Virginia Bauer
Virginia Josephine Bauer, 82, of Poulsbo died Sept. 22, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Gold Hill, Nev., to Timothy and Doris (Fisher) Stack.
She grew up in Reno, Nev., Maplewood, N.J., and Ohio. She graduated from Olympia High School in Olympia in 1938.
She married
Ervin Bauer in May 1941 in Olympia.
She had been a homemaker all her life. She was a member of the Grandmothers Club of Poulsbo, which helps raise money for children's organizations and the elderly.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, George of Quilcene and Ronald of Poulsbo; and two grandchildren, Raymond and Denise Bauer, both of Poulsbo.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Private interment will take place at Poulsbo City cemetery.

Mabel Grytness
Mabel C. Grytness, 90, of Poulsbo died Sept. 21, 1999, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center of Alzheimer's disease.
She was born Sept. 11, 1909, in Stanwood to Iver and Marit (Aarseth) Stensaa. She grew up in Stanwood.
She married
Ben Grytness on March 8, 1947, in Ketchikan, Alaska. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Grytness was a homemaker. She made and sold clowns, dolls and trolls and had worked as a grocery clerk in Alaska.
She was a past president of the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo and was one of the co-founders of the Ladies Club at the Sons of Norway lodge.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean Cserepes of Tacoma and Norma Latch of Shelton; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. Inurnment will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Bill Ashby
Charles "Bill" Ashby, 87, of Hartstene Island near Shelton died Sept. 22, 1999, at Fir Lane Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shelton.
He was born May 23, 1912, in Tekamah, Neb. He married
Hildur Wilson on March 23, 1966, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Ashby was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 28 years. He was retired.
Survivors include his wife; a son, William of Port Orchard; two daughters, Wilma Passmore of Renton and Rebecca Ashby of Port Orchard; three stepsons, Bernard Housen of Auburn, Denis Housen of Silverdale and Sevrin Housen of Sacramento, Calif.; two stepdaughters, JoAnn Scott of Port Orchard and Brenda Ramirez of Silverdale; a sister, Ruby Bowman of Rapid City, S.D.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A private family memorial service took place. Arrangements are under the direction of McComb Funeral Home in Shelton.
John Cheyney
John F. Cheyney, 57, of Gig Harbor died Sept. 21, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma of complications resulting from diabetes.
He was born Nov. 3, 1941, in Chehalis to Thorn and Marie (Mac Alexander) Cheyney. He grew up in Gig Harbor, graduating from Peninsula High School in Purdy in 1960.
Mr. Cheyney worked for the Pierce County Road Department and also picked huckleberry brush. He was retired.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine; a son, John Jr. of Gig Harbor; a daughter, Julie Halloway of Australia; two brothers, Thorn of Seabeck and Donald of Suquamish; a sister, Beverly Miller of Port Orchard; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at noon Sunday at Cory Doyle's home, 9448 Glenwood Road SW in Port Orchard.

