Phillip Keck
Former Bremerton resident Phillip Lester Keck, 71, of Auburn died of cancer July 15, 1999, in Auburn.
He was born April 26, 1928, in Topeka, Kan., to Carroll and Madge (Boling) Keck. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1946 and from Washington State University in Pullman in 1952.
He and his wife, Dorthea, were married
in Auburn in 1950.
Mr. Keck served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1954. He was stationed in Thule, Greenland.
He worked as an independent stockbroker and as an independent contractor for 30 years. More recently, he had worked 25 years for National Securities.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Daniel Sheffer of Anchorage, Alaska, and Brian of Seattle; two daughters, Donna Vining and Sharon Loewen, both of Auburn; two brothers, James of Poulsbo and Thomas of Everett; a sister, Anna Clements of Seattle; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Jack Keck
Former Bremerton resident Jack Boling Keck, 73, of Des Moines died July 25, 1999, in Des Moines of Alzheimer's disease.
He was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Topeka, Kan., to Carroll and Madge (Boling) Keck. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1943.
He attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, in 1946.
He married
Barbara Jean Wanzer on Aug. 5, 1950, in Bellingham.
Mr. Keck served in the Navy from 1943 to 1947. He was a lieutenant commander.
He owned East Hill Heating Co. in Kent for
30 years, retiring in 1997. Previously, he worked for Shell Oil Co. from 1948 to 1962.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeffery of Des Moines; a daughter, Patricia (Keck) Hardman of Federal Way; two brothers, James of Poulsbo and Thomas of Everett; a sister, Anna Clements of Seattle; and four grandchildren, Jackson and Andrew Hardman and Christopher and Emily Keck. He was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip.
John Swett
John Oliver Swett, 80, of Gorst died Sept. 9, 1999, at Bremerton Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born March 28, 1919, to Oliver and Bessie (Phelps) Swett in French Glen, Ore. He grew up there and in Burns, Ore., graduating from Burns High School in 1938.
He served in the Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945, and worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 24 years until his retirement.
Mr. Swett is survived by his wife, Laura (Surratt) Swett; and one son, Perry of Portland, Ore.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair. Arrangements are being handled by Kass Funeral Home, Bainbridge Island.
MaryAnn Cline
MaryAnn Cline, 55, of Everett died Sept. 8, 1999, in Seattle.
Ms. Cline was born March 13, 1944, in Bremerton to John and Emma (Johnson) Hanson. She grew up in Bremerton and attended Central Kitsap High School.
She worked for more than 20 years as an expediter at The Boeing Co.
Ms. Cline is survived by two daughters, Sherrie Gietzen of Edmonds and Mindy McIntyre of Everett.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Arbor Hill Garden at Floral Hills cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Washington Medical Center, 1959 NE Pacific St., Seattle, WA 98195.
Gordon Herbold
Gordon George Herbold, 82, of Port Orchard died of lung cancer Sept. 4, 1999, in Port Orchard.
He was born June 26, 1917, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Harry and Ellen (Will) Herbold. He grew up in Pierson, Iowa.
He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1963, achieving the rank of hospital corpsman first class. During World War II, he saw duty in Northern Africa, Italy and the South Pacific. He also served in the Korean War.
He married
Mitsuko Uema on Nov. 4, 1964, in Okinawa, Japan.
Mr. Herbold worked as the transportation parts manager for the South Kitsap School District for 10 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Okinawa Masonic Lodge and the Fleet Reserve Association.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Greg of Reno, Nev.; two daughters, Cheryl Hines of Portland, Ore., and Rhinda Danley of Bremerton; a brother, Loran of Pierson; and four grandchildren, Sharrie Sheley of Eugene, Ore., Mickie Bergmann of Reno, Katy Danley of Bremerton and Mitchell Hines of Portland; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy.
Private family services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.

'Dink' Valente
Felix C. "Dink" Valente, 92, of Bremerton died Sept. 9, 1999, at Bremerton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born May 28, 1907, in Italy to Battista and Maria (Villa) Valente. He was raised and educated in Gwinn, Mich.
He married
his first wife, Edna Bragg, in 1933. She preceded him in death in 1954.
He married
his second wife, Viola Love, in 1959. She preceded him in death in 1994.
Before 1945, he had worked in the iron mines in Michigan. He came to Bremerton in 1945 and began work in the fire department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He retired from PSNS in 1971.
He had been the fire chief of the Gorst Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was a life member of the Kitsap and Mason Firefighters Association, a member of the Men's 55X bowling league at Westpark Lanes and a member of the Mixed League at Hi-Joy Bowl in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Nelson of Bremerton; a stepson, James Sullivan of Newbury Park, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Roberta Ball of Kent; a brother, John of Rockford, Ill.; a sister, Carmen Zanetti of Gwinn; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Norman.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday also at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Anne Wadsworth
Anne Julius Wadsworth, 84, of Poulsbo died Sept. 8, 1999, on Bainbridge Island.
She was born Dec. 9, 1914, in Redmond to Mark and Ellen (Miller) Baker. She was raised and educated in Snohomish.
She married
Jim Wadsworth in Snohomish in 1942. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Wadsworth was a homemaker. During World War II, she worked for The Boeing Co. After the war, she was a waitress in Bremerton and in Oregon.
Survivors include a son, Harvey Babcock of Poulsbo; a daughter, Audrey Carlson of Garden Grove, Calif.; a brother, Roy Baker of Stanwood, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
At her request, there will be no services. Inurnment will be next to her husband at the Fraternal Order of Odd Fellows cemetery in Monroe. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Ronald Edwards
Former Kitsap County resident Ronald Gregory Edwards, 44, of Scappoose, Ore., died Sept. 8, 1999, in Longview.
He was born May 16, 1955, in Bremerton to George and Cyrene (Sullivan) Edwards. He grew up in Portland, Ore., graduating from Roosevelt High School there in 1974.
He married
Darlene George on Nov. 27, 1974, at Little Boston near Kingston.
Mr. Edwards worked as a longshoreman for 25 years, primarily in Longview and Portland.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Brian of Scappoose; a daughter, Carla of Scappoose; his mother, Cyrene Tooze of Kingston; his father, now of Portland; four sisters, Lenore and April Edwards and Yvette Jones, all of Kingston, and Mary Oliver of Portland.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribal Center, 31912 Little Boston Road NE, near Kingston. Interment
will follow at Little Boston cemetery.
Harry Claboe
Harry M. Claboe, 87, of Retsil and formerly of Edmonds, died Sept. 9, 1999, at the Washington Veterans Home.
He was born Jan. 20, 1912, in Seattle to Elmer and Millie (Eide) Claboe. He grew up in Hansville.
Mr. Claboe served in the Army from 1942 to 1943. Later, he worked as a mail handler with the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a member of the American Legion.
His wife, Judith, preceded him in death. He is survived by 12 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the dining hall of the Washington Veterans Home, Building 10-1. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Patricia Patnude
Patricia E. Patnude, 97, of Port Orchard died Sept. 5, 1999, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born Aug. 8, 1902, in Dayton, Wash., to Alonzo and Mary (Baldwin) Nulph.
She had worked as a nurse at the old Port Orchard Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Coldiron of Belfair, and two grandchildren, Ritch and Todd, both of Belfair. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Coldiron, in 1935, and by her second husband, Charles Patnude, in 1985.
