Harold Allen
Harold Terry Allen, 75, of Poulsbo died Aug. 7, 1999, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
He was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Chicago.
He enlisted in the Army in June 1942, serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He also saw duty in Italy, Yugoslavia, Hawaii, Japan and in Germany during the building of the Berlin Wall.
His 46 military decorations and awards include the Combat Infantry Badge, a Bronze Star for Valor with four oak leaf clusters, a Meritorious Service Award, a Presidential Unit Citation, a Korean Presidential Unit Citation, 13 Battle Stars and two Purple Hearts.
Mr. Allen retired from the Army in June 1972. He achieved the rank of master sergeant.
Following his retirement, he worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service in Poulsbo from September 1973 to August 1989.
He was a member of the Purple Heart Society, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Hannelore; four sons, Michael of Pittsburg, Calif., Patrick of Issaquah, Daniel of Beaverton, Ore., and David of Graham; one daughter, Bridget "Bea" Allen of Poulsbo; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Tuell-McKee Funeral and Cremation Services, 2215 Sixth Ave. in Tacoma. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Mount Tahoma National cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St. E in Kent.
Jennifer Thanem
Jennifer Lynn Thanem, 13, of Kingston died Aug. 6, 1999, at her home of cystic fibrosis.
She was born June 22, 1986, in Port Angeles to Eric and Terry Thanem. She grew up in Kingston, where she was an honor student at Kingston Junior High School, having completed the seventh grade.
She served as Cystic Fibrosis Ambassador for the Washington Mutual Stair Climb. On behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, she participated in television promotions with Seattle television personality Tony Ventrella and in fund-raising through walks and other Children's Hospital events. She had worked with the Children's Hospital Camp for five years.
She was the recipient of blue ribbons at the Clallam County Fair for her entries in crocheting, sewing and jewelry making.
Survivors include her parents; her grandparents, Chuck and Donna Grall of Sequim and Kasren Kreger and Diane Thanem of Port Angeles; and her great-grandparents, Arabella Grall and Art and Evelyn Waldron, all of Port Angeles.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harper Ridgeview Funeral Home in Port Angeles. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., also at Harper Ridgeview Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Angeles Memorial Park with a fellowship planned immediately afterward at Fairview Bible Church.

Jenny Arthun
Jenny Christina Arthun, 75, of Bremerton died Aug. 7, 1999, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle of a brain hemorrhage.
She was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Seattle to Frighoff and Gerda Sundvall. She grew up in Bremerton, graduating with honors from Bremerton High School in 1941.
She attended the University of Washington for three years and also attended a college on the East Coast.
She married
her childhood sweetheart, Richard Thomas Arthun, in Tacoma. The couple shared a business in Tacoma before retiring to Bremerton in 1989.
Mrs. Arthun had worked as a secretary at the U.S. ammunition depot in Bremerton during World War II. She was also a feature writer for a newspaper in Vero Beach, Fla.
She taught Sunday school in the Presbyterian church and was active in the American Cancer Society for two and one-half years while living on the East Coast.
Survivors include her husband and three sons, Steve Langfitt and Joseph Langfitt, both of Orting, and Richard Arthun of St. Helens, Ore. She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Sundvall, formerly of Bremerton, and by a brother, Alf Sundvall of Bremerton.
A private family service will be held.

