Bessie Peters
Bessie I. Peters, 78, of Port Orchard died Aug. 3, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Nemo, S.D., to George and Emma Mix. She grew up in Cody, Wyo.
She married
Walter W. Peters on Nov. 20, 1943, at Moses Lake. He preceded her in death Nov. 10, 1983.
Mrs. Peters worked with her husband on their family farms.
Survivors include a son, Gene of Portland, Ore.; five daughters, Judy Madewell and Linda Walkup, both of Moses Lake, Tricia Crimmins of Albany Creek, Australia, Donna Hamar of Port Townsend and Luanne Vail of Port Orchard; four sisters, Mabel Darrah of Powell, Wyo., Margaret Saigeon of La Pine, Ore., Lorena Bailey of Moses Lake and Trudy Smith of Evanston, Wyo.; and 18 grandchildren, Chuck and Kari Kienholz, both of Monroe, Jolisa Darcy of Elk, Peter Crimmins of Albany Creek, Nat han and Kasea Hamar, both of Port Townsend, Michael and Elizabeth Vail, both of Port Orchard, LaVonne Cooper of Bremerton, Kim Adams of Lynnwood, and Darrell Walkup, Lynette Ashworth, Kevin Walkup, Jannell Pardee, Joey Walkup, Tricia Ann Walkup, Rose Walkup and Christopher Madewell, all of Moses Lake; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel and at noon Tuesday at Moses Lake Assembly of God. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday also at Moses Lake Assembly of God. Interment
will take place at Warden cemetery in Warden.

Dorothy Morous
Dorothy Jean Morous, 75, a resident of Bremerton and Gig Harbor, died Aug. 4, 1999, at Manor Care of Gig Harbor.
She was born April 22, 1924, in Moorhead, Minn., to John and Matilda (Hoganson) Larson. She graduated from St. John's School of Nursing in Fargo, N.D., in 1946.
She married
Anthony Morous. They had been married
49 years.
Mrs. Morous was a registered nurse. She had worked at Tacoma General Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1971.
She is survived by her husband.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Interment
will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, to St. Joseph Hospice of Tacoma or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Robert Maydak
Former Poulsbo resident Robert Michael Maydak, 57, of Seattle died Aug. 2, 1999, in Seattle.
He was born June 12, 1942, in Ravenna, Ohio, to Michael and Mae Maydak. He grew up in Kent, Ohio, graduating from Griswold Institute in Cleveland in 1962.
Mr. Maydak served in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968. He achieved the rank of sergeant.
He was an engineer with Gould Inc. at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport. He retired in 1985.
Survivors include his father; two daughters, Penny Jo of Poulsbo and Michelle of Portland, Ore.; and one brother, Richard of Kent.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo.

Thomas Sumter
Former Bremerton resident Thomas H. Sumter, 91, of Topeka, Kan., died Aug. 4, 1999, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born June 3, 1908, in Somerville, Texas, to Thomas H. and Lucille (Atkins) Sumter. He graduated from high school in Pasadena, Texas, in 1926 and from Rice Institute College in Houston in 1930.
He married
Viola May Harding on Jan. 27, 1941, in Oskaloosa, Kan.
Mr. Sumter was a naval architect at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1976. He moved to Valley Falls, Kan., in 1990 and to Topeka in 1995.
He was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Thomas of Poulsbo and Michael of Spokane; two daughters, Cora Louise Sumter Harrington of Bremerton and Lori Ann Sumter Hansson of Naches; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. A service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, also at Mercer Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Valley Falls cemetery.

Donna Otto
Donna L. Otto, 58, a life-long resident of Gig Harbor, died Aug. 2, 1999.
She had been employed as a bookkeeper for BLK Enterprises and was a member of the Body of the Messiah.
Survivors include her husband, Mark; four sons, Dino Harshbarger of Milton, Bill Harshbarger of Port Orchard, and Travis Harshbarger and Timothy Harshbarger, both of Colville; three daughters, Shirley Lee of Purdy, April Allgier of Dixon, Mont., and Bambie Nichols of Colville; two brothers, David Roby of Gig Harbor and Albert Roby of Tacoma; three sisters, Josephine Paulson of Shelton and Ellen Gauthier and Eileen Emerson, both of Purdy; and 12 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Rosedale cemetery in Gig Harbor. Arrangements are under the direction of Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor.

