Morley Torgerson
Morley L. Torgerson, 71, of Bremerton died Aug. 4, 1999, in Ontario, Ore.
He was born May 27, 1928, in Vang, N.D., to Morris and Louise (Stavren) Torgerson. He attended school in the Langdon, N.D., region.
He married
LaVonne Hessinger on July 10, 1949, in Bremerton.
Mr. Torgerson served in the Army from 1951 to 1952, seeing duty in the Korean conflict. His military honors include two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and one overseas service medal.
Mr. Torgerson worked for Reynolds Arco in Bremerton for 40 years. He retired in 1989.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen Torgerson of Bremerton and Kathryn Berg of Langdon; four stepsons, Wayne Berg of Renton, Gordon Berg of Homer, Alaska, and Ken Berg and John Berg, both of Bremerton; one brother, Gerald Torgerson of Bremerton; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton on Aug. 8. Cremation took place in Ontario, Ore.
Gregory Russell
Gregory David Russell, 42, of Kingston died Aug. 7, 1999, in Seattle.
He was born Aug. 21, 1956, in Seattle.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; one brother, Jeff of Seattle; and two sisters, Janine Russell of Renton and Jennifer (Cort) Bugni of Mill Creek.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home in Seattle. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Ivan Miller
Ivan J. Miller, 54, of Tacoma and formerly of Port Orchard, died Aug. 10, 1999, at Franciscan Health Care Center in Tacoma of cancer.
He was born Dec. 12, 1944, in Beulah, N.D., to Paul and Linda (Schwartzman) Miller. He was raised and educated on Vashon Island.
He married
Georgia Ann Hassett on Feb. 19, 1983, in Burien.
Mr. Miller served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1965 as a motor pool mechanic. Later, he worked as an auto mechanic for 10 years with Ball Auto Repair in Tacoma.
He was a member of the Port Orchard Eagles.
Survivors include his wife; his parents, Paul and Linda Miller of Port Orchard; four daughters, Dorothy Sternod of Covington, Karla Diehl of Ballard and Darcy Black and Amber Hoffman, both of Burien; two brothers, Bob Miller of Olalla and Paul Miller Jr. of Fox Island; and four grandchildren, Andrew, Holly, Matthew and Lukas Sternod, all of Covington.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment
will follow the service at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

John Sutton Sr.
John R. Sutton Sr., 66, of Port Orchard died Aug. 9, 1999, in Tacoma.
He was born April 21, 1933, to John Allen and Louise Boyd (Keller) Sutton. He grew up in Houston.
He married
Barbara F. Pense on Oct. 25, 1980, in Gorst.
Mr. Sutton served in the Navy from 1951 to 1968. His military honors include a Fifth Award Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Star and a National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star.
Following his Navy enlistment, he worked as a planner and estimator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1989. Later, he was a paratransit driver for five years, retiring in 1995.
Mr. Sutton was a member of Unity Church of Bremerton, Leisure Time and the Bremerton Gold Wing Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Sutton Jr. of Arizona and Michael Sutton of New Mexico; two daughters, Sheryl Watson of Belfair and Vickie Sherman of Bremerton; one stepson, Dawayne Lounsberry of Port Orchard; three stepdaughters, Robin Blanchette of Arlington, Rebecca Freeman of Belfair and Raeneen Holt of Yakima; 32 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his first wife, Helen Deardorff of Port Orchard.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Unity Church of Bremerton. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Larry Hall
Larry Steven Hall, 44, of Bremerton died Aug. 8, 1999, in Tahuya.
He was born Nov. 6, 1954, in Bremerton.
Survivors include one son, Joshua Hall; one daughter, Angelia Gardner; one brother, Glenn Hall of Bremerton; and one sister, Kelly Hall of Bremerton.

Nancy Johnson
Nancy J. Johnson, 65, of Poulsbo died of cancer Aug. 5, 1999, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.
She was born July 12, 1934, in Silverdale to Gus and Ethel (Malone) Mey. She graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1952.
She was employed at Noridian Mutual Insurance Co. in Seattle at the time of her death.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Butterton of Bremerton, Kathy Ray of Port Angeles, Teresa Wren of Seattle and Debra McFeaters of Gig Harbor; two sons, James Ray Jr. of Seattle and Steven Johnson of Pompano Beach, Fla.; one sister, Patricia Miser of Lake Stevens; and seven grandchildren, Jason Cline of Walla Walla, Megan Cline of Bremerton, Ian, Kevin and Adam Wren and Joel Ray, all of Seattle, and Amanda McFeaters of Gig Harbor.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Silverdale United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Hoffner, Fisher and Harvey Funeral Directors in Seattle.