Philip Shanley
Philip Edward Shanley, 56, of Bremerton died Aug. 6, 1999, at Harrison Hospital of cardiac arrest.
He was born Sept. 23, 1942, in Bremerton to Edward and Esabel (Turner) Shanley. He was raised and educated in Bremerton, graduating from West High School in 1961.
Mr. Shanley had worked in car sales in California and in Washington for many years. For the past 10 years, he had been the manager and caretaker at Bay Shore Condominiums in Bremerton.
Survivors include his life partner, Prudence Risser of Bremerton; one son, Thomas Shanley of Bremerton; four sisters, Pat Knowles and Carmen Linstrom, both of Bremerton, and Joan Robinson and Nancy Denson, both of Hemet, Calif.; and one grandson, Steven Shanley of Bremerton.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the recreation hall of Bay Shore Condominiums. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Ivetta Butterfield
Ivetta Juanita Butterfield, 88, of Belfair died July 26, 1999, at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center in Port Orchard.
She was born March 21, 1911, in Buckley to William and Jessie (Haun) Ballard.
She married
Walter Butterfield on Sept. 20, 1927. He preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1996.
Mrs. Butterfield had worked as a waitress for many years.
Survivors include one son, Walter Butterfield Jr. of Belfair; one daughter, Darlene Mead of Tacoma; three sisters, Oda Beard of Tacoma, Esda Clark of SeaTac and Marie Denchel of Prosser; five grandchildren, Richard Mead of Gig Harbor, Karen Diluzio of Fife, Eileen Dove of Oak Harbor and David Mead and Cynthia Mead, both of Tacoma; and two great-grandchildren, Jennifer Dove of Oak Harbor and Amanda Mead of Tacoma.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Belfair Community Baptist Church. Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park with inurnment at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
James Marshall
James Woods Marshall, 72, a longtime resident of Bremerton, died Aug. 2, 1999, at Cypress Gardens Retirement Center in Bremerton.
He was born May 31, 1927, in Baltimore, Md., to Valiquet and Elizabeth (Greene) Marshall.
Mr. Marshall served in the Navy from 1945 to 1949. He was a graduate of Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif., and the University of California at Berkeley.
He worked for many years as a labor mediator and representative for the International Longshoreman's and Warehouseman's Union, the state of California and the county of Alameda in California.

Jay De McGinnis Jr.
Jay De McGinnis Jr., 29, of Olalla died Aug. 6, 1999, in Olalla.
He was born Aug. 17, 1969, in Bremerton to Jay De McGinnis Sr. and Louise Gaye (Phipps) McGinnis. He grew up in Port Orchard, graduating from South Kitsap High School.
He married
Lori Dean Nack on Aug. 21, 1995, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. McGinnis worked for Bower Transportation. He was a girls softball coach for his daughter Brianna's team known as the "Breeze."
Survivors include his wife; his parents, Jay De McGinnis Sr. of Shelton and Louise Gaye McGinnis of Port Orchard; two daughters, Brianna Louise and Jalyn Rose McGinnis, both of Olalla; and his paternal grandparents, Dode and Ruth McGinnis of Faith, S.D.
A gathering of friends and family will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Gaye McGinnis, 6810 Sidney Road SW in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Oscar Kilene
Oscar Theodore Kilene, 87, of Bremerton died Aug. 8, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 7, 1912, in Berthold, N.D., to Ostin and Bertha (Bjelland) Kilene. He was raised and educated in North Dakota.
He met Myrtle Hagen in Willmar, Minn., and they were married
Dec. 14, 1940, in Enumclaw.
Mr. Kilene studied welding in Minneapolis. He began working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard on Oct. 16, 1940. He worked at PSNS until 1973, retiring as a welding shop supervisor.
He was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife; one brother, Elmer Kilene of Berthold; and one sister, Lilly Johnson of Seattle.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Michael Dillig
Michael Reid Dillig, 52, of Bremerton died Aug. 7, 1999, as the result of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
He was born May 22, 1947, in Bellflower, Calif., to Glenn and June (Reid) Dillig. He grew up in Bremerton and in Davenport, Iowa, graduating from Central High School in Davenport in 1965.
He married
Danna Little on June 1, 1968, in Bremerton. They were later divorced.
Mr. Dillig became a patternmaker in Davenport, working there nine years before returning to Bremerton. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a machinist until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Gold Wing Club and had belonged to the Corvette Club.
Survivors include his ex-wife and one daughter, Jaclenn Cook of Seattle.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church in Bremerton. Private interment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Caleb Wiles
Caleb Nicholas Wiles, the infant son of Russel and Sarah (Cryder) Wiles of Port Orchard, died Aug. 5, 1999, at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma.
The cause of death was complications at his birth Aug. 4, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Donovon and Connie Wiles of Puyallup and by his maternal grandparents, Jack and Ellen Cryder of Port Orchard.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Private interment will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