Dot Fitch
Dorothy K. "Dot" Fitch, 90, of Port Orchard died Aug. 5, 1999, at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born Nov. 19, 1908, in Millville, N.J., to Harry and Frances (Lloyd) Kiple. She grew up in Millville, graduating from Millville High School and from a university in New Jersey.
She married
Edward Fitch in Bridgeton, N.J., in 1931. He preceded her in death in 1968.
Mrs. Fitch was a teacher in New Jersey for 27 years, retiring in 1973. She also owned an interior design company in California in the late 1950s and '60s.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Friswold of Port Orchard; two grandchildren, Scott Friswold of Whidbey Island and Stephen Friswold of Heber Springs, Ark.; and five great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Donald Beeber
Donald Dean Beeber, 70, of Belfair died Aug. 4, 1999, in Belfair.
He was born May 27, 1929, in Sharon Springs, Kan., to John and Iva (Smith) Beeber. He grew up in Buena, graduating from Toppenish High School in Toppenish in 1947.
He married
Judith Parmely on Nov. 17, 1948, in Toppenish.
Mr. Beeber worked in Code 135 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He also served as a volunteer deputy sheriff in Mason County.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald of Belfair; four daughters, Kathy Ison and Brenda Stonecipher, both of Belfair, and Sue Rude and Karen Fortner, both of Port Orchard; a brother, Douglas of Yakima; a sister, Patricia of Oregon; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Cagle.
A private graveside service and interment will take place at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Reuben Brueckner
Reuben F.E. Brueckner, 76, of Bremerton died at his home Aug. 2, 1999, of emphysema.
He was born April 21, 1923, in Niagara, N.D., to Henry and Amedia (Strassburg) Brueckner. He grew up in Niagara.
He married
Frances Misemer on June 7, 1992, in Bremerton.
Mr. Brueckner served in the Army during World War II, from 1943 to 1945. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 21 years, retiring in 1974.
He was a volunteer firefighter for the North Perry Fire District for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Brueckner; three daughters, Carma Foley of Seabeck, Ardeth Randall of Bremerton and Doris Thomas of Portland, Ore.; two brothers; four sisters; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral & Cremation Services of Bremerton.

Hildegard Pennington
Hildegard K. Pennington, 66, of Port Orchard died Aug. 5, 1999, at Harrison Hospital of a stroke.
She was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Rheydt, Rheinland, Germany, to Andreas and Martha (Wolmer) Beckers. She grew up in Rheydt, attending schools in Meinfranken, Germany.
She completed an apprenticeship in business administration in Rheydt. She graduated from nursing school in Oxford, England, and from Bremerton Business College in 1973.
She married
Don Pennington on July 9, 1956, in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Mrs. Pennington worked as a secretary for Spot Realty for seven years and more recently had been the executive secretary and volunteer station manager for PAWS of Bremerton.
She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Rene Gehrts of Bremerton.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, also at Rill Chapel with a reception following in the hospitality room there. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Ernest Fernandez
Ernest Fernandez, 85, of Port Orchard died July 31, 1999, in Bremerton of pneumonia.
He was born March 11, 1914, in Port Angeles to Anton and Gertrude Fernandez. He grew up in Pysht, near Clallam Bay.
He married
Frances Schonert on Jan. 1, 1951, in Vancouver, Wash. She preceded him in death in 1989.
Mr. Fernandez served in the Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1945. His military honors include a Victory Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
He worked for the Washington Department of Transportation for 17 years, retiring in 1977.
Survivors include two sons, James Fernandez of Port Orchard and Tim Fernandez of Clallam Bay; four daughters, Leona Smith of Bremerton, Betty Baker of Clallam Bay, Jeanette Gullikson of Lynnwood and Nancy Merchant of Alvin, Texas; an adopted son, Chad LaMothe; three brothers, George Fernandes and Albert Fernandes, both of Clallam Bay, and Paul Fernandes of Port Angeles; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Fernandes.
A memorial service took place Tuesday at Clallam Bay Presbyterian Church. Family and friends will gather at 2:30 p.m. Sunday to scatter his ashes on his farm in Clallam Bay.
