patrick and Jacqueline Elizabeth (Schaffer) Evans. He grew up in Hawaii, Rhode Island, Spain, California and Washington.
Mr. Evans graduated from Olympic High School in 1984. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1984 to 1988, achieving the rank of lance corporal.
Survivors include his parents; his grandmother, Roselle Evans of Silver Spring, Md.; and two brothers, Jeffrey of Los Angeles and Glenn of Silverdale.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
James Erstad
James Alfred Erstad, 65, of Bremerton died Aug. 15, 1999, at his home.
He was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Vancouver, Wash., to Alma and George Erstad. He graduated from Vancouver High School and from Clark Junior College.
Mr. Erstad served in the Army from 1953 to 1955, and in the Army Reserve until 1961.
He married
Lois Mykol on Feb. 20, 1954. They divorced in 1979.
Mr. Erstad worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 35 years, beginning as an apprentice and retiring in 1988, as a general foreman in Shop 64. Two years of his employment (1966 to 1968) were spent in Guam.
He was a member of Bremerton Elks 1181, a lifetime member of the Bremerton Eagles 192, American Legion Post 0110, the American Association of Retired Persons and the National Rifle Association. While employed at PSNS, he was a member of the Federal Managers Association.
Survivors include Donna Young, his partner and caregiver of 20 years; his sister, Georgine Kingsbury of Belfair; three daughters, Kristi Balstad of Port Orchard, Caryn Acreman of Plano, Texas, and Lynn Hike of Bremerton; and seven grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no funeral. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral Home of Bremerton.
A celebration of life will be held at the Bremerton Elks 1181 on Pine Road at noon Sept. 2.

Harold Dubree
Harold M. "Hal" Dubree, 83, of Bremerton died July 21, 1999, at his home of cardiopulminary disease.
He was born March 2, 1916, in Nortonville, Ky., to Ralph M. and Mayme Elizabeth (Hunnicutt) Dubree. He grew up in Herrin, Ill., graduating from Herrin High School in 1934.
He married
Ella Margret "Peg" Kline on Aug. 31, 1940, in San Diego. She preceded him in death in May 1994.
Mr. Dubree served in the Navy from July 1934 to 1958, retiring as a full commander. His military honors during World War II include the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, a Presidential Citation and a Bronze Star.
Following his naval career, he was sales manager and vice president for Brinkerhoff Appliances in Bremerton for many years. He also worked for several years with Larkin Realty (Century 21) in Bremerton in the early '70s.
Mr. Dubree was a member of the Mustang Club of Kitsap County, the Retired Officers Association (life member) and the Elks (30-year member). He also was active in various community service organizations.
Survivors include one daughter, Michaele Freund of Shelton; one brother, Hershall of Littleton, Colo.; and a granddaughter, Kristen-Marie Freund of Seattle. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Ruwe.
A private inurnment will take place at Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor. Cremation was under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A celebration of Hal D's life hosted by District 10 will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Port Orchard Activity Building. For information, call (360) 692-5978.
Betty Cameron
Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Cameron, 76, of Port Orchard died Aug. 11, 1999, in Kirkland.
She was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Pittsburgh to Joseph and Flora (Reed) DeRunk. She grew up in Pittsburgh, graduating from Peabody High School in Pittsburgh.
She married
Donald R. Cameron on Jan. 29, 1948, in Pittsburgh. He preceded her in death in March 1995.
Mrs. Cameron was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Brian and Donald Cameron, both of Kirkland; two daughters, Joanne Campbell of San Jose, Calif., and Flora Freeman of Port Orchard; and nine grandchildren, David, Benjamin, Michael and Elizabeth Campbell, all of San Jose, Elena and Brian Cameron, both of Kirkland, Emily and Jessica Freeman, both of Port Orchard, and Michael Cameron of Pennsylvania.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
