Bud Moen
Orville R. "Bud" Moen, 73, of Bremerton died Sept. 15, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Jan. 6, 1926, to Ole and Marie Moen in Rugby, N.D.
Mr. Moen served in the Navy in the submarine service during World War II and the Korean War. During his naval career, he completed five wartime combat patrols. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct medals and a Presidential Unit Citation.
He married
Nancy White in January 1951.
Mr. Moen worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport, retiring as a superintendent in 1981 after 30 years.
He was an amateur radio operator for more than 50 years. His call sign was W7MQM.
Mr. Moen was also a 30-year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3694 in Bremerton, American Legion Post 149 in Bremerton and the World War II Subvets Association.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul of Bremerton; and a sister, Maude Rehberg of Bremerton.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in West Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Charles Tibbits
Charles Boyd Tibbits, 75, of Poulsbo died Sept. 16, 1999, in Bremerton.
He was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Detroit to Arthur Harold and Ruth (Boyd) Tibbits. He graduated from Western High School in Detroit and from the University of Michigan in 1952, with a degree in mechanical engineering.
He married
Blossom Benka on Aug. 2, 1952, in Detroit.
Mr. Tibbits served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a lieutenant.
Later, he owned Charles B. Tibbits and Associates, consulting engineers. He was a consulting engineer for the pulp and paper industries throughout the world. He was retired.
Mr. Tibbits was chairman of the Steam and Power Committee for the Technical Association to the Pulp and Paper Industry. He was a TAPPI Fellow, a member of the TAPPI Professional Society and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
He also held memberships in the Kitsap Live Steamers and the Port Madison Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bruce of Lynnwood and Keith of Los Angeles; a daughter, Carla Adams of Bangor, Maine; a brother, John of Shoreline; two sisters, Emily Jansma of Spokane and Barbara Jansma of Walnut Grove, Minn.; and three grandchildren, Monica Bishop, Ryan Bishop and Charles Tibbits.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church. Cremation is under the direction of Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park.

Violette Thompson
Violette B. Thompson, 87, of Kingston died Sept. 15, 1999, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
She was born July 3, 1912, in Seattle to Ole and Carrie (Halvorson) Griswold.
She grew up in Seattle, later living in California for many years. She had been a resident of Kitsap County off and on for several years, having lived here for the past five years.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Lee W. Thompson, preceded her in death in 1984. Survivors include two sons, Lee of Kingston and Jerry of Long Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Christian, Thomas and Bradley.
Cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park with inurnment and graveside services to be held in California. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.
Florence Dahlner
Florence A. Dahlner, 88, of Port Orchard died Sept. 16, 1999, at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center of natural causes.
She was born Jan. 4, 1911, in Peever, S.D., to Frank and Anna (O'Bryan) Dudeck. She grew up in Peever, graduating from Peever High School in 1928 and from the College of St. Benedicts in Collegeville, Minn., in 1932.
She married
Harry G. Dahlner on July 10, 1937, in Peever. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Dahlner was a homemaker. She taught home economics in Hastings, Minn., for three years. She retired in 1937 after meeting her husband.
She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard, the Jennie L. Miller Children's Hospital Guild and the Kitsap County Home Economists.
Survivors include a son, Harry of Woodinville; two daughters, Ann Willette of Enumclaw and Esther Hunsaker of Port Orchard; a sister, Jerry Abel of Brookings, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Spencer Murphy.
A rosary will be said at 7 tonight at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Paul Thyren
Paul V. Thyren, 42, of Silverdale died Sept. 13, 1999, in Kitsap County.
He was born June 6, 1957, in Waterbury, Conn.
He married
Melinda Santos in Olongapo, Philippines, at Subic Bay.
Mr. Thyren served in the Navy from 1976 to 1995, attaining the rank of machinist's mate first class. More recently he worked with Ross Plaza.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Marion Thyren; four sons, Fred Santos and Jeffrey, Joseph and Eric Thyren; and two sisters, Linda Gardner and Pamela Kane, both of Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his father, Verner O. Thyren.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, with a funeral service following at 1 p.m.

Dan Thompson
Charles "Dan" Thompson, 62, of Poulsbo died Sept. 15, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 17, 1936, in Anthony, N.M., to Charles and Ludora (Hanks) Thompson. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in Albuquerque, N.M., in 1954.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy; two sons, Mike of Texas and Jay of Bremerton; two daughters, Dana Patton of Dallas and Kimberly of Poulsbo; a stepdaughter, Lori Carter and her daughter, Stephanie of Puyallup; a sister, Kathy de Jonge of Pahrump, Nev.; five grandchildren, A.J., C.J. and Danielle Patton and Kelly and Raymond Thompson, all of Texas; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Kass Funeral Home on Bainbridge Island. A graveside service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Breidablik cemetery near Poulsbo.
Gus Bjorlee
Gustav "Gus" Martin Bjorlee, 81, of Poulsbo died Sept. 13, 1999, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.
He was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Central Valley to Olaf Chester and Thora (Fosberg) Bjorlee. He grew up in the Poulsbo-Central Valley area, graduating from Port Washington Union High School in Silverdale in 1936 and attending Olympic College.
Mr. Bjorlee served in the Navy from 1936 to 1940. He was an electrician's mate third class stationed in San Diego and in the Caribbean.
He married
Minnie Replogle on Jan. 25, 1941, at Island Lake Lutheran Church in Central Valley.
He worked in Shop 06 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring as an electrical maintenance foreman in 1972. His PSNS career spanned 32 years.
Mr. Bjorlee was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 574, Silverdale Lutheran Church, the Eagles, a life member and past president of Oslo 35 Sons of Norway Lodge in Bremerton and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Manette.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Gray of Bremerton; a brother, Chester of Silverdale; two grandchildren, David of Seattle and Jodi of Poulsbo; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation took place Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. today at Silverdale Lutheran Church, followed by a reception at the Oslo 35 Sons of Norway. Interment
will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

Robert Hutchinson
Former Silverdale resident Robert E. Hutchinson, 72, of Alexandria, Tenn., died
Sept. 13, 1999, at Nashville Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
He was born March 4, 1927, in Statesville, Tenn., to Joe and Maude Bly Hutchinson.
He and his wife, Barbara Lee, lived in Silverdale for many years. Mr. Hutchinson worked as a warehouseman at the Naval Supply Center Puget Sound.
Following his retirement, the couple returned to Tennessee in 1980. His wife preceded him in death in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Larena Wells of Bremerton; three brothers, E.J. of Hobart, Ind., John of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Tommy of Watertown, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Patrick Wells of Kent and Toni Johnston of Morris, Ill.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial will take place at Prosperity cemetery near Watertown.
Patricia Olson
Patricia Adolphine Olson, 78, of Poulsbo died Sept. 9, 1999, in Poulsbo.
She was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Bovey, Minn., to Hilmer and Lena Jacobson. She was raised in Fargo, N.D., graduating from Oberon High School in Oberon, N.D., in 1938.
She attended the University of North Dakota. In 1944, she graduated with a nursing degree from Saint Andrews Hospital School of Nursing in Bottineau, N.D.
From 1945 to 1955, she worked as a nurse for Harrison Hospital and also at a nursing home on Bainbridge Island. She moved to Keyport in 1957, raised a family, then returned to work as a nurse for the South Kitsap School District in 1973. She retired in 1995.
She was a member of Keyport Bible Church.
Survivors include three sons, Robert and Alexander, both of Keyport, and John of North Bend; a daughter, Sandra of Bremerton; a brother, Howard Jacobson of Glendale, Calif.; a sister, Audrey Thompson of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 7 p.m. Friday at Keyport Bible Church. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