Mag Dalene Davies
Mag Dalene Mary Davies, 77, of Bremerton died of heart failure May 3, 1999, at her home.
She was born March 10, 1922, in Buckley, Wash., to Michael and Helen (Begalia) Romes. She grew up in Buckley.
She married
Oliver William Davies on Aug. 24, 1941, in Enumclaw. He died in 1977.
She is survived by her companion, Carl Peyer of Bremerton; three sisters, Helynne Cassels of Bremerton, Fran Prickett of Mill Valley, Calif., and Marie Martinez. She also was preceded in death by a brother, George Romes.
A memorial service was held in Filmore, Utah, on Memorial Day. Inurnment also took place in Filmore.

Roberta Pepper
Roberta Jean Pepper, 69, of Port Orchard died Aug. 7, 1999, in Port Orchard.
She was born May 14, 1930, in Oakland, Calif., to Robert and Helen (McCollum) Wallace. She grew up in Tracy, Calif., and in Oakland.
She married
Gary M. Pepper on Nov. 27, 1967, in Reno, Nev.
Mrs. Pepper was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, John, Dan and Jim Hollis, all of Port Orchard, and Ed Pepper of Walla Walla; two daughters, Janelle Dixon of Silverdale and Janice McElroy of Tracy; two brothers, Jack and Jim Wallace, both of Pioneer, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Richmond of Pioneer and Sandra Oaks of Stockton, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded by a son, Bob Gandy, in 1997.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment
will follow the service at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

James Oldroyd Jr.
James Oldroyd Jr., 79, of Allyn died Aug. 6, 1999, in Bremerton. He was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Quincy, Mass.
Mr. Oldroyd was a Navy veteran. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, serving aboard the USS Nevada.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Belfair and a former member of the Elks.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Phyllis (Marty) Oldroyd; one son, James Oldroyd III of Bremerton; three daughters, Sue Lindberg, Joan Marie Grande and Jean Marie Abad, all of Bremerton; six grandchildren, Torg and Jon Lindberg, Jack and Caleb Abad and Jared Oldroyd, all of Bremerton, and Jennifer Grande of Bellevue; and two great-grandchildren, Rainie Day of Bellevue and Keoni Abad of Bremerton.
A private family graveside service was held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Navy Relief.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral and Cremation Services.
Larry Whitlock
Larry Charles Whitlock, 41, of Indianola died Aug. 4, 1999, in Indianola.
He was born May 15, 1958, in Bremerton.
Survivors include his mother, Charlene Whitlock of Bremerton; one son, Patrick Whitlock of Georgia; one brother, Keven Whitlock of Bremerton; two sisters, Sherrie Whitlock of Tacoma and Angie Whitlock of Bremerton; and his girlfriend, Carolyn Hartness of Seattle.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at 8407 NE Seaview Ave. in Indianola.

Bertha Ames Stolze
Bertha C. Ames Stolze, 101, of Bremerton died Aug. 7, 1999, at Grandma's House in Bremerton.
She was born July 7, 1898, in Red Rock, N.M., to James and Louella (Harper) Carnahan. She grew up in Port Orchard, graduating from Bremerton High School and from Bellingham Normal School.
She married
Earl M. Ames in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1948.
She had been an elementary school teacher in Tahuya for the Mason County School District from 1932 to 1940. She taught eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse there.
Later, she worked for the Bremerton School District from 1943 until her retirement in 1969. In Bremerton, she taught at elementary schools in Navy Yard City and in West Park.
She married
Gordon E. Stolze in December 1959, at a Unitarian church in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Olympic Chapter 216. She also was a member of the Order of Amaranth, Bremerton Court No. 9 and the Kitsap Historical Society.
Survivors include one son, Earl Ames of Belfair; and two grandchildren, Jill Ames of Bremerton and Jeffrey Ames of Seattle.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Aug. 16 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a 1:30 p.m. funeral service. Interment
will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery after the service.