Ryan McAuliffe
Ryan Michael McAuliffe, 26, of Bremerton died Sept. 19, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born April 12, 1973, in San Diego to John and Jane (Anderson) McAuliffe. He lived in San Diego until moving to Kitsap County 10 years ago.
He attended Central Kitsap schools, graduating from Central Kitsap High School in 1993. At the time of his death he was attending Olympic College.
Mr. McAuliffe had worked in the fast-food business and at the K2 Corp. on Vashon Island.
Survivors include his parents, now of Silverdale; his fianceé, Anna Pavlock of Bremerton; two sons, Taylor Brittain-McAuliffe of Portland, Ore., and Jason Slater of Groveland, Calif.; a daughter, Mia Pavlock McAuliffe of Bremerton; three brothers, Sean of San Francisco, Patrick of Seattle and Christopher of Los Angeles; three sisters, Maureen Popp of Manila, Philippines, Kathleen Aguilar of Vancouver, Wash., and Meghan McAuliffe of Seattle.
A private family memorial service will take place at the chapel on the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor. Cremation is by Cherry Grove Memorial Park and arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Clara Olsen
Clara Olsen, 92, a resident of Crista Shores in Silverdale and a longtime resident of Seabeck, died Sept. 22, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 12, 1907, in Oak Harbor to Martinus and Elizabeth (Riksen) Heller. She was raised and educated in Oak Harbor.
She married
Andrew Olsen on Sept. 20, 1926, in Coupeville. He preceded her in death March 27 of this year.
Mrs. Olsen was a homemaker. She also was a member of the Seabeck Community Club and the Seabeck Library Club.
Survivors include three sons, Don of Chimacum, Chuck of Tacoma and Bert of Lancaster, Calif.; three brothers, Simon Heller, Albert Heller and Barney Heller; two sisters, Georgia Henni and Maggie Bruhn; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Keyport Bible Church, followed by a 2 p.m. memorial service at Crista Shores.
Clytie Anderson
Clytie Alpha Anderson, 91, of Port Orchard died Sept. 20, 1999, at Port Orchard Care Center of natural causes.
She was born Feb. 13, 1908, in Brock, Okla., to Thomas and Willie Belle (Paine) Minter. She was raised and educated in Hastings, Okla.
She married
Fred C. Anderson. He preceded her in death in 1970.
Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker. She also was the first president of the "Loyal Philathea Class" of the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Hammond, Ind.
Survivors include a daughter, Priscilla Cornwell of Port Orchard; a sister, Faustine Smith of Highland, Ind.; four grandchildren, Catherine Smith of Kent, Candice Turrentine of Federal Way, Lori of Hawaii and Caryn of New York; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, John, and a daughter, Rose Mary.
A memorial service is planned at a later date. Inurnment will take place at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to a local Alzheimer's disease organization, to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mary Scott
Mary A. Scott, 90, a longtime resident of Bremerton, died Sept. 21, 1999, at First Hill Care Center in Seattle of natural causes.
She was born May 9, 1909, in Jeanerette, La., to Frank and Albertha (Essex) Pecantee. She grew up in Jeanerette.
She married
James M. "Scotty" Scott on Feb. 6, 1960. He preceded her in death in 1965.
Mrs. Scott was a homemaker. She had come to Bremerton in 1943 to work in Shop 72 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. In the 1950s, she was the only licensed female barber in Bremerton.
She was a member of the First A.M.E. Church in Seattle, the NAACP and the Elks.
Survivors include two sons, Lucian Smith of Fullerton, Calif., and Earl Smith Jr. of Port Orchard; a daughter, Audrey Miller of Seattle; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Chapel. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

E.J. Jones Jr.
Ebben A. "E.J." Jones Jr., 22, a former resident of Bremerton, died Sept. 18, 1999, in Newport News, Va.
He was born July 13, 1977, in Bethesda, Md.
After graduating from Bremerton High School in 1995, Mr. Jones joined the Air Force in November of that year. He was a senior airman.
He became a Mason in 1998, (Prince Hall Masonics) at Kunson Air Force Base in Korea. He achieved the status of Master Mason.
Survivors include his father, Ebben Jones Sr. of Bremerton; his mother, Sylvia Williams of Bremerton; his birth mother, Charito Moulden of Knoxville, Tenn.; five sisters, Christina Fomby, Lorna Jones and Corrina Williams, all of Bremerton, and Amanda and Lynn Moulden, both of Knoxville; two brothers, Gregory and Robert, both of Bremerton; his fiance', Theresa Cole of Houston; and his grandmother, Mable Jones.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Tuell-McKee Funeral Home in Tacoma, with services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chambers Creek Chapel, 9212 Chambers Creek Road W in Tacoma. Interment
will follow at New Tacoma cemetery.

Mary Chisholm
Mary Alice Chisholm, 59, of Silverdale died Sept. 19, 1999, at her home.
She was born Sept. 4, 1940, in Millport, Ala., to Murray and Vaudine (Eatmon) Durrah.
She lived in Alabama until the age of 15 when her family moved to the Cleveland area. She graduated from Glennville High School in 1958, then attended nursing school.
She took her nurses' training at Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital and worked as a surgical nurse for several years.
She was active in her church.
Survivors include a son, Mark of Texas; a daughter, Shona of Silverdale; her father; and several brothers and sisters out of state.
A memorial service was held at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Bremerton on Wednesday evening. An additional memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ in Euclid, Ohio.
Cremation took place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
