Genevieve Gilmore
Former Bremerton resident Genevieve Merle Schold Gilmore, 79, of Portland, Ore., died Oct. 7, 1999.
She was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Bremerton. Her maiden name was Schold. She graduated from Silverdale High School and earned a registered nurse's degree from the Virginia Mason Hospital School of Nursing in Seattle.
She served as a lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps during World War II.
She married
Jerry J. Gilmore in 1951. He preceded her in death in 1995.
She had lived in Portland since the early 1950s. She worked for Meridian Park Hospital for about 10 years, retiring in 1983.
Survivors include three daughters, Jan Cooper and Frances, both of Portland, and Suzanne Brigham of Napa, Calif.; two sisters, Margaret Peterson of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Elizabeth Quinn of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, John Schold of Silverdale; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Oct. 11 at St. James Episcopal Church in Tigard, Ore. Arrangements were under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Portland Rescue Mission or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Jimie Bullard
Jimie Bullard, 74, of Port Orchard died Oct. 13, 1999, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Quinton, Okla. He grew up in Oklahoma, graduating from Oklahoma State University.
He served in the Army and was employed as a sawmill worker. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include friends Dee Hudson and Jerry and Phyllis Hopkins, all of Port Orchard.
Services are private. Interment
will take place at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
"Whitey" Tondell
Clarence M. "Whitey" Tondell, 79, of Poulsbo died Oct. 10, 1999, in Seattle.
He was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Seattle to Clause and Bertha Tondell.
Mr. Tondell served in the Coast Guard during World War II.
He spent many years on the fishing grounds of both Alaska and Washington. He was involved with the transport of ships through the Panama Canal with his lifelong friend and shipmate Capt. Walt Berton.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Sons of Norway and the Elks Club.
He married
Olga Timmerman in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles and George, both of Everett; a daughter, Tina of Camano Island; six grandchildren, Shannon, Ian, Rebecca, April, Alexsandra and Kabe; seven stepchildren, Fred, Victor and Carl Engstrom, Rita Stimler, Jeanne Viguers, Alexander Timmerman and Jeffrey Timmerman; numerous great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Wagner.
A celebration of life is planned for Monday at Weller Funeral Home in Arlington. Plans for a celebration of life in Kitsap County are pending.
Harry Powell
Harry Charles Powell, 66, of Bremerton died Oct. 11, 1999, in Tucson, Ariz., of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 24, 1933, in Linneus, Mo., to William Bradley and Alice (Labar) Powell. He grew up in Kenosha, Wis., and in Moberly, Mo., graduating from Moberly High School in 1950, from Moberly Junior College in 1952 and from the University of Missouri in 1959.
Mr. Powell served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956 as a staff sergeant. He received a Good Conduct Medal and a special citation from the government of Italy for humanitarianism.
He married
Jo Frances Neal on Aug. 19, 1961, in Borger, Texas.
He was a nuclear engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 22 years, retiring in 1993. He had worked as a chemical engineer for Phillip Chemical Co. in Borger from 1959 to 1963, transferring to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1963, and working there until 1970.
He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Bremerton Health and Racquet Club and a past member of the Kitsap Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Russell of Paris, Ill.; two daughters, Tracy Hopkins of Port Orchard and Lisa Renoud of Copperas Cove, Texas; and three grandchildren, Alexander, Brendan and Daniel Hopkins, all of Port Orchard.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, with a funeral service following at 3 p.m. A reception is planned afterward.
Doris Toombs
Longtime Bremerton resident Doris Delia Toombs, 82, of Tacoma died Oct. 13, 1999, in Tacoma.
She was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Devil's Lake, N.D., to John and Maude (Olson) Meehan.
She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Donald of Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Diane Munson of Tacoma and Rita Walloch of Longview; two sisters, Dorothy Belcher and Dorcas Nyland, both of Tacoma; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, John, preceded her in death in 1982.
A rosary will be said at
10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Private burial will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Larry Oligario
Lawrence "Larry" Oligario, 39, of Bainbridge Island died Oct. 12, 1999, on Bainbridge Island.
He was born July 19, 1960, on Bainbridge Island to Alipio and Kay (Letsos) Oligario. He grew up on Bainbridge Island, attending Bainbridge High School.
He owned Native Pride Automotive.
Survivors include his mother, Kay George, now of Port Orchard; two brothers, John "Sonny" of Salt Lake City and David of Bellevue; nine sisters, Alice Dunlap, Joann and Naomi, all of Kent, Leilani Burley of Port Orchard, Barbara Chatman of Gulfport, Miss., Sharon Walker of San Diego, Karen Johnson and Bonnie Calloway, both of Seattle, and Leslie Woods of Tacoma.
A rosary will be said at 11 a.m. today at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment
will take place at Kane cemetery on Bainbridge Island.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home.
Sam Rainier
Former Bremerton resident Sam Rainier, 56, of Federal Way died Oct. 13, 1999, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He was born May 5, 1943, in Astoria, Ore. He graduated from West Bremerton High School in 1961.
Mr. Rainier served in the Army Special Forces from 1961 to 1964.
He worked as a police officer in Bremerton and in Renton from 1965 to 1970. From 1970 until his death, he was self-employed in the construction field.
Survivors include his wife, Toni of Federal Way; a daughter, Terry of Renton; two sons, Randy of Seattle and Robbie of Tennessee; a stepson, William of Federal Way; his mother and stepfather, Peggy and Dale Barker of Bremerton; his father, Samuel Rainier Sr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; a brother, Joe of Bremerton; five grandchildren, Jake Curry and Corianne, both of Renton, and Chloe, Michael and Robert, all of Tennessee.
Services are pending.
William Miller
Former Silverdale resident William Miller, 73, of Chimacum died Oct. 11, 1999, in Seattle at Harborview Medical Center after a long illness.
Mr. Miller served in the Army as a paratrooper during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Sonna; a son, Scott; three daughters, Gretchen, Sonna Jean and Pauline; a sister, Alice; and one grandchild.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday at Tuell-McKee Funeral Home Chapel of the Chimes, 2215 Sixth Ave. in Tacoma. Private inurnment will take place at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Lois Johnson
Lois E. Johnson, 91, of Shoreline died Oct. 12, 1999, in Shoreline. She had lived in Bremerton for many years.
She graduated from high school in San Diego and attended San Diego State University. At the age of 83, she attended Olympic College.
She married
Alben Johnson on April 1, 1928, at First Baptist Church of Bremerton. The couple had been married
62 years when Mr. Johnson preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Johnson was a longtime member of
First Baptist Church of Bremerton. She was financial secretary for the church, taught Sunday school, served as a lifetime deaconess and held many positions in women's activities.
Survivors include two sons, David of Edmonds and Art of Livingston, Texas; four grandchildren, Cheryl of Everett and Tracy, Teressa and Charles, all of Lake Ridge, Va.; and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Bremerton.
Selma Weberg
Selma E. Weberg, 86, of Poulsbo died Oct. 13, 1999, at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center on Bainbridge Island.
She was born Nov. 8, 1912, in Hoquiam to Otto and Blenda (Swanson) Thorne. As a small child, she moved with her family to what is now the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor and then to Port Gamble.
She married
Irvin R. Weberg in 1931 in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1967.
A homemaker, Mrs. Weberg had worked in Poulsbo as a sales clerk for Watland's Florists and at David's 5 and 10. She was a strong supporter of the Kitsap Humane Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Deanna Devitt of Poulsbo; four grandchildren, Dale Blanger of La Grande, Ore., David Blanger of Poulsbo, Diane Blanger of Spokane and Donna Dahlquist of Bainbridge Island; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday also at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Burial will take place in the family plot at Poulsbo City cemetery.
